Question: Do you expect to see more runs?

Matt Birk: ... maybe a couple more but you are who you are. This team is at it's best when you throw to set up the run.

Zim's coaching record with running (I'm sure many of you have seen it but here it is anyway):

20+ runs a game, record is 45-14
-20 runs a game, 0-16-1

The old "why run and try to win 13-10 in this new age NFL?" will come up.

When actually if we run well we can play action and get medium to deep shots with passing game.

Vikes 41 Dolphins 17

Wow! Don't make foolish forecasts like this just to attempt to prove you're a bigger Vikings fan than another. This is as close to insane as you possibly be.

Vikings 23 Dolphins 20

And this is a stretch predicting a Vikings victory.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Foolish indeed.

Can we stay the course and end up in Dallas please?

We would have to get some help from Seattle.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 3:17:30 PM)

Nicely done today by Stefanski. Well scripted initial drive. Against a bad defense but I'll take it.

Cousins still with some shakey "deer in the headlight" moments. He has been showing panic that we hadn't seen earlier in the year.

Not a well executed screen on the pick 6 and they shouldn't run that play so often. Great play by the Miami cb whom read the play.

Excellent defensive performance despite the 75 yard run to open the 2nd half.

9 sacks. Today is how I envisioned Zimmer using Barr.

Sherels just keeps on ticking. Good ST's play all around today. Perfect day from bailey.

Just thinking about that this morning. If we have to play Chi to close season and then travel to Chi for WC game is not ideal.

Not sure of the odds but their sure to be low regarding beating the same team in back to back weeks.

Granted, Tannehill just kind of goes into fetal position but Barr had a burst around the edge that we haven't seen in awhile.

He certainly goes down easy similar to Cousins

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 3:28:44 PM)

Would like to see Theilen get more involved. Unsure why Cousins isn't targeting him the last several games.

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 3:29:44 PM)

Here’s how these three games can potentially affect Minnesota’s playoff chances:

JAX win, LAR win, NO win - 83% chance of playoffs with a MIN win, 42% with a loss
WAS win, LAR win, NO win - 67% chance with a win, 22% with a loss
JAX win, LAR win, CAR win - 66% chance with a win, 29% with a loss
JAX win, PHI win, NO win - 66% chance with a win, 26% with a loss
WAS win, LAR win, CAR win - 61% chance with a win, 22% with a loss
JAX win, PHI win, CAR win - 56% chance with a win, 18% with a loss
WAS win, PHI win, NO win - 54% chance with a win, 17% with a loss
WAS win, PHI win, CAR win - 49% chance with a win, 19% with a loss

Skins won today so...

odin -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 3:53:55 PM)

Miami's 33 passing play calls netted 37 yards, 1.12 ypp!

Their 20 rushes gained 156 yds., 7.8 ave.
------------------
vs. Sea.:
22 passing play calls for 60 yds

42 rushes for 214 yds.
------------------

Last two weeks defensive totals: 53 passing play calls netted 97 yds. for our opponents, a 1.83 yd per pass ave.!I wonder how often that has been beaten in the 2000s?

Unfortunately we also gave up 62 rushes for 370 yds., 5.97 yds. per carry ave.

Overall, 115 plays for 467 yds. 4.06 yds per play, that should be good enough to win most games (only three teams in the NFL are averaging less than five yards per offensive play).

Don't look now but SF is winning 14-6 over Seattle. If that holds, KC beats Seattle, and we win out, then we would go to Dallas instead of Chicago.

It doesn't matter. We are winning no matter whom we play.

The Happy Norseman -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 4:13:50 PM)

Nice game plan by Stefanski. The Vikings offense looked much more like last years. It actually looked pretty cohesive for the first time in a month.

I give credit to Stef for staying the course. Several gawd awful series, but when it mattered most, called some good plays.

It helps when your D is dominating.

And the D you are playing is ranked 30th.

Gonna be an interesting two weeks.

What do they say about a broken clock?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 4:30:05 PM)

When they scored 17 straight, it looked like it was going to be one of those close games maybe going down to a crazy play or botched FG. While fretting, I wasn't overly worried due to the way we went up on them 21-0. The DL (and/or their OL) definitely tilted the game after 21-17.

Aldrick Robinson has been a nice get. Simple route, perfect 40 yard pass.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 4:33:06 PM)

OK, so the Miami D is ranked low. Our OL got what is a normal push for a good OL. That allowed us to see how Cook operates behind a decent OL.

In short, when you factor in the Miami D, we saw Cook run for 136 simulated yards.

ambear -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 4:35:35 PM)

Good all around win today, thought for a while that we might do the usual, but lo and behold, we played like, well, a team and not a collection of highly paid individuals. It's time to play up to potential. Today was the first step. Just hope it's not too late.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/16/2018 4:47:53 PM)

Arif Hasan@ArifHasanNFL
According to the game notes they hand out after every game, Marcus Sherels set "a team record for highest punt return average versus Miami in a single game, min. 3 returns"

Arif Hasan@ArifHasanNFL
Mackensie Alexander has tied a team record for most sacks by a DB in a season, with four (Robert Griffith, 1999). Zimmer said some of his sacks have come from the fact that opposing teams have concentrated on the blitz potential of Harrison Smith, who is often on the other side.

Ben Goessling@GoesslingStrib
Mike Zimmer said Kevin Stefanski "knew what I wanted" on offense this week. He mentioned a couple times where Stefanski told him, "I'm going to run the ball here."

@christomasson
Kirk Cousins said on the pick six the guy was not blocked.

Ben Goessling
@GoesslingStrib
Zimmer said Vikings' offensive players were excited this week about "the possibility of playing football the way we did today." Said the game plan was cut back a bit today, but faster tempo also helped. "All offenses have a lot of plays; you just can't call them all."
