Nope, add SF to your list Tom. They would overpower us. Ravens, we would have a chance.

No one could know that ... not with this team

Stepping back just a bit, our team is a notch below the better teams. You can choose to ignore it or dismiss it or whatever.

It's a lot of fun seeing us consistently beat other similar or worse teams ... and beat somebody like the Bills that are generally considered better (although that has come down a bit). Our resilience has been awesome and missing for a long time.

But ... is it okay to talk about our chances as something other than just a floaty bird thing with fluffy wings?

GZUZ, its just trying to be honest about competition level and the big picture.

Sure it is! But let me ask you something, is it okay for me to give an opinion about what I think, especially when someone thinks SF is all that? I'm saying, how can you tell what this team is going to do?

Bill basically gave no weight to Todd O's post saying "Pats D had given up 8.6 ppg in their 6 games prior to last night" based on their strength of schedule.

I'm being fluffy because I don't buy into 5-5 SF who's played 8 teams without a winning record to date?

I'll save my negativity for something better than that

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/25/2022 5:04:53 PM)

I think SF could end up taking the NFC.

SF is well coached, was in the SB 3 years ago, has a strong defense, Deebo is a stud, and McCaffrey is a huge pickup. They're hard to defend with their quick passing game, and guys that make plays after the catch (look what Pollard did to the Vikings).

But keep the game close, and the Vikings can beat them, especially if the Vikings are underdogs.

Lions (the early Oct version)
@ Browns
Bears
@ Jets
Colts
Jets

No Greatest Show on Turf teams there.

quote:

Sure, but they do average 21.6 ppg collectively, that would be more like 23 ppg if you don't include the NE games

Before that,
Ravens 37pts
@ Packers 27 points

That would be the late Sept early Oct version of the Pats

Dismissing an opinion with 'who knows' or 'you don't know that' is not offering an opinion. It's just saying what goes without saying.

At least Bill answered Todd with a legitimate rebuttal. You might not think the response 'gave weight' because its not in your negativity-protected happy place ... but at least Bill researched his answer. Kind of like if I pointed out the 49ers are 6-4, not 5-5.

Offering the lamest asininish cockamamiest kookiest most-harebrainiest opinion - as I often do - AND THEN adding 'but who knows ..' is at least something.

"You don't know that' by itself ... not a lot of anything. IMO.

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/25/2022 8:50:39 PM)

Vikes need to somewhat blow it up next year.

Get rid of Cook, Kendricks, and Harrison Smith.

Restructure Thielen.

Draft WR, CB, DT, LB, S, QB?

Anyone else notice how Cook seems less elusive than in the past?

That pass out in the flat around the NE 10-15 yard line where he had space would normally have been a TD. Instead he looked like Rudy and was tackled by the first defender.

I responded to ‘you dont know that’ … you can backfill that comment after the fact with all the argument you want. My reaction or over-reaction was based on you and Todd dissmissing an argument simply because it wasn’t positive.

Actually, I should probably take this as a compliment someone is going to insult me because I'm being positive.

What you probably don't know:

I didn't know the context of the post - still don't. And my thoughts were as I wrote it, not the fact that you can't possibly know it, it was the type of team we have is so unpredictable how can you be so cock sure someone is going to "over power us." You can't!!!

I went to the Dallas game. Least amount of words I've spoken and emotion I've had in a stadium in my life. Went to TalkVikes, too much negativity and didn't want to deal with it, so I said to myself, "F it, I ain't coming back until they win." And I didn't.

Funny thing is, I was going to try and 'be good' and stay out of trouble - not easy for me to do

Fact: in no way was I dismissing someone or even having bad vibes about someone because they think SF is that much better than the Vikes. You totally misread me on that one. True story and I'm sticking t it. Actually, I'm the opp. I think Balt would have an easier time beating us than SF

Just spitballing cuz I didn't research when we couldn't get the next play off in time but I know one was after a deep pass to JJ. Most teams have trouble getting the next play ran in time due to players celebrating and then being tired and just stroll down the field and precious seconds tick off.

He started the game out that way. I'm not sure it's noise - which it could be for sure - or if he just does it all the time.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/26/2022 9:36:40 AM)

I'm enjoying how resiliant this team is becoming under KOC. They have battled back within games all year, but the Patriots game was another level. Against Dallas, they got punched in the mouth hard. Getting a bubble burst to that degree can send a team into a tailspin. The Vikings came back the next week and beat a tough opponent. I credit KOC and his culture for a lot of it. The vibe is a lot more positive. We don't have a coach calling his team soft after a loss. Cousins seems more part of it with teammates getting him to loosen up. The coach has made him the man in charge on the field.

Just a good vibe. I'm really enjoying it.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/26/2022 9:57:38 AM)

I should clarify about my SF opinion. We can beat anyone when we are on. We just suck against “power” teams and that’s what I see them as. We really struggle with teams that are great in the trenches. We have as much firepower as anyone but if we get no time we are screwed.

I’ve been more supportive on Cousins than most but lets be honest. When he gets off his axis he’s not very good. And don’t even get me started on the D. They are just old and soft as hell.

Yes one of those plays occurred after what I think was a 36 yard pass. Not 60 or 80 yards. Shit, what would they do if Moss was on the team catching bombs.

With KOC spouting War & Peace every play, they have time to stroll 30 yards (huddling behind the LOS).

I was at the game. He did a little too much dancing and just needed to go North and South against that defense.

But, his pass blocking is exceptional and is big part of why Judon and Co. didn't harass Cousins all that much.
