Anyone know the length of Zimmers contract ext given in 2016?

If it is up after 2019 he would be on a one year lame duck contract next season. This is never a good thing to get players to buy in.

Information on all that isn't easy to nail down. It was a 2 year ext given after his 3rd year. He just finished year 5...what was his initial contract - 5 years? If it was 5 he would be good through 2020 then. If it was 4 then next year would be his last under contract.

I read this AM that both he and RS have 1 more year only.

Hmm, if true that is not ideal.

Maybe, what do I know...maybe it forces them to get out of their comfort zone and lock some shit down.

Sounds like the perfect time to turn the page on both

Bingo!

Punter was MVP yesterday...
Zimmer and Xavier to Bengals for first and second rounds picks.

I thought they were tough last year and played with an edge, especially on D.

I didn’t seem like that this year. They seemed fat and happy.

Once again, too many players got paid. The Vikings are becoming the T-Wolves of the NFL.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:31:24 AM)

Barr gone...Rudolf....Treadwell...senejo...Compton...all gone
Slick Rick too...

Who is GM and then coach?

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:32:18 AM)

Add Griffin as well

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:41:11 AM)

I thought we were years and years from seeing Griffen move on but I could see it being the end now.

Barr I see going to the Raiders.

The dead weight...let's just hope they are not blind and stupid and get rid of who they need to. The Treadwells, and Comptoms, Priefers of the world.

Rudy? I could see the shine on the man he is keeping him in the mix.

These things all take a back seat to the major moves...and we have a history of making them...but major moves to get this OL worked out.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:43:32 AM)

Sad but I just had a thought that this is my comfort zone. Them losing and ultimately disappointing. If anything winning and expectations make me manic and unable to assess things properly.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:47:11 AM)

Need to purge this roster of some of these high priced players in favor of building the Oline.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:49:13 AM)

With those picks...Bengals 2 and Vikings 2
2 great OL...Fast athletic TE..and Fast WR.
Tough to beat...

Should be no surprise to anyone that Kirk was very good with a clean pocket and very bad under pressure. That tape was there in abundance. Pure negligence towards the OL put your $84M investment in position to fail. Needed that 4th CB though.

The O-Line was a joke all season, especially Compton and Remmers. Those guys can't hold their own at all. O'Neill is too light right now, but he might be a pretty good player as he gets older and more experience. Isiadora had as much to being to the table as Compton, so he should be in there.

Kyle Rudolph and his "run backward" (which is about as fast as he runs forward anyway at this point) play can go away. I can't see him being on the team next year, unless he makes a recovery that can be expected after ankle surgery. I think Murray looked the same in 2017 after his ankle surgery. No speed at all.

I'm sure I'm the only one who thinks this offense looked better with Murray than Cook. Murray seems to get plenty of yards, maybe because they don't key on him or something, I don't know. It just looked like when Cook came back the offense looked a lot less effective. Cook seems to want to get the huge play on every snap and leaves too much meat on the bone for my taste. Just get the 5 yards and be happy with it.

Our CB, did they have a pick all season? Rhodes is good, but Waynes is not worth a reinvestment. He makes no plays at all.

I know that none of this stuff is "hot take" other than maybe my feelings on Cook, but I had to say it.

Both Murray and Cook are solid enough going forward (if we keep Murray). I agree that Cook is over-rated by some in here but given the OL, its hard to know for sure. I don't agree with the big play thing – whether Cook hits it or not, just the threat puts pressure and gets attention from a defense which is different than when Murray is in there. The injury concern though drops him in my estimation. I like Murray a lot ... he has a little more big play ability than the typical pounder, not as explosive as Cook obviously, but his temperament is perfect in a complementary role.

If our offseason 'plan' is to replace Compton with Easton AND expect healthy improvement from Elflein / Reiff AND expect sophomore improvement from O'Neill AND improvement from Remmers in his second year at RG AND draft/use FA to shore up your depth ... I will puke.

That is not a plan, that is not being able to adequately address your biggest weakness because you have allocated all your resources elsewhere. And how good can you be if you can't significantly improve your biggest, most obvious, most exploitable weakness?

We have a QB who is very good with decent (doesn't even have to be great) protection, but unfortunately, he is not nifty or gritty or heady enough to move around and make plays on his own.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:52:52 AM)

Still have Hill...Waynes... Alexander...Rookie...
Not too shabby

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 10:59:53 AM)

Why invest 84ml in a qb and not protect him. Esp when he needs a clean pocket to be good. Round hole square peg

Spielman is clueless

sigh

- I'm spent

Re: Bengals

...And here’s where things could get very, very interesting. What if Brown decides to make a play for someone who used to be on the coaching staff? Someone who owns a large ranch in nearby Kentucky? Someone who may want to end his career without the never-ending stress and strain of a close-but-not-close-enough team that annually knocks on the door but can’t kick it in?

Yes, some think that the Mike Brown may try to hire Mike Zimmer (if Marvin goes), and some think Zimmer possibly would be interested. Much would depend on whether the Vikings would be willing to let Zimmer leave, and on whether the Vikings would want significant compensation for doing so.

Yeah, that Cincinnati franchise is a real upgrade over the Vikings.

The Bears have one of the best o-lines in football and two great corners. The two most important units on the field.

Bears oline is good but not the best in football

Their Dline is absolutely terrific

CB's are marginal at best

They now have Long back from injury. IMO, when healthy, he's the best guard in pro football. That was a huge addition to get in week 17. They went from good to great.

Their oline is very good

But their CB's are not very good. Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller?

Fuller is OK. Amukamara is a journeyman. The front 7 makes these guys look great. You only have to cover for 3-4 seconds and you always have deep safety help.

Not sure why a team hires just one guy to be a general manager? I'm sure a collection of about five us in here could do a better job, collectively. This guy Spielman has never impressed me.

Consistently. But yes, for the most part I agree.

I've been saying about 5-7 things for a decade+.

1) Draft corners
2) Build the offensive line every year
3) Quit drafting diva positions when you have holes up front
4) Draft a legit quarterback
5) Don't reach in free agency
6) Get a young, offensive-minded coach
7) Get a legit tight end that can run after the catch (it's 2018, not 1820)

It doesn't seem that hard, folks. Yet, our guy manages to fu$k it up every year.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2018 11:33:01 AM)

If we had a legit tight end we would have won yesterday.

IMO, the Wilfs are really bad owners. They are real estate guys, and not good at subbing out the decision-making for a pro football team.

Fuller is a very good corner IMO.

Prince is good as well, he's flourished in Chicago. That DLine as you say makes evrything easy and while he didn't play yesterday Eddie Jackson is an All-Pro caliber safety.

#Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf sat in on the final team meeting today, as they do every season, and both reiterated their belief in coach Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman, sources tell me and @RapSheet. "There won't be changes here," one source said.
