I made the mistake of turning on ESPN. They're seriously trying to make the game an officiating issue? Hahahahahaha! I love it! Expect another rule change.

If you want to say it was illegal contact and then OPI, I could listen to that. Offsetting at worst.

But, to just say it is OPI, ESPN is looking to play up the "bad non call" angle from last year.

We shocked the world. Can we keep it going in SF?

We may match up ok vs San Fran.

Screw 'em. The game is overofficiated as it is. Let the players play.

Agreed. I saw hand fighting initiated by the Saints defender first. I see it as a perfect no call. I thought the officials called a fair game. There were some poor moments on both sides. We won it fair and square! Took the ball in OT and smoked em! It was very refreshing.

Terry Bradshaw was literally laughing and clowning around discussing the Vikings chances during the pregame show

Paraphrasing: "I don't see any way they win this game"

Add to that the joker chiming in regarding the Conboys HC coaching position "Zimmer will be in play after today's game". That said I'm sure he was just reading these threads... [&:]

I won't lie. I live in Dallas and was simply relaying the message. Did this game keep Zim's job? Probably. You just never know. If we get blown out next week, maybe it swings the momentum back again. Much like Cousins, Zim's ability to navigate us through the playoffs is questionable. It would be great if we slowed down San Francisco's offense and put it to rest. It's a business, though. I really hope we kee ppl rolling. Forget about next season. I obviously want to win now!

To say that is just plain jackassery.

How so? Explain.

Before todays game Jay Glazer says "Zimmer will be in play [for the Conboys head coaching position] after today's game"

What about that is NOT jackassery?

Which you are saying was an assumption of loss for us (which I never said). I was relaying rumors eating up a news cycle. When did I ever say I hoped for a loss? I guess I'm not understanding your point.

I'm saying what Jay Glazer said BEFORE todays game "Zimmer will be in play [for the Conboys head coaching position] after today's game" was jack assery. You seemed to be defending what Glazer had to say. Since you were replying to my post.

Oh, then it was a miscommunication. My bad.

MarkWren -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 7:31:43 PM)

Didn't see this coming: a well-prepared, well-rested squad that started fast and finished faster, in OT, on the road, at New Orleans, in the playoffs! Kudos to Coach Zimmer & his staff, just amazing stuff. So, once again I prove to all I know next to nothing about pro football! [:D]

Other observations: O'Neill is a beast at RT. Thielen looked rusty early, got hosed on the holding call, then got better & better as the game went on. Dalvin, after a rocket-fast start, devolved into Michael Bennett vision-wise 2nd half. Just ran headlong INTO tacklers...weird to behold. Colquitt is rock solid, as is Marcus, as is Bailey on FG's. Kirk, as one of the Fox panelists said, can now play FREE. No more monkey on the back. Just PLAY.

Rhodes gave his heart, body, and soul out there today. Guy is a gamer extraordinaire. Harry had a rough time, won't likely happen vs. SF. Everyone in the building HAD to know the last play was going to Kyle...total mismatch. Skol!

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 8:10:34 PM)

BTW- another big props to Zimmer and Crew. We 'may' have been forcing TO's all year (sorry who, but someone posted the numbers earlier) but it sure didn't seem that way until recently. Both those TO's today came at very crucial times.

Roger Steffen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 8:18:47 PM)

I think what it says is that Zimmer found a way to gameplan when we were left for dead. Kudos to him. There's no telling what next game brings, but our game -planning allowed us to live another day.

We found a way to basically shut down Drew Brees with Rhodes playing basically full time CB and Sendejo as our Nickel.

Props to Zimmer and Edwards.

Best defensive game of the year by far IMO. Brees looked as pedestrian as I can ever recall.

Props to everyone! Kirk with an amazing overtime drive as well. I can watch that Rudolph play over and overa

Agree on the Props with 2 nits to pick.

1. Bad job handling Hill.
2. Bad job with the fake punt. Lucky they had a motion penalty.

All i see is the reply. I love it. Hope it burns down in NO.

Al Riveron actually with a statement that I agree with 100%. Contact by both players (absolutely true) not to the level to call it (agree completely) and they did what they did all year. Let the ruling stand.

“We looked at all of the angles that FOX afforded us, and FOX gave us some great views,” Riveron said. “There is contact by both players, but none of that contact rises to the level of a foul. This is consistent with what we’ve done all year long, we left the ruling on the field. We let it stand.”

On top of it - They let them play all game. No call when rudy was blatantly held at the top of the route earlier in the game. It would have been horseshit to have the league change it on review. A WORSE outcome.

I think today's game should give Zimmer 100% job security going into next season. They established the run and then used play action with success. The repeated unsuccessful runs to the weak side in the 4th quarter weren't too impressive but moving Griffen and Hunter around on defense completely baffled Brees and Payton. Was great to see the innovation on D and the mostly smart playcalling on O.

Agreed. Love the defense wrinkle. I was sketical about Senjedo as slot but the defense played lights out - other than containing number 7.

Offense made enough plays. Also hate the toss sweeps to the short side of the field. Shortens the stretch and cut back option.

Enjoyed this one more than any in a long time. I was in a zen place and didn't get worked up until Thielan caught the bomb to the 2 yd line.

Impressed with the Saints fans. Obv bummed about the loss but only a few fans saying they were cheated by the refs and they get shouted down quickly.

They just raised a notch or two in my opinion of them.

The NBC analyst crew insists it was a missed PI call on Rudolph and that the league errored in not reversing the TD call.

I thought it was borderline. I was holding my breath at the end that it wouldn't be reversed. That would have been tough to reverse for the officials and even tougher for the Vikings if they did who arguably lost in Green Bay because officials did reverse a TD.

That reversal in GB was the most ridiculous one of the season that I saw. I'm sure there were others I missed but man that was a tough one.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 9:56:07 PM)

Going to start calling that PI you also need to call the defense for PI every time they touch a receiver. At that point you are basically judging pounds of force.

Size strength and force of will is what football is about.

Boy they want Brees out. And more want Hill than Teddy as the new starter. Although some wiser ones note that being a full time QB is different than being a gimmick.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 10:04:03 PM)

A couple of excerpts from this article:

Saints tackle Ryan Ramczyk had not allowed a single sack all year, but surrendered two against Hunter.

Zimmer and his staff decided to use safety Andrew Sendejo at nickel cornerback. He had never played the position before, but executed in a playoff game. Sendejo held his own and had a notable pass breakup over the middle. There were several instances where the Saints tried to create a mismatch for wide receiver Michael Thomas. When this happened, Thomas was held in check. New Orleans’ top wide receiver had just seven catches for 70 yards.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/5/2020 10:10:36 PM)

What do you do with a guy like Hill when his contract comes up?

He doesn’t play enough to pay big money but will he command big money and force you to lose regular players to stay under cap.

https://www.vikings.com/news/vikings-kirk-cousins-accuracy-leadership-shine-on-winning-ot-drive

Gave me goosebumps. Love Zimmer resetting this team about it meaning nothing if they don't show up next week.

Cousins calling it a team win. Then "YOU LIKE THAT"????

See how the team responds to him?
