If there is going to be very little off-season time for practice, then there is a premium for veterans and a discount for rookies, especially lower round rookies.

Translation:. It is smart to trade up or trade a draft pick for a veteran.

Not in a wr rich draft.

This trade would be all about Spielman trying to save his own ass.

Didn't you say that the Diggs trade was all about Spielman trying to save his ass? How could that have been true and Spielman possibly trying to make an OBJ trade to save his own ass also be true? Your Marty-like conspiracy theories are swaying all over the place.

Never said that regarding the Diggs trade.

Do your research before spouting off

The search on this website does not seem to work and I don't have time to go through all past posts and threads. What were your thoughts on why Spielman did the Diggs trade?

I doubt Spielman wanted to trade Diggs because plain and simple we're not as good of a team w/o him. There wasn't much cap savings either due to the 9m dead cap hit from the trade.

There's no conspiracy theory here. Spielman wants to win now so he can keep his job. I don't blame him for going after OBJ. I'd probably be doing the same thing if I were in his shoes.

It's the Wilf's responsibility to keep him reigned in as far as selling out the future to win now.

A GM that had a longer deal would be drafting a couple wr's this year because of it's depth and the fact that the draft is how you build your team. Plus, OBJ does not come cheap and can be a volatile component in the locker room.

The #Vikings have interviewed former Minnesota WR Tyler Johnson.

Per
@DWolfsonKSTP
They’ve done their homework on the in state prospect and he could be an early day 3 option for them.

I would have no problem with him being a late day 2 prospect. 105 for Tyler Johnson sign me up.

I just hate the Skor people so much, but I'll give it a read anyway.
They convinced me that Josh Jones is better than Jackson and Cleveland.
They reinforced my belief that Mims and Reagor are our best likely WR options
Their report of McTelvin Agim put him firmly on my list for DT if we don't draft one early.

But why would he trade Diggs if he "wants to win now to keep his job". No conspiracy theory, but no logical consistency either. We have to say that the Diggs move is something that, if it pans out, does so in the future, but not this year. This is inconsistent with "wants to win now to keep his job" actions.

Todd M -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/17/2020 11:40:02 AM)

No way do I trade up in this draft. Guys are going to be coming off the board in the to 20 no one expected. I mean it happens already but this year there could be a lot.

Sitting pretty with our 2 picks we could land premier talent.

If one of those elite OTs gets in the 16-18 range, I would give up a late 3rd to get him.

But, you are probably spot on about staying put. Maybe a slight move back if possible.

They will play the wait and see approach. I believe if Wirfs is on the board at a reasonable distance, the Vikes will move up to get him. At that point, they can trade back from 25 and pick up a couple of day 2 picks.

stand pat is fine, a slight move back could lead to some artful drafting, which I think RS loves to do...

If I had to bet, I think I'd bet on a trade back with the 2nd of the first rd picks

Dana Turner -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/17/2020 2:27:00 PM)

There are a few positions that it is extremely rare that they come in and contribute at a high level, no matter where they were drafted. You can count the CB's on one hand that came in to the league on their first year and were solid, it's just the NFL vs. NCAAFB, there is a huge difference between professionals and college athletes. You see the big ugly's come in during their first year and contribute, but that's because they are part of a unit, a group that is running out a scheme or protection. WR's, CB's and to some extent Safeties, have a more difficult assignment because if they "F" up, points go on the board, and the rookies get exposed by professional coordinators all the time. We need to take a CB with the 22nd or 25th pick, but the guy we take has to have the smarts if he's going to contribute early. Chances are he will rotate in at nickle like Hughes did or corner like Hill did, but I think there will be a veteran picked up in the next 10 days or so. Our CB room is thin and adding a draft pick or two to it does not make it capable.

That said, I am hoping they trade back the #22 to #34 or 35 and get another third or top 4th, take someone like Ruiz with the 25th, get a CB at the top of the second and a guy like Pittman at the #58 pick. Then maybe get another CB or Safety, and BPA in the third.

I am not as worried as some about the DL, because I have been watching film on Peirce and he will be fine in the LJ roll, I truly believe Watts will be a stud, starting with this year and if one more guy can step up, besides the steady Stephen, like Holmes or Hercules, we can have a pretty solid rotation going in the middle. I believe Griff will come back for around 6 million for his last season, not sure why I feel that way, I just do. Even if he doesn't/does we need to add one more edge guy to fill out the rotation.

This is obviously an unusual draft coming up. We have to hope that they draft smart, hard working, football intelligent guys like we have been doing. They don't have to be super athletes, but they do need to have good work ethics and smarts if they are going to contribute early. Guys like O'Neal aren't hard to find, but you have to be looking in the right direction and avoiding too much hype! Nobody thought O'Neal was going to be as solid as he is when we picked him, that's the kind of luck/scouting we need to hit on about six times in this upcoming draft if we are going to remain relevant.

Dana I totally respect your opinion so if you expect Watts our 6th round pick from last year who barely played to not only start, but be a stud I'm going with it. I also love the idea of Griffen coming back.

I think the reasons why they traded Diggs are fairly obvious. He didn't want to be here via his cryptic tweets and may well have been a distraction in the locker room as well. My best guess is that Zim felt it pertinent to get rid of him ans Rick took his advise.

That's why opened saying Rick most likely didn't want to trade him.

That would be Wirfs, Thomas, Wills, Becton, Jones, Jackson and Cleveland. I actually like Wirfs at guard better than Tackle. Let's get him. I don't mind a trade up, but we can't afford #4.

The "artful" trader Rick will want to trade 25 back into the 2nd plus a couple mid rounders (4th or 5th), then package one mid rounder to move back into 1st and get a guy we would have taken at 25 anyway if we couldn't have done the trade and come away with an extra mid round pick or a vet cb or something

I love that kind of stuff
