Sully have anything left to bring back to Purple and plug in center? Let Elf shift to interior OL???

My guess is he'd be an upgrade for the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the season and then likely a liability after that.

Vikings do not appear to be sold on Kyle Sloter as their backup in 2019

https://thevikingage.com/2019/03/05/minnesota-vikings-not-sold-sloter-backup-2019/

Zimmer and Co are ready to waste what little cap room and a roster space on another scrub backup QB?

“We’re going to look for another quarterback. A lot of it is going to come down to the salary cap issues and who we can afford. We know who we kind of want and want back. We have to monitor the market.”

Have some fricken balls Zimm... Think he has the yips over losing QBs early in seasons, but damn... You have the man Kirk and preseason game finisher Kyle Sloter has to have shown enough by now... If who they want back is Siemian what a waste of cash and space...

"Who we kind of want back"
hmmm, Case Keenum just had a daydream flashback for a brief moment there!

It appears they have Sloter on the Diggs/Thielen development schedule.

This just means they do not have confidence in Siemian. Which is a good thing. I could easily see them grabbing a vet QB backup that is equal parts insurance policy for Cousins and competitive shoving match for Sloter (to hopefully overcome).

As much as I like some of our players, at some point, to continue to pay big dollars and play them as their skills decline is not smart. Spiels has put together a very talented roster, but has achieved zero Super Bowl appearances. To some degree, I blame coaching. But IMO, it's time to cut bait on some, and bring in hungrier players with upside. And you have to retain players with upside over guys who are not performing. A perfect example is letting Colby Gossett get poached off the Practice Squad while watching absolutely horrible players like Compton take up roster spots. A potential young Oline player you drafted is gone.

Money is tight, and to get some relief, you have to bite the bullet and jettison some. IMO, guys like Barr, Griffen, Sendejo, Remmers and Rudolph are expendable, especially considering the diminishing returns for what you're paying. New England seems to get it right all the time.

Cut The Fat, infuse with some youthful talent, and coach them up.

You can't have All Pros at every position.

The death of our offensive line coach seemed to affect our offense last season.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/6/2019 12:24:32 AM)

Sean Borman@SeanBoarMan
The #Vikings have until 3pm CST on March 13th (the new league year) to tender offers to:

* S Anthony Harris (RFA)
* OT Rashod Hill (RFA)
* TE Josiah Price (ERFA)
* OL Cedrick Lang (ERFA)

In the National Football League, a restricted free agent (RFA) is one with three or fewer accrued seasons (six or more regular season games with a team)[1] of service, who has received a "qualifying" offer (a salary level predetermined by the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players, known as a "tender") from his current club. He can negotiate with any club through a certain date. If the restricted free agent accepts an offer sheet from a new club, his old club has "right of first refusal," a five-day period in which it may match the offer and retain him, or choose not to match the offer, in which case it may receive one or more draft picks for the upcoming draft from the player's new club. If an offer sheet is not executed, the player's rights revert to his old club the day after negotiations must end.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/6/2019 1:00:56 AM)

.
.
In 2018, Spielman made 3 trades during the draft but had traded other picks prior to the draft, a 4th to the Eagles for Bradford, a 7th from the Broncos for Siemian and our 2018 5th, a 7th to the Seahawks for Tramine Brock

In 2017, he traded the 1st to the Eagles for Bradford, traded up for Cook and Elflein, traded 86 to KC for 104, 132, & 245, traded 104 to the 49ers for 109 & 219, traded 132 to the Eagles for 139 & 230, traded 139 to KC for 170 & 180, traded 199 & 230 to the Redskins for 201 & 220

If they go they go. Kind of sucks how short the window is between hoping a guy is the shit, seeing him hit his 2nd contract and knowing he's isn't one and done and forgettable...and then gone.

But to be honest...if they're not killing it they have to and should go. I really really like Griff and wanted Barr to be the shit but wasn't. Life moves on.

Remmers, Sendejo, and Rudolph aren't Pro Bowlers....Barr and Griffen were Pro Bowlers but IMO slightly over rated. I think we have roster in place to replace Griffen and Sendejo. Remmers I think we can find someone but Barr and Rudolph will be hard to replace at first.

Of all the practice squad linemen, they go after ours, and we have one of the worst O-lines in the league. Along with the team's refusal to try anything different from Compton-Elflein-Remmers, despite consistent evidence of poor play, suggests to me that our O-lineman evaluation has been subpar.

There is definitely something about that. Going back to OL coach Davidson who Zimmer famously didn't resign because 'he didn't want to' this team has tried many coaches, players, and lineups and the results have been consistently poor.

If I had to point a quick finger I'd point it at the guy that doesn't like to draft OL very early or very often.

I'd be happy to replace Rudolph with Jared Cook depending on price. Cook won't be cheap, but he'd be an upgrade. Otherwise, draft Hockenson or Fant in the first and OG in the 2nd. Or OG in the first and Irv Smith in the 2nd.

Many things I like about Zim but his inability to see or go with a change to a more talented youngster has held the team back.

When Arizona picked up Gossett week 9 their season was already a dumpster fire, didn't much matter who they put on their roster competition wise. And we have no idea whether or not Gossett would have been an upgrade to the players we fielded.
