Didn't Browning have a shoulder injury in college that he's been recovering from?

Thought he was considered a good prospect early in his college career but has yet to regain his throwing velocity post injury

Browning was considered one of the best HS to college prospects ever. During his career he became the winningest QB in Pac12 history and won PotY and I believe has single season and career passing records. He did Hurt his shoulder in his Junior year I believe and wasn't the same QB that won PotY in his sophomore season. If he does fully recover the Vikings may really have something.

Unless you’ve seen him play.

Dink
Dunk
Dank

It was less Dink, Dunk, Dank before the injury. Even with the injury he was quite successful. If he never recovers the strength he probably doesn't work out. If he does we may really have something.

It feels like an embarrassment of riches at the DE spot

IDK about that. With Bowars maybe.. but he is out for the year but it's good to hear that Odenigbo is stepping up.

A lot will depend on Grif and his health. If he or Hunter go down it gets thin. I think Adu goes to the PS.

We still have Weatherly, Griffin, and Hunter. Weatherly might overtake Griffin this year.

i have a sense that griffen will be back this season - i see 10+ sacks...i'm starting to wonder what players like weatherly, harris, kearse, alexander and even waynes are looking for as far as an extension....

we're $23m over the cap already in 2020...cutting griffen, reiff and joseph saves us $33m...is harrison smith over this hill in middle-deep coverage? - he looks late most of the time....

signing barr and rudoph really threw this team for a loop in terms of cap space....

You always hear glowing reports out of camp, but I have a good feeling about Griffen as well. Maybe not elite again, but I can easily see very good again.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2019 3:13:43 PM)

I only listened for a part of the show, but I caught these other notable comments about players from Paul Allen.

Dakota Dozier showed some good things in practice and his opinion based on how the offensive line coach wanted him to come here is that he will make the roster. Not only that, but he believes he will start ahead of Drew Samia if Josh Kline gets hurt or doesn't cut the mustard. That surprised the heck out of me.

He really likes Oli Udoh a lot and sees him improving on "every play". He believes the team will not risk sending him to the practice squad and so he will make the 53 man roster.

He doesn't believe Collins will make the roster, but he still might have a chance to shine. (He didn't know his injury situation clearly.)

He likes Reiff, but thinks he would thrive more at RT. He also absolutely loves O'Neil.

I have no clue as to which receivers will make the 53 roster, but Paul Allen said that Dillon Mitchell was one of the three players that stood out to him in the night practice.

Then there's this. If a player can show versatility that should improve his chances.

Mike Zimmer said Bisi Johnson has been learning multiple WR spots

I still believe Mitchell can be a very good NFL WR. I know he has below average hands, but his ability to separate with good speed and a lot of wiggle I thought would be enough. However, he may have things about his game that I couldn't see on tape that will trip him up.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2019 3:15:48 PM)

Mack Alexander had three great plays in the DB/WR drills, including a pass breakup against Bisi Johnson. Holton Hill also swatted away two passes. #Vikings Corner on Twitter

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2019 3:20:48 PM)

I can't see him making the 53, but you never know.

I had Alexander Hollins at the very end of the WR depth chart but he's had a couple nice practices in a row. Just got open on a crosser and Browning found him in stride. (Eric Thompson on Twitter)

Devante Downs tips a pass coming off of a blitz on Sean Mannion, catches the tipped pass, and runs it in for a pick six (Arif Hasan on Twitter)

By the way, Arif doesn't like me now because I suggested that he stick to football instead of dabbling into politics. That's all I'll say. [;)]

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2019 3:27:10 PM)

We have an Irv Smith sighting!

Barr lining up on the left edge the last couple plays. Irv Smith with a nice block on Kendricks to open up a running lane. (Eric Thompson on Twitter)

Zimmer on developing CB Mackensie Alexander:
“If you asked me who’s turned the corner as far as coaching and believing in the system and all that - I think Mackensie would be the No. 1 guy... I see him coaching the young guys. It is way different and I’m proud of him.”

“We’re gonna try and hit him just like every other QB.”
Mike Zimmer on facing former #Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater this Friday at New Orleans.

• David Morgan (6-4, 265; 26)
• Tyler Conklin (6-3, 254; 23)
• Cole Hikutini (6-4, 240; 25)

Brandon Dillon? I'm hearing good things about him.

From Daniel House:

In the same drill, the second-team offense advanced the ball past the 50-yard-line and Bailey was again called upon to attempt a field goal. This time, he drilled the attempt from 53 yards out. Bailey finished the afternoon 6-for-8 with made tries from 35, 41, 42, 45, 47 and 53 yards. Both of his misses came from the right hash (38 and 52 yards), which has been a theme. This training camp, all but one of Bailey’s misses have occurred when he is lined up on the right hash.

I find this interesting, and should be correctable? Like a bowler missing his spot, or shooting a gun (tight bunching but off the target).

I was pretty optimistic when they got Bailey... but it has been multiple years now with shaky FG %... would love to see the kicking game resolved and a strength rather than a weakness.

Makes a very nice adjustment to the slightly underthrown ball.

That's okay. He was on here for a cup of coffee a few years ago, and decided that he didn't like any of us. So he left.

Absolutely. The offense just has to make sure every 3rd down play in FG range goes to the left.

I bet it's correctable. If you have a tight grouping but are not hitting the center of the target, you adjust the sights. Kickers probably have to adjust their foot positioning or something simple like that. I hope we get the kicking game as to automatic as we can get it. It's been a problem for too long.

That's what I was thinking and why I used those examples (not that I'm an expert on either).

In an early post, Daniel made it sound like the misses were all close and just to the right. Which gives me hope for Bailey yet.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2019 11:32:27 PM)

Here's Daniel House's summary of the practice. Mack Alexander should be highly motivated being this is a contract year. So should Waynes, but I am not hearing the same glowing reports.
