Agreed. That would be yours and Phil's side. But, I digress. If we're going to keep going in this direction, take it to the politics thread.

There was only one person who took it to that side and it was DL. Just proves the point even more that he said it in the Timberwolves thread...you CANT STOP TALKING about him.

Yell all you want. You're still spewing nonsense.

The Wolves have announced their Statement Edition uniforms.

https://www.nba.com/news/timberwolves-statement-edition-uniforms-2022-23

I give them a C-. Cool color scheme with the green and gray. But I’ve never liked the horizontal line connecting the armpits, whether it’s for standard or alternate uniforms. It’s fine for a fast food employee but it’s antithetical to an NBA player, whose uniform should evoke soaring, flying, or just coolness.

David Levine -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (9/15/2022 6:52:52 PM)

Are the mid thigh green lines supposed to make you think they're wearing 80s era short-shorts?

Why the obsession with lines and stripes?

Not nearly as bad as the "sailor suits", but the green chest stripe and the lines around the thighs are totally superfluous.

Pauldiercks1 -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (9/26/2022 9:17:39 AM)

I am surprised there is not more Wolves Chatter going on with Camp starting? I'm excited to see what the team can do this year.

JonK. Way more at the link:

https://theathletic.com/3616528/2022/09/28/minnesota-timberwolves-jaden-mcdaniels-untouchable/

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz had been going back and forth for a few weeks in June trying to find common ground on a Rudy Gobert trade, and it just wasn’t happening.

The talks had reached such a significant stalemate, sources told The Athletic, that by June 30 the Wolves had turned their attention to other trade partners in search of a big man to help them with rebounding and interior defense. The hang-up? The Jazz were insistent upon Jaden McDaniels being included in any package to get them to part with one of their franchise players. The Wolves, meanwhile, considered McDaniels off limits.

So there sat the biggest blockbuster trade of the summer, teetering on the brink of collapse over a third-year player who last season averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and had one of the highest foul rates in the league. Wolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly had packed his offer to Utah with valuable role players and a jaw-dropping amount of draft capital — four first-round picks and a pick swap — partly in an effort to keep McDaniels out of the deal.

When the trade finally went down on July 1, many in the NBA world fretted about the steep price — three unprotected firsts in 2023, 2025 and 2027 and the top-five protected 2029 pick headed to Utah for a 30-year-old center who isn’t the kind of bucket-getter who traditionally commands a return.

-----------

Boylan also put a lot of emphasis on finding a consistent arc for McDaniels’ jumper. For the Wolves to maximize their new-look starting five with McDaniels at small forward and Gobert at center, they need McDaniels to be a reliable catch-and-shoot guy, both in the corners and above the break. He has shown potential there, hitting 50 percent of his 20 3s in the playoffs against Memphis, including five in Game 6.

The Wolves determined that McDaniels’ optimal shooting arc is 47 degrees. Boylan loaded on his phone HomeCourt, an app developed in part by Steve Nash to track shooting, and used it to record McDaniels’ jumpers. The app calculates the arc on every shot, keeps track of makes and misses and produces video cuts. Boylan sent those to McDaniels after workouts so he could watch himself later in the evening. At the start of the summer, McDaniels was shooting a flatter shot with a 45-degree arc. Three weeks into the workouts, the arc was up to 47 percent, right where they want it.

“He’s really emblematic of what we want the culture to be,” Boylan said. “Competitive, hard-working, high standards. That’s what we want out of our guys and he brings it.”

------------

It starts with his versatility. The BBall Index has tracked more than 2,400 NBA players dating to 2013 and has developed a player evaluation metric called LEBRON that accounts for teammates, opponents and role on the floor. In BBall’s defensive component, there have been only seven seasons for wing stoppers aged 21 or younger who played at least 1,000 minutes to receive grades of A- or higher. McDaniels accounts for two of them.

Last season, McDaniels and Derrick White were the only players in the league, regardless of age, to receive A- or higher grades in both rim protection and on-ball defense. According to BBall’s tracking data, McDaniels most frequently guarded power forwards (24.39 percent of the time), followed by shooting guards (24.04), small forwards (20.87), point guards (19.91) and centers (10.79). He is the youngest player in the database to post a season that versatile while also grading as highly on BBall’s overall defensive impact metric.

Once adjusted for shooter, opponents shot 7.56 percent worse at the rim than expected when McDaniels contested the shot. White was the only wing stopper with a better number, at 7.80 percent.

