LOL I'm chasing you around between this thread and Gen Vikes.

There are strong arguments to both keep and get rid of Hunter.

For my money, trading your best defensive player [when healthy] is even riskier than keeping a guy with two straight years of non-related freak injuries.

We need the cap space, we need the draft capital ... so depending on what we got for Hunter ... I would be ok with it ... but not if we trade Hunter and keep Barr.

I'm guessing / hoping Hunter's injures were one-off deals. Plus they were upper-body unlike Barr's knee condition.

I thought Cousins was the key to this offseason but it seems to be Hunter.

Extending Cousins already makes the off season an F

Keeping older players; Cousins, Thielen and Smith and getting rid of Hunter? We haven't signed any O line yet either. Big fat F so far for 2022, imo. Where's the analytics? Bad value all around.

Have we improved from last year? Are we ready for a Super Bowl run?

I wanted Speilman gone but I now I wish we had him back.

I hate feeling like this because I'm usually overly optimistic.

But we have signed an OL guy. The proverbial 'versatile' C/G. Sort of a downgrade to Cole, but super fresh due to lack of playing time. An assistant manager to the special vice coordinator has ties to him.

Ourlads does a nice job of updating the depth chart. FAs in red, new guys slotted in their estimated depth slot. Conklin & Cole removed. It already has the new OL acquisition - https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/MIN

At CB we have Dantzler, Boyd, Hand, Nickerson.

Minnesota Vikings, the land of opportunity for backups.

They have a trade machine type deal on Spotrac. Everything works because salaries don't have to match up.

Traded Hunter to Dallas for #24, G McGovern, OLB Cox and did a re-structure of Thielen.

We would have around 18M in cap space.

As Ron Wolf said, anyone can kick the can down the road.

Jeff Diamond was great with the cap... until he wasn't and we went into cap hell.

Rob Brzezinski was great with the cap... until he wasn't and we went into cap hell.

Yes but because of the intense shifting dynamic of the league, its never going to be a tidy cap every year. So IMO pushing 6M back from 2022 (no cap space) to 2023 (40-50M cap space) is a necessary evil. At this point in time. I myself would not have done it with Smith ... I would have restructured guys I was committed to for 3-4 years like Kendricks or O'Neill. Or Hunter, which I know not everybody agrees with.

And I would cut off my hand before pushing more than 3-5% of a future cap in dead money (2022 is close to 10% [4M for Rudolph!]).

Hopefully this regime gets in front of the cap and makes more disciplined decisions ...

We are at a point where we had to choose one way or the other. We are choosing to go for it with this roster thinking that the more modern philosophy of this coaching staff can make us a contender.

A total 180 from where I thought KAM would go.

#Bills RFA C/G Ryan Bates is meeting with the #Vikings, per league source.
Bates has a right of first refusal tender, so the Bills wouldn't be compensated if they didn't match an offer sheet by the Vikings or another team.

Keep picking at peripheral guys and work the bottom of the roster and get draft picks.
I have a feeling there isn't going to be a whole lot added via FA this year.
