That time of the year again. I have them penciled in at 9-7.

We still have Zimmer and Spielman and should know what a Zimmer/Spielman team will generally do at this stage.

And we have Cousins, who I was initially fine with, but I've kind of come around and see the detractor's point of view on him now. So if we have a roughly .600 coach and a roughly .600 GM with one fluke playoff win and a QB who can't beat winning teams, it doesn't pay to have too lofty of expectations. They will have their work cut out for them.

Otherwise, division-wise, I am curious to see if the Bears prove themselves or regress and how Rodgers works with a new coach. I still kind of think he is getting old, and a new coach maybe won't move the needle much. We will see...

So much depends on injuries. If our key guys stay healthy and other teams have key injuries we could be 12-4 or better. If injuries hit us hard we could be 6-10 or worse. Most likely scenario is somewhere between 9 and 11 wins. I'll split the difference and preditct 10-6.

Cousins, Diggs and Thielen need to stay healthy. Really thin there.

I have us at 12-4 because we still have Zimmer, Spielman, and Cousins. Maybe 11-5 because - I expect to come out of the gate a little slow while the new offense coalesces. Once established, I can see the skill players on this team humiliating defenses. The defense will be only average for us (ie, top 5 to 10 instead of top 5) ... just dont see Rhodes burying top WRs any more... but we’ll still be pretty stout.

Special teams and Cook’s health are my initial worries.

If my defense was great, my offense would be wide open, aggressive, scary.

Now that they've signed Doctson, I would love if they tried to sign Aldrick Robinson. Jettison Beebe and J.Johnson/Abdullah/Ham.

They would then have a WR lineup of Thielen, Diggs, Doctson, Robinson and Bisi.

I'd be comfortable with that tandem.

I asked Warren Ludford who is a really good writer what he thought of Doctson and I got this response.

Has talent, but wasn’t a very efficient receiver w Redskins. Only a 61 passer rating when targeted, 58% catch rate when targeted. Maybe he can improve w new scheme, team, role

He seemed to have decent chemistry with Cousins.
But we have been down this road so many times.
Chris Carter ruined us.

It is really weird but I think Beebe is more of the quick, possession guy and Johnson/Doctson are the deep threats (bigger, and pretty fast). We don't need Aldrick....develop the rest.

Hope to be proven wrong, and in spite of reports that he's "uncoverable" in practice, but I've seen next to nothing from Beebe overall, and absolutely nothing but negatives in preseason. I'd take Aldrick over him for today; the only question is if Beebe can be developed.

LOVE the swap-out of Treadwell for Doctson. Rookie 7th round pick and Chad Beebe as a WR 3/4 combo is dicey.

Might be worth the shot, might not. It does kind of depend on who they let go to add Doctson to the roster.

The biggest problem we have with Diggs and Thielen is their amount of snaps....each are over 90% and as we know with Diggs---after about 6 games of playing so many snaps he starts having hammy issues.

We know that Kubiak likes 2 TE sets and there may not be a lot of 3 WR sets but it will be nice to swap in these backups to give our 2 stud wr a little more in-game rest.

If reports that Jay Gruden wanted to keep Josh Doctson and cut Adrian Peterson are correct, that is unsettling. He's going into a 'make-or-break' season and he's not getting to form his own roster or call his own shots? #Redskins

And that is why no coach will succeed there as long as Daniel Snyder is the owner.

I wonder if Doctson is a good blocker like Treadwell was. It was the one thing he did well.

One issue is that he's not really going to contribute on special teams. Usually the bottom of the roster should help out that way.

Shocking to me and I'm not happy.

I reckon that the Vikings are pleased with the progress of Samia and Dozier did play well towards the end of the preseason. He became more valuable because he plays two positions. Jones was one of the backups at center. I really don't like this. We don't have a player on the practice squad who plays the position, but I predict that we will soon from another team.

#Vikings release C Brett Jones as the corresponding move to sign WR Josh Doctson. Jones was their highest-graded offensive player, per PFF, this preseason.

Let me reword that ... the team must be more comfortable with Elf covering Bradbury and Dozier covering LG than Jones backing up Bradbury.

I don’t like it either.
