Gopher women have it going on in almost every sport
Take notes, men.
Learn from successful people.

Having one of the top teams in the nation doesn't mean squat if you play in the Big Ten. They were #1 in the nation a couple of years ago, but went unseeded in the tournament and had to travel to someone else's regional, where hometown umpiring always assures the host team advances.

I recall we had one of our top players from last years team transfer to some softball powerhouse school.

The Catcher transferred to Florida

Wanted to play for a real powerhouse.

So they have a freshman from Rapid City who doesn't have a great average but 7 dingers.

And Kid from Hopkins who should be freshman of the year in conference, Den Hartog.

But Sweens is right. Fiser can kick ass all she wants, won't mean much vs rated teams.

Earlier in the year, they couldn't beat many of the top teams, unfortunately, when they played in the warmer climates.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/9/2019 4:45:53 PM)

Fister is a junior so that helps for next year

they have 6 sophs and 5 freshmen on the roster, so pretty young, overall.

Especially when she will have a strike zone the size of a postage stamp when they play the host team.

That is true. The host team gets some major home cooking by the umps. Host team wins the regional or whatever it is close to 100% of the time.

7 seed
play AT HOME

We got the 7th seed nationally? How did we do that. I think last year we were 2nd in the polls and couldn't manage that.

Gophers Softball in the Regional final...won its first two games 3-0 against NDSU and 2-1 against Georgia....A little rain has delayed the start until 9pm (supposed to be at 4pm)

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/20/2019 7:30:59 AM)

Weather pushing things back
Exciting walk-off for the gals the other night.

What is a DII team like NDSU doing in the College World Series?

Overachieving.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/20/2019 2:36:30 PM)

Gopher gals smoke Georgia 8-1 today

I did NOT see that coming!

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/20/2019 2:52:10 PM)

Nope, I thought there was a chance that Georgia might force them to play 2. What seems to be the trend is that Fiser stays dominant in rematches while the Gopher batters figure out the opponent's pitcher in a big way.

Impressive
Great to see

Now the Gophers (#7) host LSU (#10) for a best of 3 super regional series. Win this one and it's on to the college WS.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/20/2019 3:30:45 PM)

Freshman Natalie DenHartog hit a three-run home run in the first inning Monday, and Minnesota tacked on four more in the third and another in the seventh. It added up to an 8-1 win over Georgia and the Gophers' second trip to the super regionals.
Minnesota will host LSU in a best-of-three series in the super regionals. The Gophers have never before made it to the Women's College World Series.
Monday's regional final against Georgia was pushed back a day due to stormy weather in Minneapolis

NDSU has to know its place.
