Without trading up we should have some decent options.

This is the (consensus) big board at #22. What are you doing?

RB D'Andre Swift (UG)
LB Patrick Queen (LSU)
S Xavier McKinney (Bama)
WR Tee Higgins (Clemson)
WR Laviska Shenault (UC)
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (PSU)
IDL Ross Blacklock (TCU)
IOL Cesar Ruiz (UM)
T Josh Jones (Houston)

(Purple Post on Twitter)

McKinney(assuming we traded Harris) or Gross Matos

You don't see Odenigbo as worthy of being our starter at DE? Of course it depends a lot on if we trade Harris and what we trade him for, but it seems to me that we have a screaming need for CB, WR and offensive line. That's what I want to see our first three picks for, even if Harris is gone.

We need a DLine that can get to the QB. It will make all our CBs better.

We will have a DE rotation. Plenty of playing time for both Odenigbo and Gross-Matos.

We rotated 5 DE's last season and lost two to FA.

Need to draft a good one that can contribute.

Clearly it's a need. Hunter was selected in the third round and I see a lot of prospects who will go between the end of the first round until the third round. I would rather trade up in the third round for a player who drops a bit.

We've had good luck picking developmental guys which i don't have a problem with a mid rd guy with some upside. But if a good one slips like Chaissen we should pull the trigger on him.

Agreed on Chaisson. NFL.Com has him the 6th highest rated player in the draft with a 6.88 score.

Most have him as the best edge rusher in this class next to Chase Young. I expect him to go top 5-10 easily. These edge guys fly off the board early like popcorn.

sheesh, all this time I thought we had two picks in the second also [:o]

now I don't know what to think...WR versus DL versus OL...

I feel like Zim wants DL...

but OL could trump that for sure

I'm sure the Vikings would be happy to get a second round pick for Harris.

I just saw the rankings for draft capital on NFL.Com. Vikings despite multiple 1sts and 3rds are only 21st. So all our excitement for the draft should probably be tempered a bit.

We probably don't have the average compensatory picks. We did trade away a fourth rounder for the kicker. I can't think of any other reason, maybe you can why the Vikings draft capital is less than average. Wait. I know. Because we had a successful season and draft at the back end of each round.

Not much better, but I thought it was a 5th rounder for the Ravens kicker [sm=vomit.gif]

Bruce I get that we had a late draft position, but I thought that an extra first and third would compensate for that and make us at least middle of the pack.

I love Jefferson as well... I'm very torn in that I'm not sure it's a great idea to replace the receiver you just dealt with a first round WR... but if Jefferson is there late first... I think he has ability to be very good from day 1.

The knock on Jefferson is that he is a slot receiver only. When they tried him on the outside his production went down a lot. Thielen is primarily a slot receiver so there's a conflict. I personally would draft him in the first anyway.

Watching this Tuszka kid reminds me a lot of Jared Allen. I am not saying that he is as good, blah, blah, blah, I am saying he reminds me a lot of him when he was coming out of Idaho, same kind of energy and relentless pursuit. He's be a guy to take a flyer on in day three.

Watching his film... I don't see that at all... which doesn't really mean much.

However, like Simms comments... when you have a receiver that runs great routes with great hands... it's hard not to like to like him.

I see a handful of elite WRs and then the next group of a lot of good WRs.

It just depends on your strategy... but if you want an elite WR I think Jefferson will end up one.

I'd also pick a bone with saying Thielen is primarily a slot WR... he certainly played in the slot but he has played a ton outside as well... his skill set isn't limited to slot by any means.

I feel the same. Some analysts make him sound like a cross between Michael Thomas and Keenan Allen, but if he's really all that, why is he there in the 20s? There's also the matter of need, but will a Day 1 OG be available in the late first who wouldn't also be there in the second? I believed the analysts on Bradbury, and he still might live up to his hype, but who really knows?

I like having guys who can play the slot or outside, and have at least a little speed. Jefferson has all that. Plus hands. I don't want any receiver who needs to work on his hands; even working on focus is a yellow light about to turn red.....

I wondered about that, but it was dated today. How could they have made that huge of a mistake. On the other hand another first getting us to 14th is about what I would expect. Thanks for the great work Chris.

Jefferson just being a slot receiver I have seen in a number of places on the spiderweb. I'm just repeating what I have heard about that. I think it's fair to say that Thielen is primarily a slot receiver that can certainly play outside as well. I'm not letting the slot only thing bother me much at all. I was just stating why some people discount him a bit.

Got Ruggs for the first time and still got Chaisson and one of the best CBs. Got solid OL with depth, but no great OL. The RB Gibson is expected to play WR in the NFL with some great gadget play potential. The LB Muse is expected to play Safety in the NFL.

quote:

TYLER BIADASZ

We need a plug-in solid left guard as part of this draft....

Biadasz——He plays under control and usually hits his landmarks, but he has issues winning when matched against power. Pass protection could be a concern, as NFL sub-rushers will feast on his lunging and average lateral quickness. Biadasz's skill level has been developed, so he could become an early starter with limited upside.

I am reading that he would be a first rounder if it weren't for an injury. It's hard for the teams to evaluate injuries these days with the virus situation. I'm assuming you are referring to Terrell Lewis. I'm thinking that he might be there for us with our second round pick, but probably not for our third rounder. It looks like he's a potential starter and stud if he can stay healthy, but he missed parts of two seasons in Alabama.

I bet Jefferson didn't have any bad games being that his team won every one of them last season. Still, I am thinking that going off of highlight videos is only going to show the potential of a receiver. I bet the scouts like to especially review game film when one player is matched up with another player who will play on Sundays. Then there's the Senior Bowl practices which is more of that.

According to this profile, his weakness is his route running. Add to that he began to excel after being moved to the slot, so he certainly has his limitations, but he is also good at retrieving contested balls. He certainly has that size and athleticism combination that will have teams salivating. His quarterback was very agile and created plays out of nothing, so again I believe he benefited a lot from being an LSU Tiger.

He is a player who could be complementary to what we have. I mean we don't have a player like him. Tajae Sharpe, Olabisi and Thielen all seem really good at running routes. Like in basketball, wide receivers are often a matter of match ups. A corner may be really good with the loose hips and the quickness to stay with good route runners, but may be lacking with the size, physicality and overall speed to match up with a player like Jefferson and that can be exploited by the coordinator. When I think about that, I do believe the Vikings must be studying him now and considering him with one of their first round picks.

Bill Jandro -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (3/29/2020 8:57:41 AM)

IMO the only 2 wr's I'd consider in rd 1 would be Lamb and Jeudy.

Both are extremely polished route runners with speed and good hands.

wr and qb seem to have a higher 1st rd bust rate than most other positions.
