ORIGINAL: ratoppenheimer . . if i'm advising o'connell, kwesi, et al...i have them fly down to where ever mond is and give him a really good look - set up some ball catchers at a local college/high school...it's very possible that he's a better option than anyone in this year's draft, and it would help them decide what they want to do.... I wish I had 25% of your optimism in Mond. we already own his rights...all I'm saying is; let's see what we've got...i just want o'connell to give him a really good look before they decide, not just assume that he won't work.... 71 passing touchdowns 9,991 yards won 3 bowl games senior bowl MVP runs like a deer...22 rushing td's.... give the kid a shot.... I don't think anybody assumes he's no good ... only he wasn't ready last season in a very small sample size. That may or may not be his fault. I was thrilled we took a QB at the top of the 3rd and disappointed he didn't get more game action. We all want to see what we've got in Mond ... but we can't wait until training camp or preseason to pencil in our starter and back-up. Our Starter is at this moment already penciled in. His name is Kirk Cousins...and unless he is traded or retired or the Vikes just eat the cap hit and release him (about as likely as me winning the lottery four times and getting hit by lightning twice) he's our starter. It'd be nice to know of Mond has the ability to be successful at the NFL level. As for the backup....either Mond is ready or we will have to find some journeyman back up. How are we to know if Mond is ready or not, necessitating a backup before the draft, August etc? We can't know, that's my point. Do you really want to wait until August [at the earliest] to find out if Mond is an adequate back-up and, if not, sign a decent back-up at that point? [This is not even addressing our long term prospects if we are not committing to Cousins after 2022] Maybe you'd like to keep Mannionizing our backup QB situation? KAM has a big brain ... I'm sure he could do in a pinch. Maybe, like Spielman, you'd rather not have legitimate competition at the position which could potentially create a fuss ... I'd rather sign and draft legitimate competition for Mond now [before , by or during the draft] ... even if we do plan on keeping ol' Golden Calf Cousins. Flood the position for godsakes ... oops, I was going to move on from all that ... Also ... obviously Cousins is penciled in as the starter today. I am waiting to find out if that holds true for a few more days.
