Elflein will still be on his rookie contract next year. I doubt they cut him.

The interior guys can block downfield, but good luck running between the tackles, and they don't pass block well enough against the better DTs when Kirk stays in the pocket. Seems like a fatal flaw of this offense.

With this offense, either need a mobile QB or an interior OL that can pass block a lot better. The fact that Bradbury and Elflein can block downfield was useless today.

In this day and age it seems painfully obvious that you need a qb that can move a little. I hope like hell we draft someone in the first couple rounds.

Agreed
Cousins is such a statue
We all agree the oline stinks, but not sure why we think Spielman can correct it
He signed Reiff, he drafted Elflein, he drafted Bradbury.
He has 0 idea what he is doing

Could it be that we have no idea how to develop oline as well?

Could be
But I thought we had the Kubiak/Dennison genius?

hey they built some great Olines back in the 70's

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:04:38 PM)

When it works you all praise it as Kubiak braintrust with Stefanski calling the plays and Zimmer ball allowing Kirk to play within his limits in his head to win games...

When it goes ALL WRONG, you all cry Stefanski cant call a good game and the OL just cannot do anything to allow Kirk time...

Maybe its time to admit it all isnt working, the direction, the parts and the visions...

8 first downs today showed something clearly isnt working. You have Diggs, Cook, Theilen, Rudolph Mattison and an 84 million dollar QB and got 8 first downs? It's crazy! Maybe we got 9 in garbage time I dont know.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:07:57 PM)

It all starts in the trenches. Got to give SF credit for picking all them Dlineman early.

Their oline looked fairly stout today as well.

Seeing what Tenn is doing in Balt does kind of debunk the short rest excuse.

When we came out and ran up the middle twice, ended up in 3rd and 8 and air mailed a pass I knew we were screwed. Dumb dumb dumb!

Yeah. We are not getting over the hump but we played a game the 2nd week of January. Better than 24 other teams.

It kind of reminds me of the Denny teams that spun their wheels until Moss landed in our laps.

Does Speilman have an off season plan that will get us over the hump? I'm hoping that the urgency of only one year left will have him do some daring moves and not quantity over quality.

My memory isn't good. But during that mini win streak seemed like we were throwing a lot on 1st downs. PA can work in that situation too.

True but you could see we were trying the same lame gameplan we brought out against GB. Cousins looked off too. Holding the ball and tentative.

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:17:06 PM)

From the start of teh game our running game was off, we were beat in the trenches for a power run game AND Kirk started off stiff, but there were again NO ADJUSTMENTS... and nothing ever seemed to be done in playing a hurry up O or going more quick strike pass heavy when we needed it most. Kirk was not on today and the magic just didnt happen...

This team only goes as far as the O line allows with Kirk behind it... when both ore off we are doomed... High off last week and we came out tired, worn down and straight up FLAT compared to the Niners... We hung in there for a bit but when we played for the FG rather than go full out agressive for points it was over...

Three years of Kirk Cousins will likely bear out the fact that he is a good QB with real numbers that should take a team to next level, but I dont see him doing that for this regime and team as built...

Yeah. We did it and Cousins had all day.

Today, he barely got the fake completed and was getting a DLineman in his face.

I like Cousins but I think it's time to get a QB in the draft we can call our own. Cousins peak is probably what we got this year. He's too robotic. We need someone that can make a play out of nothing once in a while. If there's a good qb this year we gotta grab one.

Their defensive Coordinator had a read on every thing we tried. The screens were a pick 6 waiting to happen and we are lucky Cook didn't get injured with all the free shots they had at him.

Good points Mark. It seemed they knew exactly what we were running the entire time. Doesn't give me a warm fuzzy on our offensive game plan today.

The Happy Norseman -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:23:36 PM)

Not surprisingly, the Vikes go down because of their inferior offensive line. What else is new? Luckily, Spielman has it easy next year. He needs to sign 2 stud OG’s, then draft a stud DT in the first and our QB of the future in the 2nd and we can make a run. We need to dominate in the trenches the way most Super Bowl winners do. With the exception of O’Neill, the dude can’t draft olinemen to save his life, so he needs to pony up for proven commodities. We’ve got enough talent on D, with or without Rhodes, Waynes and Griffin.

I would agree that we need to go after a franchise guy every other year. One thing Denny valued was a good QB.

As a very good analyst said a few weeks ago
If Kirk Cousins doesn’t get you a Super Bowl that signing is a disaster. Period

Similar to what happened against Philly in the NFC championship game except the Philly offense knew exactly what to do against our defense.

odin -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:29:36 PM)

Funny how the Thumbtacks are taking it to the heavily-favored Ravens early on. They look fresh with an aggressive game plan rather than looking flat, lifeless and without direction. Interesting.

Could we get this far with a cheaper Tannehill or Fitzmagic and a beefed up OLine? Probably.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/11/2020 8:31:21 PM)

Had we competed today I think we would have some positivity to take into next year. I'm not sure getting hammered like we did today gets anyone very excited for another year of the same. We need a great draft and some good signings/departures. Surely Rhodes is gone.

Win or lose Vrabel is a much better coach imo. Doing more with less.

Come on now. We were down by 4 points at halftime and the defense was starting to get the best of Garropolo. Far from lifeless and without direction.

2nd Half: I will agree with you.

Agreed. You could see that the Vikes were overmatched but were playing tough and keeping the game within reach. It was obvious that Zimmer had to make adjustments at halftime if we were going win the game. He didn’t.

Key is we played NOT TO LOSE in first half, never had momentum, never played with agression...

We played Zimmer ball, close to vest, feeling take the sure points and punt rather than be agressive... It did keep it close UNTIL we ran out of gas and they passed us by and then left us in the dust...

Zimmer never will play any other way...
