I have a feeling Hooker will still be around in the 2nd round, and the Vikings will take him with their pick from trading down their 1st rounder.

I am going to make that prediction in the draft predictions challenge, hoping it won't happen. I would be ok with taking a flyer on Hooker in the 3rd round or later.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/11/2023 4:42:08 PM)

Take a late round flyer on Stetson Bennett IV. Icewater coolness in the run to two national championship wins. Replace Mullens.

Some other late round prospects (per SBNation; Stetson went in the 5th and Duggan in the 6th):

Seventh round (The Brock Purdy round)
224. Atlanta Falcons, Aidan O’Connell, Purdue

Desmond Ridder gets a potential backup ... or a competitor.

232. Green Bay Packers, Clayton Tune, Houston:

There’s some intangibles here to like —experience, production, leadership. Tune would be a little Jordan Love insurance in the post-Aaron Rodgers world.

233. Washington Commanders, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, UCLA:

Washington is far from set at this position. Thompson-Robinson is worth the late lottery ticket and to keep him from the undrafted free-agent market.

Watching some DTR highlights, looks like a poor man's Jalen Hurts. Arm strength is iffy.

I say draft Hooker and DTR.

Vikings listed as a possible landing spot for this 25 year old LBer:

There is a crazy amount of stuff on DTR here - including video of every pass he threw this season:

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/12/2023 7:10:25 PM)

DTR looks great on highlights. Throws with touch, throws with velocity, is quick to react to pressure, see things quickly, makes great throws on the run, etc ....

Wish he was 2 inches taller than 6'1", and wonder if he has enough arm strength. Worth a shot as a 3rd rounder, maybe even 2nd after trading down with the 23rd pick.

I like the move he makes at 3:56:

I say no to the Hooker, and yes to DTR.

Do both.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/14/2023 11:35:15 AM)

Because we have draft choices to spare.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/14/2023 12:29:29 PM)

I mean ... shewt ...

in 2012 WASH drafted RGIII in the first and Cousins in the 4th

look how well that worked out for them ...

DOH!

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 9:17:47 AM)

Vikes can do similar to Washington, trade up for Anthony Richardson, and select DTR in the 4th round.

They both turn out to be studs, and you trade the lesser in 3 years, for a 1st and 3rd round pick.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 10:54:19 AM)

“Vikings DE Danielle Hunter is not expected to attend the start of Minnesota’s voluntary offseason program, per sources. The absence is likely due to his contract — he’s set to make $4.9M in the last year of his deal, well below market for a three-time Pro Bowler.”

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 11:40:12 AM)

Pay the man

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 12:17:15 PM)

Just looked up Hunter's contract. Gross. 5 years and $72 million which wasn't even stellar at the time of signing. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/danielle-hunter-16812/ He currently ranks 21st in average contract value per year. This is an embarrassment. The cherry on top is that (of course) he has $11.2 million in void years. The guy has done nothing but produce for us. Give him a new deal or trade him.

a third-round pick, hunter received a signing bonus and signed a new deal after his third year - $17.4mm...also, hunter always received his money up front - never had to wait to get paid....

danielle hunter has always been a gentleman about his financial dealings with the vikings - he read the language and signed the contract....

I always side with the player. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or a weird thing.

That's an oversimplification. We all know that teams will cut a player for a financial advantage. Why is no one quoting old-fashioned ethics to the teams at each cut? You put yer signature on that there piece of paper and yer word is yer bond. When it was Adam Thielen they had no problem re-doing his contract to an amount that more closely matched his value.

And yet ... you're one of Cousins biggest supporters in here ...

the guy who has financially screwed this team over more than any other.

Go figure.

to the best of my knowledge, the vikings have followed their signed contractual agreements with their players...you're beef sounds like you're real issue is with the cba...you should be bitching to the NFL players union - they designed these deals....

regarding thielen's extensions, he didn't sit out two consecutive years with different injuries...they had to see what hunter had left in his body - it was the responsible thing to do - if you were paying danielle you'd probably see it differently....

i'd like to see the vikings give him an extension, and they most likely will....

Kwesi continues shopping for players in the hospital

Another Kwesi injury special.

Aug 16, 2022 - "Fourth-year corner Joejuan Williams has suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. ... Williams was a long shot to see significant playing time this season in a crowded cornerback room featuring Jalen Mills, Malcolm Butler, Terrance Mitchell, Jonathan Jones, Shaun Wade and rookies Marcus Jones and Jack Jones ... New England's second-round pick (45th overall) out of Vanderbilt in the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams has failed to make an impact, appearing in just 36 games over three seasons with 44 career tackles and no interceptions."

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 1:09:22 PM)

Just a body. Albeit a 6-3 211 dude.

Essentially like having a late rd CB pick for us who may or may not stick.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/17/2023 1:15:25 PM)

A more positive spin:

"There's some potential upside here with Williams, a former second-rounder who is still just 25 years old. He has excellent size at 6'3", 211 pounds with 32.5-inch arms. Williams also scored very well in the bench press, broad jump, and short shuttle tests at the 2019 combine, though his 4.64 40 time isn't pretty. Williams has a decent amount of NFL experience and it's possible his best football could still be ahead of him if he can stay healthy in 2023. He'll need to impress this offseason and in training camp to make the roster and potentially earn playing time.

Williams should have familiarity with the Vikings' defense under Brian Flores, as Flores spent over a decade under Bill Belichick with the Patriots before becoming the Dolphins' head coach the year Williams was drafted."
