Looking at the highlights, it is Cousins to blame.

He looks to be a split second BEHIND the defense much of the time, instead of a split second ahead of them. He had a great OL in Washington, and that was still true of his play at crucial times.

Just watched some of the crucial plays(DVR).

Thielen wide open in EZ as Cousins forces it to double covered Rudy(and the OLine held up for once and he had plenty of time and rushed it).

Cousins double clutches to wide open Thielen and lets CB get back into play right before blocked FG.

Right on, let's throw to a guy who's covered 90% of time vs a guy who is open 90% of the time in the same area.

He just locked onto him(Rudy) from the snap. "I don't like that!!!!"

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:39:54 AM)

David, I stand corrected, Washington had a GOOD OL 2015 and 2016, not great. GREAT should be reserved for early 90s Cowboy OL, late 90s Vikings OL.

But most SB winners the last 20 were just good OLs, not great, it was usually great QB play that put those teams over the top.

Rob Viking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:42:17 AM)

Another blown call was the obvious grounding by Wilson in the EZ which would have been a safety. He threw it 15 yards past the receiver and way OOB, I am still not sure I would accept the penalty but it would have been our first points of the game. Wilson never gets called for grounding, there was at least one more, the Kendricks pick would have been another. Wilson grounds the ball 3x a game and never gets called.

But they were terrible in 2017 mainly due to injuries and Kirk still made plays.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:45:39 AM)

Looking at Redskins 2016 clips, it appears Kirk is just setting us up.

The Vikings are either going to win the next 7 games, or go 9-7 in 2019 season, and win the SB that season.

Indeed. He's slow as hell on the uptake. He throws to Rudy for a first, and Rudy predictably drops dead immediately where he catches it about a yard and a half short of the first down. Diggs was wide open in the flat, and easily seen by Cousins, but Cousins opts for Rudy. Instant first if he had just thrown it to Diggs. The pass to Cook in the backfield. Cousins was grossly late on that. If he pops it out there like any veteran should, we get a nice pickup. None of those instances were on the offensive line. When Thielen told Cousins he missed him wide open in the end zone, Cousins just walked away. Right now, I feel like we're trying to develop Andy Dalton, instead of a poised veteran we were supposed to have picked up.

We needed Kirk to play like he did at NO and at Seattle for Washington last season.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:49:37 AM)

The Vikings could use a WR like Jamison Crowder at #3.

It didn't Cousins to have Reed and Davis at TE.

Thompson was good at blitz pickup and screens, and McVay must have been decent at calling plays.

But it still didn't make Cousins quick in the playoffs, that is why he is 0-1 in playoff games.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:52:55 AM)

Cousins got used to at times making the easy throw to Jordan Ried or Vernon Davis on 3rd down, and they would pick up the 1st down, whereas Rudy isn't as likely to do that for you.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 12:56:55 AM)

We needed Kirk to play like he did at NO and at Seattle for Washington last season.

Well that is simple. Kirk just needs to pretend the he will be a FA after the season, and that someone is going to make him one of the highest paid QBs in the league [8D]

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 1:00:54 AM)

Well outside of a trade Cousins isn't going anywhere but dang he's playing poor.

Should have been gone two years ago: Mike Priefer, Kyle Rudolph, and Laquon Treadwell.

Should be gone by next season: Compton, Elflein, Remmers

Pick one and toss the other: Zimmer, Flip

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP DRAFTING CBs in rounds one and two when our Oline can't block the Golden Girls.

Dana Turner -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 1:16:53 AM)

When someone says that we held Wilson to only 72 yards passing, just tell them that we gave up over 200 yards rushing, they didn't need to throw it. We gave up that much yardage to a team we knew was going to run the ball, with our a "top tier" defense, you don't come in to Seattle, not prepared to stop the run. They were 60 yards over their average per game figure. Ouch!

Too many issues with this team right now. I think I am pissed because I really had such high hopes and this team has played so poorly all fn year, that I'm really just angry for myself in believing in these guys. I hate to say my gut feeling was right about Zimmer, I mean, I wanted to believe, but really, he hasn't shown anything that would make you think he is going to be a good head coach, nothing in four years, that's long enough! UGH, so painful being a Viking fan.

Blanche and Rose would need to be doubled for sure

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 4:42:31 AM)

As much as I would like to see Zimm and Speilman gone I think they probably get one more year to make it work.

The offense is getting worse each week.

Next year they turn it around or I think they are looking at a total rebuild.

At that point the defense will be over paid and the offense still crappy.

Next season Zimm and Speilman have their jobs on the line.

Minnesota pro sports is a tough one for fans.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 6:31:49 AM)

Let's get the last 3

- snipe the Cowboys in the playoffs

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 6:37:31 AM)

Mike Pereira @MikePereira

Lots of talk about the Wagner block. The wording in the rule book is NEW this year and is clear. The new wording states, "May not place a hand or hands on a teammate or opponent in an attempt to jump through a gap to block an opponent's kick or apparent kick." Case closed. Foul.

Would of like to have seen how this would of played out if it was called right

... and no one will ever know no matter how pissed off and negative you want to be about it

-- speaking of negative; freekin' game brought out the best in me I know that

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 6:39:09 AM)

JUstin Gaard @jgkfan

If you guys can't understand how a Head Coach consistently trashing and second guessing the OC is counter-productive I can't help you.

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 6:39:17 AM)

There are a few problems that I see on our team, but the absolutely most glaring is the oline. The issue is that I think Spiels is more concerned with making splashy trades on draft day than he is at building up the backbone of the offense. There is no excuse for that.

The refs appear to have taken a step back since instant replay was instituted. They are not accountable for their decisions anymore.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/11/2018 6:51:29 AM)

- the uncatchable ball (we would of got it back next play)
- the illegal block (new set of downs)

* maybe it doesn't feel like we wouldn't of done anything with those situations but it'd of been nice to see how it would of unfolded anyway

sigh

For a guy like me the excuse is I thought we had enough fire power to scratch our way through with less on the OL. Paid professionals should see things a little different.

An example of Zim trashing Flip would be...?

Agree 100%. The Vikings are one year removed from playing in the NFCCC. No way Zim and RS get canned after this year, regardless of the teams collapse. If they don't show marked improvement and make a deep playoff run next year, they need to be shown the door. Spielman in particular needs to be held accountable. Heck, if he doesn't sign 2 FA guards and draft 2 more offensive lineman with high draft picks next year, I'd fire him before the season started.
