This is wo purple glasses...

We have receivers (4wr and 2te) ranging from promising up and comers to all pro.

A star RB with capable backups...one who can tilt the field in the return game.

3/5 entrenched starters on OL with the chance to pick up a 4th and hopefully get the 5th to serviceable.

A QB with arm talent.

Top tier talent on all 3 levels of defense with young talent.

A coach (hopefully) that is a winner and gets off to fast starts.

Fresh innovative eyes on draft.

No more MOAP defense.

It's going to be an amazing ride.

Feels too good to be true.

I like offensive head coaches, you can always pick up a DC from the scrape heap of failed head coaches.

Todd M -> RE: Our New Head Coach (2/2/2022 8:12:58 AM)

I was only joking seconds into the projected interview time.

TJSweens -> RE: Our New Head Coach (2/2/2022 8:13:13 AM)

Brad's objections:

He was a Wolverine player and coach, which is an insult to true Gophers fans. No true Gophers fans care, despite his claims.

He hasn't won any significant games. Took over a 6-10 team and took them to 3 straight NFC title gmes and a Superbowl as a NFL head coach.

He is an opportunist who will jump to something bigger. Not an outrageous claim, but consider He is 58 years old and time is running out for a return to the NFL. Baling on the Vikings after one good season won't get him a better job. The only jobs open would be with teams in a worse position.

I have a feeling we will try to pry the NYG Def Cord away; make him an assistant HC. With the way NYG, Miami, etc. are intertwined he might want out of NYG.

None of this has anything to do with loyalty, opportunity or team dynamics. Harbaugh took a pay cut to stay at Michigan and then went out and won a BigTen title. It's all about money, plain and simple.

So Zimmer and Spielman didn't get paid? They all get paid in the NFL; who are we kidding?

IMO, this is nothing more than Jim Harbaugh sticking it to the University of Michigan.

I don't think so...they have the #8 recruiting class but his young, stud Def Coordinator went to the Ravens.

It's also no secret that Harbaugh has always wanted to return to the NFL. At his age, the Vikings would be his last NFL job.

Look I'm not endorsing the guy. I just think you objections are more than a little over the top. I want the Vikings to hire the right guy. I don't know which if any of the 4 finalists is that guy. If one is, I hope they hire him. If that guy is Harbaugh is that guy then so be it.

Tom Sykes -> RE: Our New Head Coach (2/2/2022 8:33:39 AM)

My previous coaching search criteria, before hiring Zimmer, focused on finding an anti-Frazier hard-talking potty mouthed candidate. That didn’t work out.

Today I’m focusing on Division Championships and Super Bowl experience. Hopefully, a better criteria with better results.

So, why didn't he return to the NFL? Because he was reportedly making $8-million at Michigan at one point. Now that he took a pay cut and is making $4-million, he suddenly has a desire to return to the NFL.

If his dream is to get back to the NFL, offer him $2-million and see what he says. That dream will dissipate quickly.

osure -> RE: Our New Head Coach (2/2/2022 9:37:38 AM)

brad h question do you think we will win more games with him or lose more?

Do you think he is more likely to get us to a super bowl or less likely compared to the other options for head coach?

Phil Riewer -> RE: Our New Head Coach (2/2/2022 9:46:23 AM)

Bottom line is Brad doesn't like Jim from when he was at Stanford and beat the piss out of USC...then he went to SF and almost won it all.

True reason Brad doesn't like Harbaugh:
Stanford University (2007–2010)
Harbaugh was named the head football coach at Stanford University in December 2006, replacing Walt Harris. Harbaugh's father, Jack, was Stanford's defensive coordinator from 1980 to 1981, while Harbaugh attended Palo Alto High School, located directly across the street from Stanford Stadium.[103]

Harbaugh at the 2009 "Big Game" vs. rival California at Stanford Stadium
Harbaugh stirred some intra-conference controversy in March 2007, when he was quoted as saying rival USC head coach "Pete Carroll's only got one more year, though. He'll be there one more year. That's what I've heard. I heard it inside the staff." Upon further questions, Harbaugh claimed he had heard it from staff at USC. The comment caused a rebuke from Carroll.[104] (In fact, Carroll would be at USC for three more years.) At the Pacific-10 Conference media day on July 26, 2007, Harbaugh praised the Trojans, stating "There is no question in my mind that USC is the best team in the country and may be the best team in the history of college football." The declaration, especially in light of his earlier comment, garnered more media attention.[105][106] Later in the season, Stanford defeated #1 USC 24–23 with a touchdown in the final minute. With USC being the favorite by 41 points, it was statistically the greatest upset in college football history.[107][108] Although Stanford lost to USC in 2008, Harbaugh and the Stanford Cardinal upset USC at home again with a score of 55–21 on November 14, 2009.[109] Stanford's 55 points was the most ever scored on USC in the Trojans' history until Oregon scored 62 in a 62–51 win over USC on November 3, 2012. It was Pete Carroll's first November loss as USC head coach. After an infamous "What's your deal?" verbal exchange with Carroll following that game, Harbaugh and Carroll would go on to speak favorably about each other as NFL coaches.[110] Harbaugh never lost in USC's home stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

In January 2009, Harbaugh was confirmed to have been interviewed by the New York Jets for the head coach position,[111] although the job was eventually offered to Rex Ryan.[112]

In 2009, the Cardinal had a comeback season, finishing the regular season at 8–4, finishing #21 in the polls, and receiving an invitation to play in the 2009 Sun Bowl, the Cardinal's first bowl appearance since 2001. Running back Toby Gerhart was named a Heisman Trophy finalist, finishing second to Mark Ingram in the closest margin of voting in Heisman history. On December 13, 2009, Harbaugh was rewarded with a three-year contract extension through the 2014 season.[113]

The 2010 season brought more success for Harbaugh and the Cardinal. The team went 11–1 in the regular season, with their only loss coming from Oregon, a team that was undefeated and earned a berth in the BCS National Championship Game. The first 11 win season in program history earned the Cardinal a #4 BCS ranking and a BCS bowl invitation to the Orange Bowl. Stanford defeated Virginia Tech 40–12 for the Cardinal's first bowl win since 1996 and the first BCS bowl victory in program history.[114] Second year starting quarterback Andrew Luck was the runner-up to for the Heisman Trophy, the second year in a row that the runner-up was from Stanford. Harbaugh was named the winner of the Woody Hayes Coach of the Year Award.[115]

The comment caused a rebuke from Carroll.[104] (In fact, Carroll would be at USC for three more years.)
