At some point in house candidates are going to have to fill holes.

We've added a lot.

Maybe at some point. As of now, the Vikes have about 14 mil in cap space for 2021.

https://overthecap.com/calculator/minnesota-vikings/

I don't know what types of contracts guys like DeCastro, or other unsigned FA will command, but are we in for 2021 or not? If a 1-year deal, and we have the space, don't we want more good players? Otherwise, what was the point of kicking the can down the road on some of these restructures?

I would have more faith in the in-house if there was a better track record with OL.

Guest -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/24/2021 6:51:38 PM)

Unless you’re putting parts of this $14mil cap space into any reworked deals for Harrison, or who knows who? Why not bring in DeCastro at a reduced deal with an injury clause if possible?

The cap is going to explode soon, alas we do have a pretty loaded squad to be hurt by a constant rush up the middle of our line that derailed numerous seasons (2017,2019) when we were actually a very good, complete team.

I love the drafting of Wyatt Davis, but we don’t know if he can play right away, and Cleveland is far far from proven (not to mention Bradbury)

Pull the trigger

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/24/2021 7:12:07 PM)

hunter doesn't give a shit about cap numbers - 'real money' is what he likes...he's become addicted to 'upfront' money via the restructures that we've done with him in the past....

Days of endless posters gnashing, speculating, and psychoanalyzing Hunter's motivation for not showing for some voluntary thing... and the reason was there all along.

Hey Danielle, how are you going to get paid? Straight upfront homie!

David Decastro just got released by the Steelers. Would be a worthwhile pickup - but then what would we do with either Cleveland or Davis?

What if either or both get hurt. Or let Davis marinade on the bench for a season.

Vs being thin on the IOL and having Dozier,Samia,or Cole to play

If he's healthy, absolutely go get him. Wyatt and/or Cleveland can watch and learn. Injuries happen, so be ready.

That said, I'm not sure he's entirely healthy:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/06/24/steelers-release-david-decastro-with-nfi-designation/

I just don't think our O-line is guaranteed to be much better next year as is. Likely downgrade at LT (rookies are rarely 'good' right away), upgrade at LG (same concern about the rookie not being good, but hard to be as bad as Dozier). So then you're relying on improvement from Bradbury and Cleveland. A 2 year disappointment and a guy playing at a spot that's not a natural position for him. OL depth and a 3rd WR are probably our biggest needs.

We could use a pro bowl vet in the oline room.

As constructed this line is really young.

we need another playable guard...don't keep samia or dozier....

You mean offseason bitch fest?

About guns and covid

Lawyers, guns, and COVID
The shit has hit the fan.

Warren Zevon. One of the musical geniuses of our lifetime.

Yup. Him and Yumi Matsutoya.

Do you really believe that Yumi Matsutoya is up there as a musical genius with Warren Zevon or is it just your usual snark. I'm off to check out her music to find out if I'm missing something. Does she do much of anything in English? She sounds OK on first listen. How familiar are you with Warren's music. His most popular song is Werewolves of London, but among his fans his best is probably Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. Lawyers, guns and money has become a part of our language. Sick, Carmelita, Mohammed's radio (backing vocals by Stevie Nicks before she got famous) Keep me in your Heart for a while. Linda Ronstadt made hits out of Warren's Poor Poor Pitiful me and Hasten Down the Wind. This Yumi song is getting bad. I'll try something else. Do you have any recommendations?
Next song was better. Sounded like a 60s pop tune. I didn't notice any genius, but I don't speak Japanese.

$30m over the next eight months and he shows up - coincidence?....

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/24/2021 10:51:22 PM)

.
.
they cut decastro and sign trai turner...I'm not sure how much they saved, but decastro was in the final year of a $50m/5yr deal that i think had been restructured once....

Around The NFL@AroundTheNFL
Steelers sign five-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner (via @RapSheet)

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 7:14:43 AM)

Michael Peterson @ZoneTracks
*If you have a weak stomach, I advise you to look away* #Chargers overall OL grades from PFF in 2020: Sam Tevi - 52.9 Forrest Lamp - 49.4 Dan Feeney - 48.2 Trai Turner - 34.8 Bryan Bulaga - 61.6 Tough to see how the 13th-overall pick isn't going to be used on OL.

Spielman has company as an awful oline talent evaluator

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 7:55:04 AM)

Scratch DeCastro off your wish list. Has a bad ankle and is going in for a 3rd surgery on it. Might retire

Anyone catching up since last night NOT want to punch KG?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 8:04:43 AM)

Thanks for the song recommendation, "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", KGdabom.

I enjoyed the song, and will check out more music from Zevon.

NP Marty. His songs often have a psychotic quality to them. Warren is Letterman's favorite musician and Roland one of his favorite songs. Don't let us get sick and keep me in your heart for awhile are beautiful. Eddie Vedder does keep me in your heart the best, but Warren was dying when he recorded it.

Or just listen to Warren's Excitable Boy album in it's entirety.

Any particular reason for wanting to punch me?
I made one post regarding Yumi Matsutoya (an incredibly popular Japanese artist) in reply to big o. Sorry for the punchable offense.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 8:46:12 AM)

If I had the energy I’d engage in the music discussion with a fervor and then announce that I don’t know who Keith Richards or Michael Jackson is.

Why would you know them? They don't affect you, personally. I like your logic.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 9:03:53 AM)

My history of stud receivers: Carter, Moss, Harvin, Diggs, Jefferson.

Loved em all. Feels like Jefferson might be the 1st that's not hard to love.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 9:06:38 AM)

Is Theilen a stud? Feel I should have included him. He'd only fit into hard to love bc of his politics.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/25/2021 9:10:04 AM)

Could be Jefferson hasn't had the time to let me down.

I want him to be record breaker, leader, the darling of the league. A diva only in fun not with attitude.

I'm not going to connect the dots for you.

I can so picture kg straightening up in his chair, interest charged thinking 'got em right where I want em.'

Bugs me.

Is it because Warren Zevon isn't all that well known? That's why I made my comment about him being a musical genius. I like to spread the word about Warren.

I like finding out about singers I haven't heard of that may be great. I checked out Yumi and so far I'm not going to add her to my musical rotation, but I'll try a few more songs. I don't got anybody right where I want em.
