A guy who hit .209 with a. 622 OPS is being classified as an offensive addition? I guess if I was a Texas fan, I would be offended.

Well, I've heard he draws a lot of walks.

Which, to some, is better than actually contributing offensively

That is contributing offensively - better than walking back to the bench with a K. Being selective with pitches is a skill many wish they were better at

Walks or no walks, a .622 OPS is. a shitty offensive player.

Sure is. I'm not a fan of his stats - just not taking lightly the ability to work a count, draw a walk if that's what you've got

Wouldn't it of been nice to see Sano walk to first a few of those times instead of flailing away at down-and-away

Almost bordering the conversation of Walk versus getting a hit....offensive.

Having a good eye at the plate isnt about going up there for a walk - at least imo. Dont let Moneyball or ego inflluence what you think about getting a walk.

Has anyone seen Ricky and me in a room together?

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/27/2023 5:43:05 PM)

Twins lost to Boston 4-1

New Lopez 3 K/2H in 2 innings
Woods-Richardson gave up 2 runs. One of them on a sac fly to the track in CF , the runner scored from second.

Kepler led off had a double and single

several starters yet to play in an official ST game at Camp Soft.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/28/2023 9:40:56 AM)

Here's our darkhorse to make the opening day roster.

Twins: RHP Cole Sands

With Rocco Baldelli at the helm for the Twins, it’s a decent bet that he’ll look to carry a bulk reliever -- a flex starter who can throw 50-75 pitches out of the bullpen when needed. That roster spot is usually a revolving door, and of the group of players this season who could fit that mold, both Ronny Henriquez and Josh Winder are tracking behind in health. That could open the door for Sands, who was the No. 24 prospect in the organization last season per MLB Pipeline.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (2/28/2023 5:12:10 PM)

Twins win over Atlanta 10-7. 4 run first, 5 run third

Julien hit 2 homers/4RBI, Castro a 3 run hr, and Lee with 2 hits and a RBI

Twins had 3 errors leading to 2 unearned runs

Mahle 2 hits in an inning, Ani Sanchez still cooked 3 urns in an inning, De Leon 2 runs in 1.2IP

Another lots of guys that won't go north in the lineup. They conned MLB they had so many starters in the order.d

BS

Miranda
Vazquez

the only 2 that should start opening day, let alone make the roster.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/2/2023 8:21:04 PM)

They won at the trop
Maeda was ok
Dobnak 4H/R/in 2 innings

Scored 3 in top of 9 to triumph

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/4/2023 6:47:46 AM)

Pagan in mid season form. He gave up a grand slam in his inning to salt the game away for the Red Sux.

Jeff Allen -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/4/2023 2:32:57 PM)

Will Smith signs for $1.5 million...Brad Hand for $2 million. What are the Twins thinking here? Roll with Thielbar and Pagan???

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/4/2023 8:01:32 PM)

I didn't realize Hedley LaMarre was back for a 3rd stint with the Twins.

It forces pitchers to pitch to you.

The "depth" they're playing in these games is embarrassing.

Can someone explain to me when it became normal to not play regulars in ANY games for a couple two/three weeks of the beginning of Spring Training? This is ridiculous.

They have stretched the meaning of "regulars" to MLB

And it is ridiculous.

I am getting a feeling Matt is making time to watch them over noon hour or in Fort Myers.

I watch the pitchers more than the hitters during ST. Martin has a sprained UCL now. UUGH

I'm thinking I'm not going to like watching a shot clock while watching baseball games. That's a pretty big change for someone who started watching baseball in the 60s

I agree. It seems way too rushed. 25 or 30 seconds would feel better to the viewer. At least give me time to think through strategy and guess what the pitcher or hitter may be thinking on the next pitch. Hitter has to be set with 8 seconds left? I've barely watched any ST games yet, and I've still seen several instances of hitters getting called for a strike or pitchers called for a ball because they were like a half second "late" according to the ump. This is not sustainable.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/7/2023 11:40:53 AM)

2 1/2 hour games...me likey. Perfect.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/7/2023 6:06:43 PM)

The Twins' deal with Bally Sports was set to expire after the 2023 season and the team was looking into alternatives anyway with the death of cable and Bally Sports not playing nice with YouTube and Hulu. They’re prepared for whatever comes next. This should end with the Twins being more accessible on TV.
