How about these kick the can down the road moves? Re-do Hunter 4yrs. 84M, 28M Signing bonus, 2M base salary 1st year, 24M base salary on 4th year which we never pay(so basically 3yr. 60M). 9M cap hit this year. Gives us 17M in cap space. Sign Z. Smith and CB Douglas

So I guess if we're going to swallow Hunter's full 19.4M I will put aside my FA addition fantasies. By my count, we've added one FA (Hicks) who will compete for a starter spot and one more that will compete for a spot in a rotation (Phillips). Neither being an improvement over last year. Well looks like this will be Hunters last year with us. Hopefully he plays lights put with and eye on finally breaking the bank and the team eyeing him has 2 2023 1sts on their back pocket. I feel that's the only way we don't live to regret not paying the man.

We won't know until we sort of kind of know.

I wonder if the state of our defense / ability to be competitive [or lack thereof] this year is starting to dawn on the Wilfs. Maybe they should have hired another shmoozer shell game GM type instead of a disciplined numbers guy.

Not even close. (you can also argue that the Vikings think Phillips is better, he got a better deal from us than Pierce got from the Ravens) EDIT: The other argument would be that Phillips is a younger ascending player but please don't go to Phil extremes.

Ben Goessling@BenGoessling A couple things to know about Danielle Hunter’s $18M roster bonus: —While it becomes guaranteed this weekend, he still has to report to training camp on time to earn it. —First $6M paid w/in 10 days of camp report date. —Vikings still have right to convert it to SB at any time .
