ORIGINAL: Bill Johanesen Fans should be outraged but it actually spurs MORE fan interest in their quest for the mysterious 'spirit of competition'. Yet nary a peep that the NFL rules even allow a 7-9 team to be in the playoffs. Or damn near half make the playoffs. Spirit of competition, elusive you are. Ah, the masses... so gullible. [sm=eusa_boohoo.gif] The record has nothing to do with it. Those are the rules that have governed the game for decades. One or two of those teams that made the playoffs went on to win their first playoff game. On that note, Wentz came out today and said he is going to ask for a trade. After the debacle on Sunday night, don't be surprised if there is a mass exodus of veterans in Philly. The players put their bodies and lives on the line every day in practice and in the off-season, working out for an opportunity to win. When the coach opts to make ridiculous decisions that don't afford them that opportunity, there is bound to be a backlash. You could see it on their faces on the sidelines. I guarantee you the GM's phone was ringing off the hook over the past 12 hours. The Wentz request was the worst kept secret in sports. Stolen opportunities spiraling towards 4-11-1? Really? If you think winning is paramount sitting at .300 during the pre-game breakfast and above the business aspect of it, then there isn't anything to say. Rah, rah, go team. I have no sympathy for the Eagles. I have no sympathy for the Giants. I have an issue with a coach cashing out his chips before the end of the card game. It's unethical, at-best. They can say what they want about Adam Gase, but he had his guys playing hard until the bitter end. I'd hire him in some capacity over Pederson at this point. The NFC East is an embarrassment. I'm glad there is controversy in Philly, glad Wentz wants out. But the Eagles get the 6th pick instead of the 9th, a good bit of draft capital, which sucks. And when the Eagles are on the clock multitudes of their deplorable fans will be cheering, which also sucks. Too bad the Vikings couldn't have jumped 3 slots if they had lost their meaningless game. What did the Eagles do with their draft capital last season? They drafted Jalen Reagor one pick before Justin Jefferson went to the Vikings. Draft capital means nothing if you pick the wrong guys. Capital, as in the three place jump is a high 3rd round pick. Probably more as teams tend to overpay near the top of the draft, especially when teams are trying to trade up for QBs. Call it a 2nd round pick. I think you missed my point. They picked Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson. No I got your point, except it doesn't mean anything besides being an example of distortion. We got lucky with Jefferson. They have had good picks, mediocre picks, and bad picks just like all teams. Not they have the de-facto equivalent of an additional 2nd or 3rd to maneuver with.
