Harrison would be a great fit for the dline. He has a good push and is tough against the run. Please sign him soon.

We wouldn't be getting him at his best, but he's the best option available. Sign him soon.

Just saw these tweets:

According to Kubiak, Reiff is sticking at LT and Ezra is getting work at G.... honestly don’t love kicking Ezra inside. I’d rather him get LT reps and stay there long term.

(Vikings Daily)

Asked Kubiak if he has settled on his starting O-line. He indicated the four incumbents are set. Said right guard is a battle between Dakota Dozier, Aviante Collins and rookie Ezra Cleveland. Said they will know if Cleveland, the heir apparent to LT Riley Reiff, can handle RG.

(Mark Craig)

It also sounded like Kubiak hinted at Elflein getting first team reps at LG with Dozier, Collins, Ezra, and I assume Samia getting reps at RG.

Bold move leaving Elflein at LG IMO.

(Vikings Daily)

It's not surprising that the #Vikings would put Pat Elflein in a starting position to start camp. Incumbents usually get the first look. The difference is that there are fewer opportunities for him to get usurped with a shortened camp and no games.

(Sam Ekstrom)

Gary Kubiak indicated moving Riley Reiff to guard isn't on the table. "I'm a big Riley Reiff fan,'' he said of the left tackle.

(Chris Tomasson)

Gary Kubiak said #Vikings offensive line coach/run game coordinator Rick Dennison is the best teacher he’s been around as a coach.

Kubiak said the coaches feel good about the team’s depth at offensive line.

(Sean Borman)

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 1:36:17 PM)

Cleveland at RG makes ZERO sense. Stance, footwork ect...LG is where we desperately need somebody.

So RG auditions for Samia, Clev, Collins, Dozier, Udoh, and the waterboy.

WTF??? Elflain have incriminating photos of Wilf or what?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 1:40:44 PM)

#Vikings tackle Brian O'Neill on when the team might need to settle on a starting five on the offensive line: "That's not for me to decide. I've got enough problems trying to block Danielle Hunter every day.''

Chris Tomasson

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 1:41:38 PM)

Before you panic too much about Cleveland at RG it did seem like the intention wasn't for him to actually start there, but just to learn it as a way to increase flexibility- maybe wise in a world where everyone's depth is gonna get stress tested.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 1:44:58 PM)

I guess there is a premium on continuity, especially with the off-season that is being faced. This is Courtney Cronin on Twitter:

In talking about the offensive line, Kubiak notes how the team has four starters back and mentions the opening at right guard left vacant by Josh Kline. By that logic, it would keep Pat Elflein in line for his job at left guard. During the draft, GM Spielman said there would be

Why? Elf has shown he's bad at football. This is the perfect time to try somebody else.

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 1:58:00 PM)

Samia must not look very good if he's not getting a lot of consideration to start.

Guess that'd be for me

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 2:31:42 PM)

Interior oline was our weak link last year.

So Spielman promtly cuts our best G with little cap savings. In fact, we're more or less paying him anyway.

Guess Spielman showed how smart he is. everyone expected me to cut our worst G. I'll show them how complicated this business is and cut our best G.

there is so much of that i find disturbing...somehow i feel like we're already phucked and the season hasn't even started....

sign a bloody guard!....

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 3:12:22 PM)

Good thing we didn’t draft any Guards for G competition (rds 1-4) since this thing has worked out so beautifully. Elflein has it covered!

Hopefully Samia and Udoh - that some in here pencilled in as possible 2020 starters - can stick with our junior varsity.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 3:58:54 PM)

The Vikings coaching staff has been hanging on to starters too long and seem unwilling to hold actual competitions for starting spots. It’s a thing that’s hindered the team’s success to various degrees. Might as well get Rhodes back and start him again too. Eye roll.

We could trade O’Neill for Rhodes straight up and really show off Dennison’s coaching chops.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 4:20:21 PM)

If there is a year to hang onto the veterans and let them start this would be it. Just saying because I'm not inspired either.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 5:41:44 PM)

It's not what we are used to getting, but it's all we have in the way of practice highlights.

I agree with both parts of this. If we had a regular offseason, training camp and preseason, I would want more. But, it is so hard to blood new OL with nothing but some practice time before real NFL games. This year, rookie OL picked after the first Round may be almost redshirt candidates. How would you really know enough about Ezra, for example, to give him a starting job anywhere? Because he looked good in practice for a month?

I think Reiff coming back at LT ended up being a no-brainer and, while I am not excited about Elflein at LG, keeping him and starting camp with him on the First Team makes some sense. You have to think Kline was either more injured than we thought or less valued around the league, because he is still unemployed. With the shortage of quality OLs, this seems very surprising to me.

I am not saying we should be thrilled about any of this. More that this is the way it is going to be this strange year.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 9:23:16 PM)

The biggest free agent for the Vikes may be Sharpe, now. If it's not him who would it be? Perhaps someone who is not yet on the team. We'll see, but I'm thinking that Sharpe may be a good contributor. Jefferson is a rookie with no preseason games. Johnson has limitations. Especially early look for Sharpe to be a frequent target for Cousins.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/5/2020 9:44:22 PM)

Nick Olson says that Jefferson will play mostly in the slot. I say perhaps less in the future.

I had the same thought earlier today. I am not a fantasy football person, but he could be a good sneaky valuable player to pick up for fantasy.

Gary Kubiak believes having no preseason games would not dissuade him about possibility that rookie Ezra Cleveland could be #Vikings starting right guard.

This I don’t get, especially with Elflein. I’ve been watching him get his ass handed to him consistently since he moved to Guard, and yet we all get told he’s actually pretty good by the FO/ Coaching staff simply with there lack of action in replacing him. We get that one play every month or so when Elflein is blocking somebody 25 yards down the field that the announcers rave about, all the while he’s getting trucked at the point of attack.

This was plain as day to me when the Vikings FO said it will be the top five guys that will play PERIOD

Got a lot of push back in here against Cleveland moving positions.

Seemed to work for Matt Birk, albeit Birk was a late round pick as opposed to Cleveland.

I believe many of you will find this interesting. Adjustment is made for how the game has changed.
