Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Rumors: Report of Vikings, Browns Talks ‘False’
ADAM WELLS

FILE – In this Dec. 22, 2019, file photo, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reacts before an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens, in Cleveland. A misdemeanor simple battery warrant has been issued for Cleveland Browns wide receiver and former LSU star Odell Beckham Jr., police in New Orleans said Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020. After trading Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings have been linked to talks with the Cleveland Browns about a deal for Odell Beckham Jr. in a report that has since been denied.

Per WFAN radio host Marc Malusis, the deal being discussed would require the Vikings to send their second- and fifth-round draft picks in 2021 to Cleveland in exchange for Beckham. However, a source spoke to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, calling the report "false."

ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler reported after the NFL Scouting Combine that the Browns were planning to have Beckham on their roster in 2020, but "they’d think about" trading him if another team blew them away with an offer.

The Browns sent Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler, and two 2019 draft picks to the New York Giants for Beckham and Olivier Vernon. Beckham had a solid year with 1,035 yards and four touchdowns, but the team struggled on its way to a 6-10 record.

Beckham was seen as a key piece to get the franchise over the hump coming off a promising 7-8-1 record in 2018 with Baker Mayfield looking like a future star as a rookie. But Beckham and Mayfield rarely seemed to be on the same page.

Minnesota has 12 total draft picks this year, including five in the first three rounds. The Vikings received first-, fifth- and sixth-round picks in the 2020 draft, as well as a fourth-round pick next year from the Buffalo Bills as part of the Diggs deal.

Diggs led the Vikings with 1,130 receiving yards in 2019. No other player on the team had more than 519.

I'm not saying she isn't right.

But, of course they are going to deny it. If it falls through, they can tell OBJ they had no intent of trading him.

Like us and Percy.

No way in hell this happens...

They have to create a VERY SAFE space for Cousins...

Why? It's not like Cousins has to be shielded or nurtured. Anymore than the team chemistry in general.

I agree it makes no sense ... most of all from a cap standpoint. Even including Harris in that trade keeps our cap up against a wall.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/15/2020 4:45:52 PM)

Cleveland is too busy fawning over their new retro uniforms than trading OBJ to the Vikings.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/15/2020 4:48:36 PM)

I think the talk is legit. OBJ family see how Vikes fans treated Diggs, Carter, and Moss....he wants out of Cleveland. You get a healthy OBJ and can fill the Harris, CB, OT needs in the draft......DO IT.

I'd be shocked if the Stefanski Browns did NOT have multiple pre-draft conversations with our team about a multitude of things including Harris, picks, and other players including OBJ. They would be dumb not to. That in no way means any of these scenarios are likely.

"Hey Kev, what would you give me for Harris, and while we're at it, what would you take for OBJ?"

"Hey Spielman ... what do you think about our 'new' (while using finger exclamation points even though its on a phone) retro uniforms?"

End of conversation ... while the good talkvikes people spend the next week leading up to the draft ripping eachother up over a possible trade.

Cousins absolutely needs to be shielded. If he’s not losing damn near every prime time game, he’s having at one time or another both Thielen, and Diggs blowing up at him. He also performs horrifically in a collapsing pocket. (As most QB’s do)

But here’s the caveat, much/ all of that may, or may not be his fault?

All those prime time games he didn’t actually perform that much worse? Bad Washington teams?

Diggs was a major league diva, and probably left a pretty good situation for him in Minny.

I don’t know what to make of Thielen’s brief blowup.

Or heaven forbid Cousins may just need a freakin OLine for once. That would be my call.

OBJ would be about the last WR I’d bring in here (attitude/cap issues)

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/15/2020 6:13:48 PM)

After careful consideration I am big thumbs up to landing OBJ. He finds himself here. He will be the one.

Sure we'll favor run over pass but when we do pass it will be with high precision and success.

Fingers crossed.

I predict future SB MVP if it happens.

needing a decent OL or a decent team or WRs that aren't major league divas ... ok, I agree.

there's no dead cap with beckham...we can go one year at a time...we still draft a couple of wr's this year - one in the 2nd and Tyler johnson in the 4th...if beckham's bullshit makes us crazy we trade him....

extend smith and somebody else, or trade harris for a 3rd to raise the cap space....

at least we'd have our wr situation handled for 2020 - and maybe beyond...he's had a better career than Diggs....

OBJ is maybe one of the last WRs I would go after to fill gaping hole left by Diggs ... one of absolute last!

The temperament / on field behavior stuff can be super annoying ...

But I’ll admit, the thought of an OBJ talent finding a happy spot in MN for 2-3 years betrays my better judgement and intrigues.

I guess that’s my version of fandom in a nutshell.

those were my first thoughts, too...but then, he's probably the only great receiver that's available...i say do the deal, and then sign dez Bryant to a minimum vet deal - move the wr's bench to the far end of the sideline and let those guys wack each other off when the defense is playing....
