Lynn G. -> Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/3/2023 1:04:32 PM)

It's almost spring! Time to start a new thread for a new season. Go Twins!

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/4/2023 10:02:04 AM)

Every team's projected HR leader.

https://www.mlb.com/news/2023-team-home-run-leader-projections

Twins: Byron Buxton (32)

Buxton played just 92 games last season and still led the Twins with 28 home runs. It’s safe to say that, should he get a full healthy 2023 campaign, he’s pretty likely to do it again.

Keep an eye on … Joey Gallo (20): He’s coming off a season he’d rather forget, but Gallo is just 29 -- so there’s no real reason he couldn’t get back to his 40-homer glory in Minnesota.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/4/2023 5:45:36 PM)

10 years ago the Twins headed into spring training with a starting staff of Kevin Correia, Mike Pelfrey, Vance Worley, Scott Diamond & Pedro Hernandez.

Twins resign Sanchez to minor league deal

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/4/2023 8:16:26 PM)

Aaron Sanchez. At age 23 he was an all star with a 15-2 record and led the AL with an era of 3.00. By age 26 his career had gone over a cliff.

You are the most negative person I've ever known.

Just stating a fact Pollyanna. He started out like the next big thing and somehow it all fell apart.

He looked better than Bundy and and Archer which isn't saying much but a nice guy to have for emergency starts and throw 30-35 innings.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-teams-most-likely-to-improve-in-2023

Minnesota Twins are one of the 5 teams most likely to improve in 2023.

Twins
2022 record: 78-84

Would the Twins have been appreciably better than last year if they hadn’t re-signed Carlos Correa? A lot of people would have still picked them to win more than 78 games, one suspects. But with Correa back? And with López atop that rotation? That’s not to mention Joey Gallo feeling like a perfect fit here and Byron Buxton (fingers crossed!) looking healthy and ready to go. The Guardians look like they’re just as good as they were last year -- no better, no worse -- the White Sox are just trying to recover from last year’s letdown, and the Tigers and Royals -- well, they’ve still got a ways to go. The Twins, by bringing back Correa, have made it clear that they plan on competing for American League Central titles for at least the next half-decade. That might be a big ask. But winning more than 78 games shouldn’t be.

I'm on board.

I know we re-signed Pagan but Bullpen should be a strength if we don't overuse guys.

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/6/2023 10:34:12 PM)

No one cringed more than me when Pagan came in when we had a lead last year.

Hst, does anyone think he ll have a realistic shot at a 3.83 era next year? - his career avg

You have Ober and Winder plus Alcala hopefully healthy. That is three more arms in the pen.

I wouldn't be surprised if Winder and Ober start the year in the Twins bullpen instead of AAA. Rockhead likes relievers who can go multiple innings, so he can pull starters after 4 innings.

Not having Duffey around probably increases our win outlook by 5......not using Pagan as closer probably another 6. I guess I am at about 90 wins.

Ober has nothing more to prove in the minors. He’s shown for two partial seasons that he is major league ready. He’s 26. His time is now. I agree, If there’s no room for him in the starting rotation, make him a ‘4th or 5th inning starter’ when the starter is exhausted after 70 pitches. We apparently need guys like that.

Yep, the days when starting pitchers were men are over.

More balanced schedule

Offense that is stagnant too often

Rockhead managing the staff and bullpen by iPad

85

maybe

under 500 should be automatic firing

9 games since 2019

Don't expect much

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/9/2023 10:21:31 AM)

Days are winding down to ST. Any more deals?

Gonna HOPE Kepler gets 2 more hits a month with no shift?

Gonna HOPE that somehow giving up Gio wasn't a disaster? Who's the RH hitting outfielder? Garlick? Others have to go to the minors then.

Not a case of "too many good players". More like too many average guys with a lot to prove.

Taylor shouldn't be an every day OF and will wind up being one. Buxton will get hurt no matter what he does, DH or CF.

THEN WHAT

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/11/2023 1:25:59 PM)

What about Luke Voit? He seems like the kind of reclamation project the Twins like to sign.

Twins with the 6th best offseason. Read it and weep.
