I'll say it now, I hope it's DeMarco Ryan as our next coach ...

... and willingly take my lumps if I'm wrong about his success as a head coach

Yes. If he(Ryans) doesn't get hired this year, he will be the #1 guy next year. Don't let him slip away.

Listening to PA and Courtenay Cronin, they say KAM is not a hands on personnel guy(scouting players). Probably going to hire an assistant GM to oversee that.

I like it. More delegation to guys out on the road doing the scouting. Not that Speilman was a Dictator but he probably loved the draft too much and felt he missed out if he didn't move around(trade) a lot.

He came from an economics background. So it makes sense that he’s more of a big picture guy and delegate nuts and bolts scouting. Evaluate needs and tell his personnel guys we need x,y and z for $ dollars. Find them.

The determining factor in Adofo-Mensah's or any GMs success will be his ability to surround himself with good people and then listen to them.

Excited may be a bit strong but very curious about what happens with Cousins

I guess the Vikings go with the analytics geek.

I get analytics in baseball, I don't have a good grasp of how that translates to football which is based on physical matchups and schemes.

He'd be the GM, not a coach.

I know that. So how does a GM use them ?

I assume it isn’t drafting a bunch of workout warriors from the combine that sucked on the field in actual games.

I guess we will find out.

Yea, that’s what statistical analysis is all about..

Limiting you data set to one metric..

Jesus..

Common sense would say, if we hire Ryans, that we hire an OC who will open it up. That's where the talent is.

Give aggressive OC reins to offense. Ryans takes control of defense. Draft probably heavy on defensive side of ball.

I almost think Patterson would be ready to be a DC even just hasn't been given the shot (IF we go OC). Should be a lot of openings on staff....I would assume that all the relatives won't be retained but that would just be guessing.

What’s next for the Vikings?

While some major roster decisions loom in March, Adofo-Mensah will quickly get to work on the biggest question facing the franchise: Who will be the next head coach?

The Vikings have already interviewed eight coaching candidates, in part to appease league rules, but ownership has insisted throughout that they’ll defer to the general manager for thoughts on the next coach.

Adofo-Mensah has connections with two of the candidates the Vikings have already interviewed: 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans and Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell thanks to shared time in San Francisco.

But the search is expected to kick into high gear now that Adofo-Mensah is in place as general manager with additional interview requests going out as soon as tonight. The Vikings could have a new coach in place by the end of next week.

Stats that capture on-field playing ability are an important component of analytics.

Hopefully somewhere in the data stacks of terabyte storage devices there's a note about higher drafted OL having more potential than lower drafted OL.

Higher drafted OL like Kallil, Elflein, Bradbury, ...

What is needed is really good scouting of OL.

O'Neill worked out good. Cleveland isn't terrible. Darrisaw looks legit if he can stay healthy.

Obviously.

Fraziers prevent defense is worse than Zimmers.

Frazier's defense was great all season. McDermott set him up for failure by kicking the ball into the end zone. Gave KC an extra play.

Agreed time management was bad... but you can't give up those 2 plays to set up a field goal with 13 seconds... you have to be a little less SAAWWFFTTT than that.

Like I told my buddy last night; on the second play from the 47 yard-line, just grab every receiver after five yards and tackle them. A pass interference penalty is a spot foul and it would have run the clock down to 3-4 seconds, minimum. KC would have been left two choices, a hail Mary or 60+ yard field goal. I have no idea why these teams don't use the rules to their advantage.

Just a guess on my part, but, couldn't the ref decide that tackling every receiver
constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct and award a 15 yd penalty?

I suggested this defense a couple years ago.

Just rush 2 guys and 9 guys do the holding. 2 guys for almost every receiver. Don't do a blatant tackle. Grab jersey, grab arms, bear hug. 5 yard penalty.

NFL would probably make a rule the following year but it would work that year.

Should have tried that against detroit a couple years back when Zimmer only had 1
guy not even rush, but, just stand at the line to (I really have no clue what he was
doing) spy on Stafford?

I like it. I'm going to use that going forward - "...resist the urge to assume the glass is half empty."

I don't know who said it earlier but I'm ready to swing for the fences this time, too. That goes for a first-time young coach.

We'll be just fine, Rat. If not ... oh well. This has been a exciting few weeks, maybe we should do it more often ;)
