Another pathetic offensive effort. Poppins needs to go.
Jax has been terrible of late.
Pen is and will continue to be their albatross.if

It's like Ed said, Jax has fallen in love with his slider. It's not a pitch you throw 60% of the time, yet he does anyway. Alcala has been inconsistent in his return. It may take some time to get it back.

Overreliance on a slider is the sign of an injury.

No it isn't.

Gallo just pulled a hammy. That'll be a month.

Yes it is. They think they are hiding the injury from management, so throwing sliders doesn't have an emphasis on decreased velocity.

Taylor has some surprisingly good pop.

No it isn't. The slider is the most stressful pitch on the arm. They aren't going to deal with arm pain by throwing the pitch that causes the most arm pain.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/14/2023 4:44:41 PM)

Twins with a 16-3 win. Gallo and Larnach homered. Correa continues to break out of his slump. Kirilloff continues to hit in his return with 2 more today. Louie Varland pitched 6.1 innings and gave up 3 runs.

Winder has pitched 6 innings in AAA and will probably go back on the IL with shoulder strain before he gets called up again.

5 hits 7 runs in an inning in STP today for Winder. Nearing the end of the line again.

Twins got pissed off sucking? or Cubs that bad? or both?

Hitting is coming around I think. Stroman cam into the game with an era around 1.5 and they pounded him. Kirilloff really helps and Correa seems to have broken his slump.

I don’t care if he ends up batting .130. I need a Joey Gallo jersey..

Gallo is what Sano could have been with a modicum of discipline. Gallo doesn't chase crap that's a foot off the plate. As a result his OBP is about 130 points higher than his average. You live with the strike outs becaus he will get on base, hit big HR and play great defense at multiple positions.

Wrong...Gallo wanted to stay in.....Rocco says he is playing tonight. Seems like someone wanted Grossman instead.

Great to see Marney Gellner, having just received a breast cancer-free diagnosis, in the booth yesterday.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/15/2023 7:37:00 PM)

After 2-6 weekend, Lewis was bumped to AAA

0-3
2-3
1 rainout
2 stolen bases and a double

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/15/2023 9:29:54 PM)

Lopez ERA. now at approaching 4.00 still pitching in the 1st!
Back to back dingers.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/16/2023 7:34:24 AM)

2-2 with a 4.00 ERA

or

.382 BA, .437 OB%, with only nine K's in 136 AB

Which would you rather have?

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/16/2023 7:39:42 AM)

Joey Gallo has had 9 good at-bats this season. Every 1-in-11 times at the plate he gives you something to cheer about.

Have fun with that. I'm not spending any more money to see a guy bat around the Mendoza Line. He's making $11-million to bat .202. The Twins would be better off giving $11-million back to the city to house the homeless and make the neighborhood look better.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/16/2023 8:59:11 AM)

Apparently Gallo only has a good at bat if he hits a home run. Silly me, I thought any time you got on base was a successful AB. Gallo also has 6 doubles and a triple, but I guess those don't count. Despite the low average, his OBP is .318 to go with a SLG/OPS of .564 and .882.

Yeah, he only does something good once every 11 AB. [&o]

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/16/2023 10:33:56 AM)

We really did lose because of terrible umpiring last night.

Without Arraez, Miami probably has the fewest runs scored in all of baseball...

Twins without Arraez 4.67 runs per game, '12 in MLB

Marlins WITH Arraez 3.44 runs per game, # 30 in MLB.

He's second on the team in OPS behind only Kiriloff (small sample size). But Okay.

Arraez: 37 Games. 14 Runs, 14 RBI.
Gallo: 32 Games: 17 Runs, 21 RBI.

Which guy is having a bigger impact?
