So since Aug 15, 25% of all COVID cases in the U.S. came out of Sturgis. Bwaa. Ha. Ha. There's been all of 1 death of those 400,000 some bad bad motorcycle people. Nevermind that the U.S. case rate has remained on the same linear decline that it has been on since the middle of July. I'm pretty sure these are the same eminent scientists that our esteemed governor relied on for his "best case with optimal social distancing/mask wearing 50,000 Minnesotan deaths" threat. The gullibility level continues to... well, stay about the same level.

First off the study doesn't say 25%. I suspect the number was exaggerated earlier in this thread for effect. Secondly the study doesn't say the cases came out of Sturgis but rather can be traced to it. Or maybe the study is flawed, I don't really know. I read through it quickly. I'll happily read any more that get brought up here.

Right around 1 million cases in the United States since August 14th. The headline of the article says 260,000 cases from Sturgis. No exaggerating in this thread

Todd M -> RE: Covid 19 and those infected (9/9/2020 12:50:37 AM)

I don't care what the #'s are the Stugis get together was complete idiocy and all those who gather in such a fashion are the problem.

Brad H -> RE: Covid 19 and those infected (9/9/2020 6:37:03 AM)

People seem to forget that at one point there was one person in the country with COVID. Think about that for a minute and then remind me of what a great idea it was to attend Sturgis this year (knowing what we now know about how it spreads).

One turned into 6.5-million (and counting). We can argue until we are blue in the face about the facts (or lack thereof) from the article. The virus doesn't care. If you were one of the people in attendance, you acted irresponsibly towards fellow man. If you don't believe me, ask Herman Cain.

Todd M -> RE: Covid 19 and those infected (9/9/2020 6:41:30 AM)

It bugs the hell out of me...laugh at the proposed #'s of the potential fallout of that gathering without admonishing the gathering. What a shit wagon to hitch onto.

In Austria, a country with just 30k Coronavirus cases total, they canceled Faaker See Bike Week. It draws about 120,000, annually.

In Germany, BMW canceled Motorrad Days due to the virus. Germany has 112 deaths per 1-million people from the virus. The US has 586.

Harley Davidson's Euro Festival in France was canceled. France has 335k cases of the virus, total. The US has over 6.5-million.

The national H.O.G. Rally in Australia was canceled due to concerns over the Coronavirus. Australia has had a total of 26,000 cases of the Coronavirus. They also canceled the Ulysses AGM in Lismore, the Dubbo Motor Bike Rally postponed until May 2021, the Festival of Speed at Eastern Creek, the Gloucester Motorcycle Expo, Broadford Bike Bonanza at Easter and the Triumph Rat Rally in Kingscliff in May.

Some understand and respect the virus better than others.

Wonder how things would be for you not only if anyone else was president at this time but more specifically Obama. Somewhere between 10 and 20% of what you have? Hard to say but it should be a hard pill to swallow for Trump supporters...knowing he is literally responsible for many 10's of thousands of deaths. What really sucks is knowing how much flack Obama would have gotten even if it was 10%.

If you listen to Trump, the virus spread is already Obama's fault to begin with. His words, not mine.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, an annual event that packed nearly 500,000 people into a small town in South Dakota

Got a laugh out of this. Bikers are spread out over thousands of square miles in hundreds of towns and campgrounds throughtout the Black Hills. I'm not even sure why they refer to it as Sturgis.

You should see some of the pictures every year right in the town of Sturgis. There may be other bikers elsewhere, but they're crammed in like sardines in the town of Sturgis.

The town of Sturgis is not capable of housing 460k people over the course of the rally. Of course they are going to have to stay at campgrounds and such out of town. It doesn't mean they aren't going to the town of Sturgis during the day. Best I can see on a map is that they have 5-6 little hotels.

Not entirely sure. It didn't tell me.

One thing is for certain. It hasn't gone away like a miracle.

It depends on who you listen to.

Conservatives would have ripped him to high heaven.

MSM and DEMs/Libs would have praised him that he didn't allow the 2 million death projection of doing nothing.

Given that Obama was out of terms for office, my guess is that it is a moot point.

Just remember that it is probably 6.5 million X 15. CDC estimate.

We are learning that you can get the virus at a level that isn't even contagious. And also at a level that is very contagious. This needs to be figured out in the testing. No reason to have to skip work if you aren't contagious and are asymptomatic.

Just pointing out that our Country isn't exactly the most objective when it comes to Politics.

Impossible to do if we refuse to test at even close to an adequate level (no need to test if someone was clearly exposed and yet asymptomatic, according to CDC/Trump admin) and we continue to refuse---both officially and among civilians for libertarian/contrarian reasons---to do anything close to adequate contact tracing.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Covid 19 and those infected (9/9/2020 9:31:02 AM)

My report on Sturgis is simple and accurate. Titled "Sturgis was the stupidest thing done during the pandemic, and it's no wonder the world laughs at us.", the third print won't be available until Oct 15 due to high demand.

Trump's administration got out of the testing business before it even got going. To him, testing is bad. He is on record several times saying if we didn't test so much, we wouldn't have all these cases. That twisted logic alone is mind-boggling.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Covid 19 and those infected (9/9/2020 9:51:19 AM)

As Jim Mora would say, "Testing? Don't talk about testing. You kidding me? Testing? I just hope we can wear a mask."

Which is completely unknowable. But if you repeat it frequently enough.