I would have preferred giving them McDaniels if it meant keeping Kessler and all the draft picks. I would have hated to see him go, but I'd rather have the picks.

So you think Kessler will be ALL-NBA defensively 6 years in a row? That is what Gobert is.

The first move the Twolves made was their biggest Kyle Anderson at 6'9" will probably play back up PG.

Slo-Mo arrives
One day after Kyle Anderson signed a two-year, $18 million contract with the Wolves, the team pulled off the blockbuster trade for Gobert. The timing of that move overshadowed the addition of Anderson, a versatile, intelligent and defensive-minded forward from Memphis.

Anderson met the media for the first time on Monday, comparing these Wolves to the younger Grizzlies team he joined in 2018 that took its lumps early, learned from those defeats and posted the second-best record in the league last season. Anderson got first-hand view of these feisty Wolves in the playoffs and said it was an easy decision when Connelly came calling as free agency opened.

“Knowing the freedom Coach Finch gives his guys to play with and how they all play with confidence and they all play hard, I can really see myself being a part of this,” Anderson said.

He turned 29 last week, but is still one of the oldest players on the team. He said he will welcome being a leader of a young roster, but he prefers to do it by example. He will not be replacing Patrick Beverley’s boisterousness in the locker room.

“I feel when my voice is needed, it will be heard,” Anderson said. “I’m not going to be someone who’s yelling or screaming at guys every day. That’s just not how I operate. But if I do see a situation that needs my input or my help, of course I’m going to speak up.”

His ability to defend, pass, handle the ball and rebound will make him a valuable part of Finch’s rotation. Finch loves Anderson’s resume. He played for Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs for the first four years of his career before spending the last four in Memphis, two of the most reliably competitive in the league in recent years.

“He’s a guy that fits everything we need in our game, defensive presence, IQ, great passer, multiple positions both offensively and defensively, rebounding,” Finch said.

Anderson said he had several teams inquiring about him as the free agent market neared opening, but the Wolves appealed to him thanks in large part to the up close and personal look he got during the Grizzlies’ six-game win in the playoffs.

“Those guys in Minnesota really competed, one through 11, 12, those guys all played really hard,” Anderson said. “You could see the cohesiveness, they played hard for one another. So when it came down to this summer and which team I wanted to sign with, I think this was an easy call.”

David Levine -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (9/29/2022 2:08:54 PM)

I imagine Anderson will have a lot of ballhandling and playmaking responsibilities from his forward positions, but I don't see SloMo playing any actual PG.

Phil I in no way said Kessler would ever be all NBA in any way shape or form. What gave you that Idea? What my comment was if we could have sent McDaniels in the deal and kept all 5 first round picks I would have preferred that.

It's generally accepted that we gave up two extra picks to keep McDaniels.

The odds of getting a player anywhere near as good as McD with late 1st round picks is really, really small.

Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards speaks out on huge body transformation

Last season, Edwards was listed at 225 pounds so presumably he’s up to 235 pounds. Edwards is coming off his second year in the NBA, his best as a pro to date. He put up 21.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from the three-point line.

Edwards had remarked in the past how he’d like to add more muscle and it seems as if this summer he was able to do just that. The added muscle certainly will Edwards in his ability to get to the rim and to get off shots on the wing. Defensively, he’s also able to hold his ground more often against bigger players.

Edwards has also been listed as a shooting guard his first two years in the league but the added muscle gives him a little more versatility in the Minnesota Timberwolves lineup. He can slide over and play some small forward and in the right lineup he may be able to play small-ball power forward as well.

Standing a 6’4, he is giving up height against taller wings but his strength might be able to make up for it. It’s a welcome sign to be sure for the Timberwolves who view Anthony Edwards as one of their franchise cornerstones.

Jace frederick@JaceFrederick
Anthony Edwards only ate fried foods on the weekends this offseason.

And he does not plan to eat fried foods during the season

That's a pretty big dietary alteration as he's looked to get in better shape and put his body in the best position to hold up over 82 games

This report was made using Ant's original draft measurements. Per Ant and he could be embellishing he's 6'6" and 240 before the added muscle. He may have cut some fat while adding the muscle and the net weight may remain the same. I don't believe that image is real.

I never said they would. I just stated my preference. Also there were other players in the deal. It would not have been straight up for McDaniels.

You don't get Gobert otherwise; others wanted him also. Kyle Anderson, Curry and they other two draft picks...we will have plenty of depth.
