So we gain a 2nd and 3rd by dropping down 3 spots? Yeah right.

I had a similar draft recently. Same top 4 picks and a couple of other guys too.

I don't suppose you saw the video of Mac Jones being interviewed with Dickerson goofing around in the background trying to make Jones mess up?

Pretty funny stuff. Including Dickerson doing extended cartwheels.

Better than the combine for showing his knees are healthy.

If Spielman was just a cunningly smart Machiavellian bastard ...

I could sit anxiously through the draft with some confidence in a larger scheme coming together.

As it is, Spiels has shown no urgency in planning or building a solid OLine.

He has bumped up his game to atleast one OL in the first three rds of the last four drafts BUT he has never drafted two OL in the first three rounds. Never.

Coming away with one of the following players is my expectation. Two would be a very pleasant surprise. Even the last two on the lists, Little and Banks.

Three? I'd be stunned. Kneeling with hands clasped in religious ecstasy. Cousins-like before games, meals and choosing shampoos.

Penei Sewell
Rashawn Slater
Christian Darisaw
Teven Jenkins
Sam Cosmi
Jalen Mayfield
Alex Leatherwood
Liam Eichenberg
Dillon Radunz
Spencer Brown
Walker Little

Alijah Vera-Tucker
Wyatt Davis
Creed Humphrey C/G
Landon Dickerson C/G
Jackson Carman
Trey Smith
Deonte Brown
Ben Cleveland
Kendrick Green
Aaron Banks

During the draft, Spielman is very reactive. The fact that he admitted in the draft 2(?) years ago that several times the player he wanted kept getting taken right before the Vikings pick was an infuriating admission that he does not know how to properly approach the draft. If you want a player, go get him! It would be nice if RS shocked us all, went against character and drafted 2 o-linemen in the first 3 rounds. A vikings draft of Slater or Vera-Tucker in the first and Mond/Mills and Ben Cleveland in the 3rd would be a home run for RS. Which means there's no way it will happen...

That was the O'Neill draft. He acted as if the run on OL was a one in a million thing. Poor excuse for him not having a better understanding of what other teams might do, which is key to getting players you really like and for maximizing draft assets.

Wish GMs had to make public their Top 100 BPA after each draft. Although player performance is affected by coaching, injuries, and schemes, one may be able to deduce general scouting performance over time.

I'm glad we didn't trade for OBJ. And to compare KC, who got to the SB for a second straight year, to the Vikes is not a great choice. We have multiple holes on the oline, need a DE, and have to start planning for life after Harrison Smith. To use the equivalent of the 16th pick and 18-20M in cap space would have been poor team building, imo. When you've got Mahomes, you can make moves like this.

I have plenty of issues with the FO and coaching but hold up this trade as the example, I don't agree with.

Yep!

Targeting the number of prospects you get in a draft hamstrings you automatically from being proactive in moving up very often.

Its a shame: with 2 threes, 4 fours and two fives ... and your Vikings career in the balance ... I would be looking at this as a make or break draft and go after as many 2-3 rd picks as possible. (its too late to generate two 1s this year)

Generating 6th and 7th rders would be the farthest thing from my mind.

I would trade back in the first Thursday and even use picks from 2022 to generate

one 1, two 2s, three 3s ... a once in a 5 year draft heist. (I would repeat it once every five years, only next time with two 1s also).

You then sign the biggest udfa class in the history of the world on Sunday night. And make sure there's plenty of popcorn in the 2022 draft because you only have 3 or 4 picks.

Big deal. even if it backfires and you do a terrible job ... which is likely ... you are at least swinging for the fences instead putting half your draft effort into tweaking the back-end of the roster.

Exactly - I was so frustrated in this draft when we went Hughes in the first round. The top of round 2 was loaded with teams that needed oline. CLE, NYG, IND, CHI, all went IOL. I even thought Denver was going IOL. And none of it was surprising.

RS history is trading down for more and more picks. He's traded up once or twice but most of the time he trades down to add picks.

I would love for him to flip the script this year and trade down once then spend a lot of their 3-5 rd draft capital to move up and make three picks in the first two rounds.

But it will never happen cause trader Rick needs 7th rounders.

Without knowing how good Cleveland is or what our plan for him is. if there is a plan - its impossible to identify or project OL. draft priorities. As if we could anyway.

Spielman spent a 2nd round pick on Cleveland with the idea that he would sit him a year and then replace Reiff (and his salary) with a quality LT on the cheap for 5 years. The fact that Samia is completely unable to play pro football forced Zimmer to play Cleveland out of position for a year instead of sitting him as a backup LT. If RS does not follow through this year and approach the draft with the idea of starting Cleveland at LT, then that is one more botched “effort” by RS to fix our oline and it will prove once again that RS has no actual long-term draft strategy.

pff graded Cleveland in the 80s three years in a row - he's athletic and benched pressed 30 reps of 225....

To recap, Brown ran the 40-yard dash in 5.85 seconds – the slowest of any player at the event. He posted just 14 reps on the bench press. His vertical jump (19.5 inches) and broad jump (82 inches) were also dead last among all prospects.

Yet he 's been a pro bowler 2 of his first 3 seasons.

Would he have been a Pro Bowler with us? His "sacks against" stat would have been different with us. Jackson vrs Cousins.

Still, it would have been a good/great pickup for us. Considering where we are at now.

As a "mobile" QB I was expecting Jackson to have been sacked more that Cousins as mobile QBs usually are. I was surprised to find out that Jackson was sacked 10 times less 29-39. Cousins was sacked more than twice a game last year? I quit watching after about game 5 and was shocked to see this number.

I listen to a lot of talk radio, the Stanford QB would be an interesting pick in the later rounds from what I heard from a few scouts on the radio.

Not going to pretend to know a lot about him but what they said makes sense.

5 star recruit out of HS. High ceiling would be a great pick with our first 3rd rder but we have a black hole on the left side of our oline.

Phil’s draft is just about right on the money. I always look at the draft as “are we better now than we were before the draft?” And with these picks, we are better than before. I hope we get at least one starter on the oline and dline, and get some quality players in later rounds.

It happens every draft.

I'm furious with the ineptitude of the team.

Nothing but four #1 picks will satisfy my draft bloodlust.

Then the week of the draft and I start to quiver with anticipation.

By Monday after the draft I'm stoked for a championship season, like no other team was involved in the draft.

The NFL is worse than the tobacco industry.
