Smith doesn't have a great passing QB throwing to him. Remember Moss disappearing in Oakland ?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 11:06:25 AM)

If Moss couldn't get MVP in '98, or any of his other seasons, what makes you think JJ will get MVP ?

It's been QB 14 of the last 15 years, and a WR has never won it. It will probably go to Allen, Mahomes, or another QB.

If Kirk doesn't get MVP, but has a MVP-like season, KOC might get head coach of the year.

So you're not worried about Philly's WRs?

So what's the worry then?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 12:17:54 PM)

The concern is the game is in Philly, Philly just put up 38 points on the road, Smith had zero catches last week (regression to the mean), a mobile QB going against Vikings' new defensive scheme, Kirk on the road on a Monday ....

Other than that, not too much concern.

David

Brown is a good WR, with potential to be great. He has yet to play with a great QB.

Smith is also a good WR, with potential to be great. He didn't have a great complementary WR with him last year (Reagor wasn't cutting it), and he might have that this year. Also Hurts was very inexperienced last year, this year is Hurt's chance to turn it up a notch.

Looking at just highlights from the Eagles/Lions game, it looks like the Eagles OL struggles at times, so hopefully the Vikings can take advantage of that.

Marty, these are your direct quotes from 3 different posts:

"That's 2 great WRs"

"DeVonta Smith is a great WR, and so is AJ Brown"

"Trust me, Smith and Brown are a great #1 and 2 punch"

That's why you get push back. You've even backed way off it in this post I'm responding to.

Bill, are you aware:

(DaVonte);Smith was awarded the Heisman Trophy for his accomplishments alongside several other awards and honors. He was the first wide receiver to win the Heisman since Desmond Howard in 1991 and only the fourth overall. He also won two national championships while at Alabama prior to being selected by the Eagles tenth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Or are you just working overtime to troll me, only to make yourself look stupid ?

Trust me, Smith and Brown are a great #1 and 2 punch, it remains to be seen if their QB will pass more and take advantage and target these guys.

Marty being a Heisman winner doesn't mean squat. He has gotten off to a good NFL start. AJ Brown was quite good, but might not be the same after injuries. I think it's fair to say good WRs. I think it's a big stretch to say great WRs.

Marty you picked up to go 0 - 2 and have done nothing but slober over opposing players.

It's a bad look.

And annoying.

I'm seeing the exact same thing as you Todd. [sm=dillydilly.jpg][sm=ditto.gif]

I'm expecting the Vikings to win this week, but it is at Philly and they are IMO pretty tough. If the Vikings are getting points I'm going to place a bet on us.

Vikes get 1 to 3 points depending on where you bet. Most right now are +2. Earlier in the week it was easier to get +3.

3 would have been awesome. I should have bet earlier. I have a deposit with BetMGM online. I might bet what's called the money line rather than the spread. $100 gets me $110 IIRC. Is that better than getting 1 or 2 points?

I'm well aware of what he did in college. Calling him a "great" WR, when the only evidence so far is 0 catches on 4 targets is premature and off the mark.

I've already said he could break out, as in soon.

Reading for comprehension was never your strong point.

Kirk Cousins for MVP, it all starts with the QB, the team leader.

The CYA post.

LOL. I was thinking of the commercial... he's the little Favre chicken running in circles cackling like mad and we are the John Randle's of the world.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 4:36:59 PM)

$100 gets me $110 IIRC.

Sounds like a thrill.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 5:12:16 PM)

Early betting tended to be on Philly, later betting on Minnesota. I wonder if anything prompted that ?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 5:16:41 PM)

I think I am right that Philly's #1 and #2 WRs are good, and the consensus has me backing off from saying they're great. They haven't achieved greatness, but have the potential to be so.

So we pretty much agree. I hope the Vikings are taking the Philly WRs seriously, while still realizing it all starts with the trigger man, the leader, the QB.

Go with the money line

Wanting the +3 seems to me you think we're going to lose. ;)

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 5:29:46 PM)

This is the classic game we would normally lose. On the road, primetime, outside on grass, probably favored. I think we get it done in a close one. The run d has me a little worried though. Philly has a nice run game. I'm pretty pumped to see how we do on Monday!

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/14/2022 5:31:15 PM)

I see it more like I am the wild dog in the bunch that pushes the boundaries, and the group has reeled me in a little. I admit I was wrong to call the Philly WRs great, they're just good with potential.

The Vikings' WRs #1 and #2 are already great, as long as KOCs system continues to bring out the greatness in Kirk.

The Eagles have 1very good WR. The other one seems slightly above average to me. But who knows he could get going and live up to the hype.
