amirite, kg?

Just my luck an urge for poetry struck. It was just a couple lines, edited a few times. I fear that I'm hooked and this will grow into a book.

There is a very good chance Antoine Winfied JR wont be on the board in the second round.

I'm torn on him. The Gopher fan in me would love to see him in Purple. I'm not sure if his lack of size will be a problem for him in the pros. I think he'll do well but is he worth a 1st rounder?

Look at our 2 most recent drafts

Slam dunk prospect = Bradbury

Developmental, risky prospect = O'Neill

So much uncertainty. Dont take one too high unless they are truely elite. Better to take 2 later than 1 early

(Steezo on Twitter)

In general I agree. I don't see how Bradbury went wrong.

Rookie year....we don't know yet.

i don't trust 1st round picks anymore...i'd definitely trade back with at least one of ours....

For 20 years the Patriots have been picking either low in the first round or trading out of the round altogether.

I wouldn't be surprised to see trader Rick trade both picks out of the first round and add a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rounders. then Stock up on DBs, WRs and Olinemen.

Yes Please !

Use one early 2nd Rounder on Antoine JR.

Can't have too many Stud DB's, esp with our situation.

I'm definitely on board with trading one of our first rd. picks.

I don't want to spend high to trade up for someone who is rated only slightly higher (=slightly less of a gamble) than we would be taking with our regular pick.

In my current fantasy, we use #22 on the best remaining talent at CB, OL or DL ... NOT WR!

Then trade our other first with a whatever pick for somebody else's early second and a whatever pick.

Use a fourth or whatever Day 3 pick on a veteran.

Poem of the day
Title The Vikings 2020 draft

Somebody true will fall to 22
after that don't frown when we trade down. [:D]
Don't be a believer in an early wide receiver
it will be a debacle if we don't get a tackle
it shouldn't be too hard for us to also get a guard.
Zim will be a mourner if we don't get a corner.
We want Rick to take a pledge to get us an Edge
We won't listen to any Troll We'll just win the Super Bowl.

Needs a line about not wasting a pick on a K or P. [:D]

I like Cleveland a lot because he is a good fit and I suspect he is more talented than he was able to showcase. My problem with drafting him at #25 is that we would need that selection to be a starter and from what I can read about him here he he is still a work in progress. He needs to get bigger and stronger. Do we want one of our precious first rounders that needs to be a home run (because we need at least five home runs in this draft) to be a developmental selection? Of course, that is what was said about Brian O'Neil when he came out and indeed that did turn out to be a home run, but he was selected at the end of the second round.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/14/2020 10:45:22 PM)

The Vikings have met with a couple RBs. Of note is Darrynton Evans who ran a 4.4 and is considered a 4th to 5th rd pick. He's a 3 down back plus KR. Also Reggie Corbin who I included in a couple mocks. Zone slasher/speedy back who needs to prove himself in the passing game.

(Vikings Spin on Twitter)

I do want to see more speed in the lineup. It looks like to me the Vikings are thinking the same way.

i think that mac and even hughes looked too short in many games last year...i'd use 6' as a minimum height for a db theses days...when you include arm length and jumping ability there's probably an 8" difference in vertical elevation....

trade back twice for a 2nd and 3rd and then draft two cb's and one safety within the first seven picks...that leaves two picks for o-line, one for d-line and one for wr in the first three rounds...then pick Tyler johnson in the 4th and go from there....

each of our 1st rounders equate to a fairly early 2nd and early 3rd....

this might seem crazy, but i'd shop harris and cook for a 1st, or both a 2nd and 3rd...sign Griffen at $5m...maybe do a trade for williams and let reiff go....

i don't see cook as a viking in 2021 and i think he could be a distraction this season....

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 4:50:32 AM)

8 days until the draft. Part of me thinks that I get too worked up about the draft. It is a decisive day in determining the future of the franchise- the faces and personalities of the team for sometimes years and years. Even after they retire they may still call themselves a Viking and "always a Viking". So it's a big day for us, but an even bigger day for the players. I don't know. I guess I'll continue to be all worked up. 8 more days.

Bill Jandro -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 6:38:32 AM)

Both Cleveland and J Johnson would be good at the top of rd 2. Couple trade backs and acquire more picks.

Load up on high ceiling players with our multiple 3rd rd picks.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 7:48:45 AM)

We speculate on the options for players and for trades, but obviously it has to be a function of who is on the board when it's time to draft and what the offers are from willing trading partners, which is not every team. I mean, some teams would be willing to make a trade if we overpay. The decisions are very dynamic.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 7:54:22 AM)

Lol I wonder if there’s been a team in the NFL which was so much better drafting in R2 than R1 since 2014 than the Vikings, lol.

Round 1 was pretty rough: Barr, Teddy, Waynes, Treadwell, Hughes, Bradbury

R2: Kendricks, Alexander, Cook, O‘Neill, Irv Smith

I've read that draft risers have a bad track record. Nevertheless, some of these players look intriguing.

He likes Van Jefferson for an early round WR. I hate that. He is known for great route running, but he's slow and had very little production.
He likes Joshua Jones for our first pick #22. Makes a good case for him and I would have no problem with that. One other notable is John Hightower a very speedy WR for 3rd day. Sounds like a good fit. Not much else of note except for choices I don't like.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 10:39:09 AM)

If there is a trade up, history suggests he trades up into the tail end of the first round. He says he likes the additional time of control for 1st round picks.

Because it would take so much to trade into the late first from #58, I think the only way he does that this year is with ammo rec'd from trading down beforehand.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/15/2020 10:40:55 AM)

At times he has claimed he groups players, so will trade down or up depending on who is there. If so, it would depend entirely on what is shaking out each round and not some pre-draft strategy to get an extra second rounder or whatever.

The draft is one of the most fascinating sporting events of the year, imo

I think most of us feel that

no reason to apologize

sometimes the draft feels more interesting than some of the games

and especially drafts when we have a lot of "draft capital" like this year

add to that that there is nothing else on the planet right now for sports entertainment

funny, i keep talking to sports friends about it and they still have no interest...

obviously "to each their own", but I don't get why people DON'T get worked up over it

8 days...

I could see that...and makes a lot of sense, especially if there are a dozen or so guys ranked similarly at the time we are supposed to pick at 25...

Also, I could see RS trading back with Cin for the first pick of day 2 and first pick of day 3 even though the value chart says we would get the short end of that deal...he has said he loves to have the first pick of the day.

I would actually applaud that, if he can make it happen

(depending on who is there at 25...if it is a guy that can help immediately, then don't get too damn cute, just take him)
