Let cousin Lenny handle the interviews in a closed room. Just a chair and baseball bat. See how the candidates fair under pressure.

Anyone read Zimmer's daughters message to fans and "fans".

Just the bestestatest coach in the history of the sport who faced more challenges than anyone only to persevere (2 playoff wins persevering)

Sounds like Phil penned it. All those injuries to 'key' players.

I hope the Vikings already had the next GM in mind. If the GM process drags out it will be too long to name a HC.

Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman were linked by more than wins/losses. The two will forever be tied together in the franchise-altering decision to bring Kirk Cousins to Minnesota in 2018. The Vikings had stability for 8 seasons, but that stability never yielded consistent success.

It never seemed fair to pin the lack of success in 2020/21 on just Zimmer. He coached the roster he was given and it's clear he didn't agree w/ all the personnel decisions made by the front office. We heard it in comments where Zimmer lamented about the team's lack of depth.

It was blatantly obvious how Zimmer felt about the team's decision to draft Kellen Mond from his comments after the GB game and a loud message on his way out of MIN by making Mond and fellow 3rd rounder Wyatt Davis inactive.

There was a lot of good with Zimmer. There was also the bad, like his defense's pitfall to 31st in the NFL in spite of pouring millions into rebuilding that once vaunted unit. The same goes for Spielman, who drafted Jefferson, O'Neill, Hunter, Kendricks, Diggs, etc. He's also

responsible for Kalil, Floyd, Treadwell, Hughes, Bradbury. When writing the full story on all Zimmer and Spielman did since they joined forces in 2014, you have to evaluate the entirety of their body of work, not just the last two seasons. They did a lot of good for this

franchise, but they could never turn the Vikings into legitimate Super Bowl contenders. And the Wilf's were tired of just being relevant and in the conversation. They want to win, and do it consistently.

Good Bye Rick...

The man who coveted trade downs to stockpile 6th and 7th round picks was never shy on making desperation trades...

Rick Spielman and the Vikings sent a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Jets for tight end Chris Herndon (and a 2022 sixth), the move already looks like the latest in a recent string of misguided, panic-induced trades by Minnesota's front office.

Actually when Zimmer was forced to play Vigil and Bynum against LAC it was amazing....Smith Marsette looked good. I just don't know why Zimmer wouldn't use the talent that made it easier to win.

Griffen and Hunter being out didn't stop the sack parade......I saw a team with a lot of depth except at CB and oline. Just poor game planning...we didn't show up right away against Detroit and 3-4 other games...that is the problem.

Wild: Multiple sources believed as recently as early December that Rick Spielman was on track to promotion in the #Vikings org to a senior position that would have placed him between the GM/Coach layer and ownership. Apparently, some of the Zimmer fallout changed that road map.

That could suggest that they've been looking at new GM candidates for at least that long as well. It wouldn't surprise me if they've already talked to some possible GM candidates that expressed reservations about working with Spielman.

Maybe thinking he would be kept on at a more senior level, Spielman was actually assisting in a GM search. Seems like a stretch, but who knows?

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:03:34 PM)

Yea, if your gonna change direction, you don’t keep sea anchors who “ trade down.. “bypassing obvious players of need to collect more picks..

And those contracts.. holy mother of god what a waste of money..

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:08:37 PM)

Trader Rick… look at his idiotic management decisions.. many..

His hits in the draft are pretty good..
But his misses are epically bad..

Just look at players still on the 2022 dead cap list…

No tears from me over his” release”..

55 years.. I’m running out of time..

LOL..

excluding 2021, four out of his last five 1st round picks didn't work out...he does very well in the 2nd round though....

ambear -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:24:49 PM)

When I think of football, I think old school. My earliest memories of football in the late 60's shaped what football meant to me. From sandlot to high school, it was great defenses and smash mouth running. Those days are truly gone. Our next coach and GM need to be innovative and adaptive to the game today. Weird to think that those in charge are the younger generation but that is OK because all life is progress like helmets and face masks back in the day. Embrace the new with a nod and respect for the past.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:28:58 PM)

If you are whiffing in the first round and hitting homers in the second..

Wtf is wrong with you…

The guys you pick in the second… who are studs.. not “ worth “ a first round pick?

Even if you are famous for trading down in the first round..

Still whiffing?

Meh..

His drafting didn’t bother me as much as those contracts…

That was my Spielman has to go…

We are in full on retooling mode..

The only real issues are the contracts, and those players that soooo loved Zimmer, they might also want out…

Rebuild mode activate..

The Happy Norseman -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:42:16 PM)

With the hiring of a new GM I'd put the odds at 80% that Cousins is gone next year. If you're a new GM, are you really going to hitch your wagon to Kirk Cousins? Because after hiring a new coach, that's going to be the biggest decision you make. Cousins will never rework his deal, so the options are to extend him, trade him, or live with him for one year at $45 mil and then move on. My money is on Cousins getting traded.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/10/2022 4:48:37 PM)

21% of the cap…

If I’m the new GM candidate.. I’m so pissed that I’m saddled with having to deal with Spielman’s never ending boat anchor contracts..

Dead Money
Name Cap Number
Kyle Rudolph $2,900,000
Jeff Gladney $2,776,738
Britton Colquitt $716,668
Zach Davidson $226,329
Dru Samia $184,985
TOTAL $6,921,228

Look at this crap!!!

Is Minnesota culture fear based? We have been programed over so many years to expect the worst. I don't think he's wrong.
