ORIGINAL: David Levine Ben Goessling@GoesslingStrib Adam Thielen ihas agreed to a four-year extension from the Vikings. $64 million, and could be worth up to $73 million. Contracts always contain a lot of fluff....like DL has posted...35 of the 73 million guaranteed. yes, we need to see the specifics - but on the surface, i think that it's too big of a deal...does the $35m guaranteed include this season? - i hope so...the guys 30 years old.... No it doesn't. He has 2 more years on current ext. He will turn 29 Aug 22 So he will be 31 when his new deal kicks in. so we're guaranteeing $35m after he's 31 years old?...does anyone think this is a smart deal?.... This isn't Logan's Run. 33-34 (the END of his contract) is not an age where a WR like Thielen will show much (if any) effect from aging. Especially since he took about as many hits as I did his first 2 seasons. Edelman turns 33 next month. Julio Jones is 30. Antonio Brown will be 31 when the season starts. Larry Fitzgerald will be 36 when the season starts. Cris Carter had six 1000 yards seasons after the age of 30. Great post David! I don't know if he's even reached his ceiling yet. Plenty of players don't make it that long too. A lot has to do with injuries. Sure, but Shades is the type of player that ages well. He's a great route runner, very good hands, excels at catching contested balls, is not overly reliant on speed and athleticism. Injuries? Then don't sign any player of any age to a big contract if you're afraid of injuries. Shades has also never missed a game in his career.
