Dumb baseball

Lollipop curve when you are throwing 102.

Slow catcher trying to stretch double into triple.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/11/2023 9:05:42 PM)

Twins win!!!

Worst win ever. Man, I despise extra innings now. It actually ANGERS me how we "won" that game. And if it doesn't piss you off too, you are not a baseball fan.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/11/2023 9:26:53 PM)

Extra innings is so stupid now. I'm emailing Dave St Peter that it pisses me off and nobody I know likes it, so DO SOMETHING to get it back to normal. If games are 2 hours and 20 minutes now, who cares if you keep playing "baseball" in extras???? Because, let's be honest, extra innings right now is not actually baseball. We won by scoring a fake runner from 2nd base on a bunt when a decent throw hit the runner/bunter on the helmet. Next to no satisfaction for an actual baseball fan.

I always enjoy beating the Flags!

MLB:
2nd in ERA
4th in SO

If those numbers keep up they'll win well over 70 games.

If they only play the Royals and Marlins they have a shot.

Exactly. Unwatchable. I feel the same way about a hockey shootout.

Arraez has 22 hits for the season. The Twins have 86. [&:]

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 8:30:28 AM)

Arraez' league ranking. As in, everyone in the entire league.

BA #1
WAR, #1
OB%, #1
OPS, #3
SLG, #5

ZERO errors in the field.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 8:33:21 AM)

Rays are 11-0.

I'm surprised to hear the longest winning streak to begin a season in MLB history is only 13. Would have guessed it to be closer to the all-time loss streak to start a season, which was 21 by the 1988 Orioles.

You get that they have only played 12 games, right?

Yep. Just like everybody else in the league.

The bottom line is, the Twins got rid of one of the best hitters in baseball for a guy that pitches once every five days (with a .500 lifetime record).

One of the higher average hitters in baseball. On an OPS basis, Arraez was #42 last year. Lopez's W/L is a product of pitching for lousy teams.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 10:17:28 AM)

Lopez didn't get the win last night. That should blow Brad's view on wins totally out of the water.

Yep. 7 2/3 innings of 2 run ball with 10 K's and Rocco pulled him because he was about to hit 100 pitches.

He was outstanding last night. So was Arraez. Hitting for the cycle would be the more impressive of the two though.
Time will tell. I hope they both stay healthy.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 12:09:23 PM)

Carew was a great hitter and an average fielder. Arraez is a very good hitter with the chance to become great but is not even a good fielder.

Carew was on some great teams with Killebrew and Oliva. But the early Carew teams had some great pitchers including Kaat, Perry and Blyleven.

When Carew won the MVP in 1977, Blyleven was gone and the staff consisted of:
Tom Burgmeier, Bill Butler, Carrithers, Dave Goltz, Jeff Holly, Jim Hughes, Dave Johnson, Tom Johnson, Mike Pazik,
Pete Redfern, Ron Schueler, Gary Serum, Jim Shellenback, Paul Thormodsgard, Geoff Zahn

Baseball is a game where pitching is still at the heart of the game.

The argument that a starter pitches every 5th game and a position player is in every game:
The pitcher throws every pitch when playing and the pitcher's team is fielding. The position player, unless the catcher, is not involved with every pitch.
The batter gets to the plate 4 times a game.......not 9 times or every inning.

An argument that a pitcher pitches only every 5th game is typically provided by people who know nothing about the game and most likely never played competitively.

Like the movie the Natural: Roy Hobbs to Max Mercy, Did you ever play the game?
No, no I didn't. But I think I make it more interesting because of my stories.

I have hated the extra inning rules since they instigated them.

That being said. I am never angry about a win.

I'm built different.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 2:22:02 PM)

Buxton out of the game. Hurt himself on the basepaths.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 2:29:04 PM)

Just saw that Arraez has 10 hits in his last 14 at bats. Impressive!!

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 3:18:52 PM)

So here we are 12 games into the season and the IL is filling up fast.

Started the season with Polanco and Kiriloff already there.
Plus a pitcher or two still rehabbing last seasons injuries.
Kepler and Gallo have now joined them
After today's game i wouldn't be surprised to see Farmer added as well after he was beaned in the face.
Captain Ouchypants went down hard this game too...
and Carlos Correa hasn't played a game since Sunday

Dropping like flies they are.

Injuries and Emilio Pagan derailed this team last year. And here we go with this year....

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 3:24:09 PM)

Farmer gets beaned in face. Hurt real bad.

Buxton: Hold my beer

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/12/2023 4:13:27 PM)

I think Farmer is gonna be out for a long while after that one. OUCH!! He's undergoing surgery.
