ORIGINAL: Tom Sykes Phil Mackey 🎙@PhilMackey 1h On today’s @barstoolsports Pro Football Show, Deion Sanders said he spoke with his friend Mike Zimmer. Said Zimmer & Spielman “hadn’t talked in months… and it was a downward spiral.” He also cited “QB play” as a reason for Zim’s demise Hence the 'collaboration' piece from Mark Wilf. Exactamundo. Just listened to a Thielen podcast ... said the Wilfs got together with the players leadership group on the team and grilled them for their thoughts for what worked and didn't work. And assured them that a collaborative style was key in their candidate search ... Thielen didn't call out anybody by name but gave the example of someone who thought they knew everything about everything and had to have everything done their way - as the example of what didn't work. I'm surprised it took that long to recognize that the GM & Coach aren't communicating and the players input was also being ignored. Seems like the team was a lot more dysfunctional than I realized. This bullshit is on the owners. Hells bells is there any accountability? They extended Zimmer. Based on what. The Wilfs should take a hard look in the mirror. Either that, or they were being completely snowed. For example, if they completely trusted Spielman and only talked to him to get updates on how things were going, but he in turn was lying about that (telling the Wilf's that everything is going fine, etc), then it could explain what happened. Earlier indications that they considered elevating him to some kind of VP position, but ended up firing him instead seems to make this angle more plausible. That doesn't mean that Zimmer wasn't also part of the problem as well - for example, if the Wilf's were asking for his assessment, but he was also saying Yeah, everything is fine, just to avoid the discussion, then it might seem to the owners that the GM and coach were all on the same page, when they weren't at all. This might be a case of the the Wilf's being too trusting of their GM and coach. Well maybe do a no notice inspection like in the military. Land at the airport and bring your people in and find out what's really going on. I mean it's your business for C sake, time to roll up the sleeves and get dirty. Well, technically it's one of their many businesses. Besides, they made out on the stadium, team valuation, etc. "Business" is great!
