I can't imagine there are many of their athletes who make it to the next level. It has to be a boost to their recruitment and if one of their own goes on to be a Roger Staubach or something close that would be a real feather in their cap.

Austin Cuttings is simply a cut above about 95% of long snappers per reports I have heard and film I have watched. His snaps are fast and precise. He even gets the laces to the holder so he doesn't need to spin the ball. Then his coverage on Punts is top notch as well. I would be very surprised if he isn't the long snapper for the Vikings this season.

According to you spectacular 7th rounder Cuttings should just turn his rear around, snap and cover.

It sounds a little inappropriate ... exactly which film have you been watching?

[&:] I knew someone would go there. I watched the film and he looked impressive. The rest I got from reading a scouting report, but it was a long time ago so I couldn't tell you where I read it. The part about the snaps being so perfect the holder didn't even have to turn the ball for laces out was part of what I read. Sounds impossible I know.

I watched a video posted on here about Cuttings, had a bunch of his snaps for kicks...punts and PATs/FGs. I had read the report of him getting the laces right and was dubious, because as a former long snapper, I didn’t think it was possible.

But I was impressed. The holder never once rotated the ball. I saw several where the laces were perfect, some where I couldn’t see to tell and one where the laces were wrong.

I’d post the video but the search feature on this site isn’t working for me and I’m sitting in the CAC office at the Pentagon waiting to get my CAC access for this year. So I don’t have time for an exhaustive search. I’ll check youtube and get back to you with a link if I can find one.

The first half is punt snaps. It’s worth watching to see perfect snaps followed by often times leading the crew of tacklers getting downfield to the returner. I’m sure they block better in the pros but i’m trying to remember ever seeing the first tackler coming from the center of the coverage unit rather than an outside gunner.

I'm so up on the Vikes watching our 7th round long snapper extra point highlights got me giddy. I doubt there are 2 guys doing it better in the NFL right now. It's quick and tight and no the holder doesn't have to spin the ball.

I missed much of his broadcast, but I did hear him predict 15 TD's for Diggs who he sees benefiting the most from the new play action offense. (If he stays healthy, which he has not in the past.)

He said that the Dillon Mitchell is the most intriguing question going into training camp. He sees him as raw, but talented and fast. He also thinks that Brandon Zylstra and Jordan Taylor may be competing for one roster position. It may depend on how they do with special teams. He likes Olabisi Johnson, too. He and Mitchell are competing for one roster spot and he thinks that Johnson has the early lead, but that Mitchell has an edge in talent.

I missed that. I was at work so I can only listen when I have a break, but I'm sure it will be podcast. (not yet, though)

I'm leaning really hard towards giving the holder more credit in terms of not having to spin the laces forward. How can the LS get credit for what the ball does AFTER it hits the holders hands?

The LS gets it there quick and tight. That's good. The other stuff is nonsense. You really think a LS can a deliver the ball to the holder the exact same way every time, laces up?
We should probably think about moving him to QB.

The holder gets a consistent, accurate, quick snap. He's reading the rotation and seeing the big fat laces as the snap approaches, catching it clean and putting it down.

Put it this way, you think a LS is so good that he could snap a football 20+ feet and not only hit the target, but put the laces exactly where he wants to?

Bullshit.

I bet the LS starts with the laces where he wants and sends the ball perfectly. It's his gift.

Todd we have all said it seems fake, but watching and reading about it unless people are lying it's true. Doesn't seem possible, but according to many it's true.

Maybe he has figured out the "knuckle ball" snap. I don't see the why it's so hard to believe that someone may have advanced the science of the long snap. Many long snappers in the NFL are not that experienced at long snapping the ball, it's a skill they have added to earn themselves a spot on an NFL roster, or maybe help them cement a backup spot. Someone who has invested significantly more perfecting the skill, with the specific goal of getting the ball to the holder with the laces in the right spot, I don't see why it is impossible that guy would be better at it than others.

The pro ball is a bit slimmer than the college ball. It should be easier to snap, but it will take new adjustments.

Not sure how much "free" time students at the Air Force Academy have on a daily basis. I'm guessing it's different from Marine Corps boot camp. Are you saying he wouldn't be able to cut out, say, 2 hours a day? Outside of regular football practice? Seems to me if he wanted to, he would have enough "time" available to him to put in the extra work.

Didn't see it but read Waynes slipped and just shut it down knowing he had no margin for error.
