Cousins has a better arm than Dak, but if it's a close game, and he needs to make quick plays, and some mobility is required, it's more likely Dak would pull out the win than Cousins.

Are you sure now (DAK tore up his ankle pretty good) that Dak has his mobility back? Also Dak hasn't received an extension yet.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 5:19:23 PM)

Another thing on Wilson....he isn't tall. He isn't a pocket passer. His mobility might not be as good as previously thought. 32 years old and Seattle might let him skidaddle.

I still like keeping Cousins and drafting a QB in the first round as a Plan A.

I don't even like Brady but theorize he elevated that whole TB team, just like he did with NE. He was probably a positive influence in the two weeks before the SB, and had the ultimate "been there, done that" stamp. And when it counted, in the big game, he delivered.

The comparison between stat-boy Cousins and Brady is laughable.

He sent his family away for the two weeks prior to this year’s super bowl so he could properly prepare. Yes. Dude’s a stone cold killer.

Interesting. Yes more reports are coming out that Brady is like that.

Cousins would be leading kumbaya songs in the family van after the group chased African Swallowtail butterflies.

I was listening to Mike Green on ESPN radio the other day. He was comparing Cousins with the Cowboys QB (Prescott) saying that there was no comparison. Cousins really is not respected around the league much, is he. I wonder how Cousins would do if he had the Cowboys offensive line.

The Cowboys offensive line? You mean the one from 4-7 years ago? [:-]

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 5:29:26 PM)

COME ON PEOPLE, get out of fantasy land and read up on the 2020s NFL.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 5:36:55 PM)

Retirements, injuries, new coaches.... Then came the 2020 season, where the wheels are off the wagon. Frederick retired before the season, dealing a huge blow to the line. Collins was put on injured reserve before the first game of the season. Smith only played two games. Martin, who had missed two games in his first six seasons, played only 10 games, often playing offensive tackle because of injuries.

Yeah, imagine Cousins behind that line.

Hell of a lot classier than they treated Antoine Winfield Sr that’s for sure

What happened? I must have missed something.

35 years old. Played here 9 years(two nice contracts). Asked him to take pay cut. Cut him. Tried to resign him for less.

Then, more or less, he retired after that.

As I recall, we were willing to pay Winfield around $3M to stay. He decided to sign with Seattle for damn near league minimum. Then they cut him in preseason.

They cut him one hour before free agency started - after the legal tampering window. Winfield's camp maintains that there was no offer for a paycut and that they were expecting business as usual. They pulled him out of his workout at Winter Park to tell him. He was coming off one of his best seasons in his career.

Don't you think that maybe Winfield played hardball and lost. I find it hard to believe that we didn't offer him a chance at a reduced rate.

I wish there would have been some direct quotes from Winfield in your articles. Just an NFL source speaking for Winfield camp.

Not saying it is right. He had a good season and we went to playoffs. Probably thought it was a slap in the face to take a pay cut. And rightfully so.

This. A pay cut is always a slap in the face. But it's also business in the NFL.

No shit. Just like Rudy refused a pay cut. One got a timely release coordinated so he could send out his goodbye letter and have two weeks in a free agent market with almost no other free agents competing and the other got blind sided only after that entire period had expired. Thank you for hammering home my point.

Actually you should thank me for providing a buffer post so you could pretend to have not seen what Mark had to say, with plausible deniability.

Maybe they cut him after they saw him in camp? Maybe they weren't being dicks and saw he had nothing left?

FYI:

2013
Winfield was released by the Minnesota Vikings on March 12, 2013 in a move to clear $7.25 million in salary cap space.

Seattle Seahawks
Winfield signed with the Seattle Seahawks on April 17, 2013 to a one-year, $3 million contract. He was assigned number 21 due to starting fullback Michael Robinson having already been assigned 26 in 2010. He was released from the team during final cuts on August 31, 2013.

Seattle cutting him in final cuts kind of proves what the Vikings point.

I don’t care if Winfield had a leg fall off and he was smearing his own feces on the walls of winter park. The point remains that the vikes released Rudy in a much classier way than Winfield and that point holds. I’m embarrassed for you all that are trying to spin this into something else. Have you no shame?

Pager -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 7:21:42 PM)

I like ESPN's pass blocking win rate. Seems like a good effort to isolate oline play from a QB and how a QB can impact pressures/sacks/etc. Last I saw Vikings were 27th worst, and that's with two above average tackles.

Pager -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 8:01:14 PM)

Kyle's cut save 5M with 4.35 in dead money? We should have waited until after June to spread it out.

What a terrible extension.

Yes, that's the kind of signing we need to do all over the team given the amount of holes we have: CB, OG, DT, S, WR3. But DE is not really a hole, given that Odenigbo should be at least adequate if he's not the best player on the line. But I agree that this is a good signing.

I think it takes the pressure off from needing to select an edge rusher with the first pick.

It's also another example of a defensive lineman wanting coming back to Minnesota. (I'm thinking of Stephen, but also Griffen.) That says something about Patterson, I believe.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/4/2021 1:23:14 PM)

I think it takes the pressure off from needing to select an edge rusher with the first pick.

If the regime was going to go DE with the first pick but signing Weatherly has reduced that need, then all involved should immediately be fired.

He is a journeyman with a known yet limited upside. He could beat out a second year player, which means we'll never know how that player would have fared here.

They have Wonnum, Weatherly, and Hunter plus the other rookie (Wilkes) that didn't play much due to injury plus Brailford (who played well for one or two games).

I am fine with Weatherly over Odin.....maybe it means we are drafting an DT or signining one. Weatherly is still fairly young also.

Exactly. I doubt much of this is guaranteed and gives depth. Great point about other positions, then you can draft BPA. If younger players beat out these low cost 1 year deals, even better.
