I didn't find anything recent but I found this quote from Cousins about his approach to contracts in general from Sept 2017:

"I prayed about it, and I do believe that the Lord, at least in my life, likes to use one-year contracts and not long-term contracts. He likes to take me to the edge of the Red Sea and have me see there is water in front of me, there are mountains on either side, and there are Egyptians chasing me from behind. And He wants me to sit there for a moment and go, 'God, You better show up.' And then He parts the Red Sea and He's done that time and again in my life, on the football field and off the football field."

OK wise guy, that's some kind of misdirected link to "The Onion" isn't it!

The following link has video of Cousins' Liberty Convocation speech (14:05)

https://thecomeback.com/nfl/kirk-cousins-says-god-told-him-not-to-sign-long-term-deal-with-redskins.html

14:05 mark of the Cousins Liberty Convocation video.

Here fixed it. https://theonion.com/kirk-cousins-says-god-told-him-not-to-sign-long-term-deal-with-redskins.html

its onion worthy. unfortunately.

Omfg…

I “hope and pray” that Kirk Cousins
1) does not get any kind of extension.
2) is wanted by some team badly enough to offer at least a mid round fitst or early second for him.
3) the only future “ deal” we make with cousins is a “sign and trade”.. to the packers or lions or bears, guaranteeing we will win the division.
4) DOES NOT GET AN EXTENSION FROM THE VIKINGS!!!!

time to move the fuq on from Captain Checkdown.

Amen!

I pray to be rid of the wannabe weiner who doesn't win.

He's neither a winner I can tolerate or a warrior who at least battles.

Done.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/23/2022 7:15:59 AM)

Let's just send Kirk and 15 mil to Carolina.

Take the QB they like best @6 and move on.

So @jzulgad, since we’re scheming together to run Kirk Cousins out of town, what should we put out on the internet for people to freak out about next?
I was thinking possibly “Washington reportedly sent a fax to Vikings about Kirk Cousins”
Should we roll with it?

...and then what do we do with him?...if we go 9-8 and make the playoffs?...or 13-4 and he wants his $40m/yr?....

if we're going to keep cousins on his present deal, then we might as well extend him for two more years....

i vote for trading him, and using the money and draft picks to make the team better...mond in 2022, and if that doesn't look promising we draft a QB in 2023....

we'll never know what mond brings...at least we'll know that much if we trade cousins and give mond the ball for 2022....

To each their own ... I would not criticize someone else's religious beliefs ... or at least I try not to. However, their goofy explanations of a faith-driven financial strategy ...

hard to dismiss.

Sweet fancy moses, if only he had left out the part about the Egyptians chasing him from behind ... now we know why he curls up in a tight pocket.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/23/2022 8:08:37 AM)

I don't like doing this but Zone Coverage has a way to create enough space by adding Void years to Kirk...The Pack is doing it too

The Packers have created $10.892M in 2022 cap space by restructuring the contract of NT Kenny Clark, per source.

Green Bay converted $13.615 of Clark’s 2022 compensation into a signing bonus and added two void years to his deal.

Chipping away to create some space...

I am all for trading Cousins but I don't think we will have a trade partner ... unless the deal includes Cousins + us slapping ourselves in the face several times (ie giving the other team ridiculously good terms and not getting back what we should in return). Which is okay given our cap situation but not how teams should operate.

But trade Cousins only if you have a viable replacement strategy that doesn't include parting the Red Sea ... and please don't offer Mond as a viable alternative.

Otherwise, you might as well bite the bullet, ship out Cook and Thielen as well and walk into 2023 on an 80M spending spree.

Their plan would have the Vikings with $33 million in dead cap in 2025 just from Hunter and Cousins and another $6 million in dead cap in 2026.

Why are so many Vikings fans terrified of having a 6-11 season in 2022 that they'd be willing to sell out an entire upcoming season (2025) so we MIGHT go 9-8 and scratch a playoff berth in 2022?

Is it because so few want to admit that Spielman and Zimmer were horseshit at their jobs? Is is some desperate need to show Kirk is "top ten"? I just don't get it.

New GM and new coach should be looking to clear the deck and start fresh. There's a reason the jobs they got were available and it was because it was a bad team.

Because you either go all in or not...you have owners that are willing to go all in. Some are making it all about Kirk; it isn't.

You don't have to wreck the cap situation just ride it out for 22. The Offense is ready to go. How many years does Cook, Thielen, Smith, Kendricks, Hunter have?
Those are the reasons.

Couple of Tommy tweets:

Tommy Kramer
@Kramer9Tommy
Talked to Wade Phillips today,we are both looking forward to what his son can do for the Vikings. 77’ draft, Bum called me and said he was taking me with the 12 pick, Bud ended up taking me at 27. Later Bum told me, dammit Tommy, upper management wouldn’t let me pull the trigger

Actually the Packers called me and said they were taking me at 28, Bud took me at 27

Cincy caught lightning in a bottle. It's possible with new coaching that we could make a run.

As far as be worried about dead cap $$$ in 2025, let's worry about that in 2025. Cap might be 300M by then.
