Unseating an anointed starter just isn’t a thing under zimmer. It’s a part of his coaching style that could improve.

Agreed. he seems to have his guys and keeps trotting them out there matter how bad they play.

Not sure what the love affair this team has with Elflain but the guy has been a complete liability the last 2 seasons. If there was no one worthy of replacing him with Spielman should have drafted 15 G's[:D] or at least moved some money around and picked up a servicable FA G.

Zimmer does not call the shots with regards to the OL. "Hey Kubiak, Dennison WTF! Get Elflein in there, or else!" Preposterous.

I can’t think of a single player on the entire team that ever cracked the starting lineup for a reason other than injury.

I am floored that not only is Elflein apparently the incumbent at RG, but NONE of our rather tepid offseason acquisitions in our coaches view have stepped up to take the other guard position as well.
As much as I was against the signing of Josh Kline last year he actually turned out pretty damn solid. Evidently he was a non go forward contributor, but Dakota Dozier is being eased into an eventual replacement albeit at LG for Elf?
With my customary preseason meltdown this is asinine on its face, but that being said I’ll await the outcome as I believe we have one of the best OLine coaches in the league.
Trying to make Chicken salad out of Chicken sh#t would be pathetic with this glaring of a need that EVERYONE can see, and is incredibly key to us advancing.

On what basis?

Dennison has was fired in Buf in 17, fired from NYJ in 18.

Initially Kubiak was going to Denver in 2019. But Elway said no Dennison so kubiak brought all his cronies here.

Then you need gain more clarity in your thinking. Thielen, Austin Cutting, C.J. Ham, Brian O'Neill, Ifeadi Odenigbo, Danielle Hunter all either flat out replaced the incumbent or made it possible for the Vikings to release the incumbent, or drove the incumbent into retirement.

Thielen required an injury to make the lineup same as Diggs. I posted the details on that once a while ago. Ham plays a position that we carry one player at. I’ll look into cutting. O’Neil was an anointed starter (high draft pick worked out great!). I’ll look into hunter as well. I’m not sure but didn’t we hang on to Robison too long? Maybe they don’t overlap. I’ll look more later. Caught up in an all-day wedding right now.

Thielen beat out Jarius Wright straight up initially at slot receiver. The other ones? Most people only have one asshole.

Isn't the final cut down day in two or three weeks? It might be a bit early to speculate, but without real preseason games, perhaps not. We know that there will be some tough cuts.

It took an injury to Hill for ONeill to crack the lineup.

The idea of Dozier, Bradbury, Elf as our IOL is crashing my expectations for the season.

Cutting more or less replaced the old LS because of salary. The old LS had accrued several seasons and would have had to been paid more.

forgive me that I can't remember the old LS's name[;)]

Well if indeed Kubiak and Dennison forgot how to Coach after 2015 then I’d tend to agree with you.

The zone blocking scheme was a staple of top rushing teams from 2001-2009. 2010-2013 Kubiak/ Dennison jump started the Houston Texans to playoff stalwarts largely rushing the ball and defense.

Back to Denver to win a Super Bowl largely running the football (with an old Peyton Manning) and playing defense.

So forgive me but what is there not to like? Running the football and playing defense is Zimmer’s wet dream. Who is better then Kubiak and Dennison to carry that out?

Then we certainly got more stadium for our dollars. US Bank Stadium is no less spectacular because of this new stadium. We are fortunate to have such a beautiful venue that we can call our own. It felt like for a long time that it would not happen. I still wish it had been possible to build one stadium instead of three for the U of M football team, the Vikings and Twins. I guess there are times when two or more of the teams play at the same time, but what especially makes me sad is that a billion dollars plus was spent for the Vikings stadium and it only gets used a few times a year. Or am I wrong? Does it get used for tractor pulls and high school football championships, etc.?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/23/2020 6:18:18 AM)

I see that the US Bank Stadium gets used occasionally for trade shows and corporate events. I know that it was a big deal to have the Final Four here awhile back. St. Thomas vs. St. Johns football games were to be played there. Even some couples plan their wedding to be there.

I hope that it gets used a lot, but my sense is that it sits empty a lot and even more so now with the Covid pandemic. I really long for the day when we as a nation can return back to normal.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/23/2020 6:53:39 AM)

Ludford is very negative about our defensive line. I'm hoping that Johnson will be better this year having lost some weight and playing where he is a better fit. Stephen is also going to play where he is a better fit and they both won't be on the field on third downs. (I hope)

Jalyn Holmes is also moving where hopefully he is a better fit and will be a backup. I'm not so sure he will be a good third down player, though. I don't think so. I do believe Capers will help the defense get innovative on third downs. The bigger concern may be whether the defense can stop the run.

NCAA D1 wrestling was scheduled there this last year but was cancelled. I had tickets.

BTW, I got refunded by StubHub for my wrestling tickets but only a credit plus 20% for my baseball tickets in Toronto on Good Friday. I'd really just like my money back - not sure when I'll use StubHub in the near future.

2016 season
In the second preseason game, an 18–11 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Thielen led all Vikings receivers with four catches for 61 yards. With Stefon Diggs sidelined due to a groin injury, Thielen received the starting nod in his place and had one of the best performances of his career against the Houston Texans, breaking 100 receiving yards in a game for the first time in his career as he finished the game with seven catches for 127 yards and a touchdown

All the Taj ma Footballs look roughly the same in this generation. Jerry World started it, US Bank eclipsed that, and the LV and LA stadiums are variations on that. Vegas and US Bank are vacuuming public money out of other piles with no/few fans. Very expensive studios....could just play in airline hangers.

Zimmer does not call the shots with regards to the OL. "Hey Kubiak, Dennison WTF! Get Elflein in there, or else!" Preposterous.

Elflain has started all 3 seasons under 3 different OC's. And about to start his fourth season under yet another OC.

Who is the common denominator here einstein?

So you're saying Zimmer is dumping OCs because they can't get Elflein to perform. It just keeps getting better.

I'm saying Zim is the HC and is calling the shots. 4 OC's and Elflain is starting for all of them.

The only other explanation is orders from Spielman. Or, probably the most plausible one is that Spielman simply hasn't drafted/signed anyone better than Elflain. Which is scary.

Every HC we have ever had gets blamed for keeping low performing incumbent players over promising youngsters (although in the case of Elflein who exactly looks promising? Nobody.) Football coaches are creatures of habit and low or average performing continuity is always the lesser evil over youthful unreliability.

Elflein getting plugged in has nothing to do with Zimmer or Spielman. Nothing. It would be an absolute insult to both Kubiak and or Dennison to be directed in that way.

More than likely, it comes down to every new OC thinking their system and god-given coaching ability will unlock the potential of an Elflein.

You obviously have never worked for a big company. You'd be absolutely floored at the stupid shit the high level mustaches do.

You obviously know nothing about me.

While giving yourself a nosebleed in your rush to heap blame on Zimmer, you have ignored everything that has been reported, self-commented on by Zimmer, or rumored by anyone close to the team ... about the internal power structure. Kubiak and Dennison may get a defensive perspective or feedback from Zimmer but he’s too busy standing there googoo-eyed by the insightfulness of their conversations to make silly-assed Elflein demands.

Interesting. So in Thielen's breakout 2016 season both as a starter and as a big time player, Stephon Diggs was injured, and did not play, and was replaced by Thielen, as per your premise "I can’t think of a single player on the entire team that ever cracked the starting lineup for a reason other than injury."
