DE

Brad H -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:28:36 PM)

My guess is the Vikings will pick a guy most people have never heard of. An hour later he'll be in the Hall of Fame.

bohumm -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:29:20 PM)

So, Chad Beebe is all that? Bisi? Theilen misses games again and we start who, exactly? But we have that RB4 covered, and 17 DEs.....

Yeah it really does have that feel of late round stabs.

That's because it is late round stabs. Once you hit the fourth or fifth round, it's all about getting lucky with one pick.

The chances of sticking drop down from the 3rd to the 4th, of course. As from every rd.

But there are still some good players, based on tape, production- and consensus opinion, on the 4th rd board.

The RB is a 7th rd pasta noodle flung up against the wall to see what happens in camp.

Running backs are a dime a dozen. Unless you get the one or two guys early, they are just guys. Easiest position on the field to replace after an injury.

Nobody disputes that. That doesn't mean you wave your hand and a decent one magically appears.

You still have to have them. Especially when your starter has an injury history.

Also, backup RB/KR is a little different for a team that sucks in their return game.

Pick up a guy off the scrap heap. There's a million of them.

I actually like Robinson better than the other two 4th rounders.

I had him on my draft challenge picks for awhile but then noticed Brad had him so figured he was a bust.

I took him off. We'll see.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:36:29 PM)

Guess they addressed DE about as well as they could given the other needs and the QB pick. The LB is hopefully all that, but they took DE soon after. And only one DE was picked in between our LB and DE picks. Davis was sandwiched in there too.

Perhaps he can be a fullback that returns kicks....

‘ Nwangwu won’t beg for your attention. While he’s not soft-spoken, he’s certainly not self-aggrandizing. His stats won’t catch your eye, although you wouldn’t say the same of his pro day numbers, particularly an alleged 4.29-second 40. He’s spoken with 13 teams on Zoom calls since his pro day, but he’s happy to let his tape do the talking.

After five years in Ames where he was primarily used as a return specialist, Nwangwu is ready to ply his skills at the next level. It’s not often a special teams star has any realistic NFL dreams. Then again, it’s not often a 6' 1", 210-pound man can outrun and outwork, well, just about everyone.’...sports illustrated

IMO, you should get more points in the challenge on a pick in a later round. Can't believe I got one right. Just throwing junk against the wall at that point.

Brad H -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:40:06 PM)

Time to pick our kicker of the future, Evan McPherson.

David F. -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:40:45 PM)

I just took a peek at the 4th round. Looks like Rick found a way out of the supply closet he was locked in. Geezus man we needed a WR and a safety.

Someone here said Rick announced the CB pick Bynum as a safety.

bohumm -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:43:49 PM)

Hoping a WR is at our level of the scrap heap in the 5th. Disturbed by the lack of established, viable targets in the passing game. TEs flashed last year, but not consistently. WRs beyond the starters were kind of horrible.

Of course you do.

I can't belieive I just gave you free advertising.

Its like complimenting Trump before he speaks and declares it the best most miraculous guess ever in the history of the world.

Did he announce the RB as a WR?

Tom Sykes -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:45:40 PM)

At least guessing Robinson right is legitimate compared to Boehringer.

Viking Rich -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:46:47 PM)

Man, never heard of Janarius Robinson.

But I LOVE his highlights! Dude ran down a RB

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:46:48 PM)

All in all, I think most all the needs were addressed with the exception of WR.

High priority
OL - 2
DE - 2, and now there are like 8 on the roster to battle it out

Medium
QB - groom a project
S - sort of addressed
KR - assuming Nwangku makes it (IMO he will as a hedge against Mattison bolting later)

Lower
LB - mainly the speed aspect

Yes, and the QB is now our punter.

We could do the draft challenge for the next 40 years and nobody would come up with something as good as Boehringer. Straight to the Draft Challenge Hall of Fame. Not even sure I was in the challenge that year.

Vikings trading up

Brad H -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (5/1/2021 12:50:30 PM)

I'd feel far more comfortable going into the season with a legitimate kicker. It's time to find a guy that can kick one in the right area code.

Nor in the first group that called Boehringer.
