Yes Zimmer may have used his fingers and toes to manage the clock

but its odd to me ivy leaguer Kwesi and whiz kid O'Connel are going to have a game management branch of the coaching staff.

But you can't just give credit to Cousins for the positive and dismiss the negative.

Oh yes he can.

Remember, you can treat close losses as potential wins, but you can't treat narrow wins as potential losses.

Of course - that's the way human nature works ...

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/1/2022 8:19:28 PM)

Cousins embodies the Bud Grant philosophy. QB's get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/1/2022 9:08:01 PM)

I agree, TJ

But isn't it a good thing?

Zimmer since the get-go needed one of these guys - I've said it, you said it, we all said it.

I don't see a thing wrong with having someone in your ear, no matter how much experience you've had in any capacity. And this is one area of "coaching" where you not necessarily would of had to even of played the game at any level to understand all the components required to be great.

Kevin O'Connell will have a voice in his headset on Sundays to help guide him on situational decisions.

I actually have no problem with it in theory and yes, we all wanted Zimmer to have someone in his ear helping manage games.

Not sure how it will work, having game managers and coaches all working out the situation / playcall while the clock is running ...

If they can make it work seamlessly ... great!

thebigo -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/1/2022 10:23:51 PM)

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said he's talked to Kirk Cousins and Kirk's agent.

"Those conversations are ongoing...we will do whatever's best for the Minnesota Vikings and Kirk will do what's best for Kirk..."

If you just get a stop on defense both teams get a possession! Go down and score a touchdown on first possession of overtime and you deserve to win! twitter.com/brgridiron/sta…

---

Me: Same rules as before only first TD in regulation gets choice in OT - that'll add a little spice yet be at least as fair as a coin flip

What if regulation score is 2-2?

Doesn't 2-0 win!? I'm not sure but I'd bet $1

Who gets the choice in OT?

I know making a big splash at RG with a name like Scherff would be the preference for #Vikings fans but I think James Daniels is the guy I'd prefer to go after if Kwesi make a move in FA fill RG. He's 24, cheaper and has played well at multiple spots. LG/C/RG flexibility.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2022 2:46:13 AM)

Unless I see significant amounts of cap money freed up in the next 2 weeks, our big splash in free agency is going to be like a toddler boy trying his first standing pee into an adult toilet.. missing everything and pissing on the floor, seat and walls.

Until we get rid of Cousins' contract, we are just rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic.

Again in context Marty keeps saying Kirk isn't clutch...I don't see it. He was clutch most of the year.

I guess it would help us discuss if we knew exactly what was the info that he was looking for and would be given. I'm thinking basic game mgn - "You need a TO out here if XY happen, not so much if Z ... A back up for not screwing up a game before the end of the half/game, etc -

Who gets the choice in OT?

If I'm making the rules, like a TD, a safety also gets ball and of course the win if another follows in OT! Makes sense? Does to me.

Wrestling OT procedures went from another 1-1-1 with 3 coaches deciding which guy worked harder, was more aggressive for the win if tied at the end of OT, to 1 min sudden death on the feet to a 30 second period an escape or ride 'em out wins it if needed, to a total of 7 mini periods if sudden death and 2 more 30 sec periods didn't work - and I could use a refresher on this 'cause I've been out of it for awhile

History has shown that, for the Vikings, versatility on the o line means the guy isn't particularly good at any one position

Scherff is from Northwest Iowa. I was told several years ago by somebody that hunted with him he would be interested in finishing his career close to home.

If he is in a " discount " mode the Vikings would fit the bill for being close to home.

So, recently that analogy would have worked for the Spiels/Zimmer regime, just substitute "old codger" for "toddler boy".

He'd be the Dalvin Tomlinson of OL signings.

He's already costing us $2.9 million against the cap in 2022 so seriously why not bring him in? If we gave him a one-year-deal for $2.9 million would it effectively have no impact on our current cap space?

Don't know how the cap would work there...but quite frankly the team has moved on from Rudy. and they should have. He's a shadow of his former self.
