Too bad. Mahle was pretty solid. Looks like Ober is up for the long haul.

Shocker. I knew he'd be done for the season.

Well that went south quickly.

But when they said rest for short while and the description of the injury and the rapid move the 60 day IL...Well the writing was on the wall for this to be coming.

Good thing we have more depth this year.

Frankly, I.m surprised they aren't amputating.

Ober up for the long haul appears to be a very good thing....

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/11/2023 12:40:10 PM)

So Mahle and Paddack were both damaged goods in trades with Cincinnati and San Diego.
As was Pagan......not injured but a minor league arm/or head that Falvine gave an extension.
These two really know their pitching.

How they stumbled onto Lopez ........yeah....they traded away a very good hitter for a very good pitcher.

This is their 7th(?) year in charge. Zero Playoff wins and two division titles (one in a year where we lost 100 games to COVID).

So what has changed over the past 30 years? We still top out at "Just good enough to win a really bad division, and then get slaughtered by whoever we play in the postseason".

How is there not more heat on the Google Boys? Is there just that much apathy towards the team?

I think the Sonny Gray trade was ok; Taylor for Paddack and Pagan a wash, Mahle trade looking horrible. Lopez trade looking like a wash but we also got 2 pretty good prospects.

They have drafted better hitters that have turned into tradeable pieces for Pitching.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/11/2023 4:03:06 PM)

OK. We did just take 2 of three from the Padres this week...

Considering that lineup...that's not a bad accomplishment.

DL you are so spot on

As long as the $$$ flows at Target Field, zero pressure to win. And that's pathetic

This IS the best rotation they've had in decades, top to bottom

Without offensive consistency they'll just be an early out

IF they get to the playoffs

yes it is

the bullpen teeters on the edge of trouble. Stewart is doing ok

Jax sucks
They're all too in love with his slider. over used way too much. He's like that guy they had a few years ago that threw almost all sliders.
Crazy to say, Pagan has done enough of late.
I think the rest are stinking it up to make him look good for his boyfriend manager [;)]

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/11/2023 6:18:04 PM)

I'm surprised by people here upset with the booing of Corrrea.
Hit 190 in NY on his salary and see how fans respond. MN athletes have a pretty cushy gig in MN

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/11/2023 6:57:34 PM)

Who cares about Mahle? Ober is better anyway.

I care because he was much better than Maeda. Ober and Mahle to round out the 4 & 5 spots in the rotation is better than Ober and Maeda. I'll be real surprised if Kenta spends much time in the rotation. We are probably going to need one of Varland, Woods-Richardson or Winder to come through.

I'm not upset by it. I'm just surprised that it hasn't played out by now. The scandal was a few years ago now and some fan bases are carrying on like it just happened.

The other one I don't get is Duran and his sudden infatuation with throwing his curve ball, which is a show pitch at best. You know who throws that shit? Guys who don't have a 102 mph fastball and a 99 mph splitter.

And all of this doesn't even include the fact that this organization was supposed to be a pitching factory. Seven years in they start the season with a pitching staff that had Griffen Jax as its only home grown pitcher. Now Bailey Ober appears to be a permanent part of the staff. Everyone else comes from other organizations. What's in the pipeline? Varland has been mediocre this year. Balazovic finally got a couple of starts and has been OK. Winder has pitched 6 innings in AAA and will probably go back on the IL with shoulder strain before he gets called up again. This failure in pitching development is why they traded Arraez to get another legit starting pitcher.

We're they booing because of Astros cheating or booing because of present performance?

On thr road, the Astros cheating. At home, the Pohlad pocket protectors are already whining that the $30 million a year player is in a slump in the second month of his contract. History says Correa will hit around .275 with 20+ HR and an .850 OPS while playing great defense at SS. These people need to quit worrying about the Pohlads bank accounts.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/12/2023 10:27:15 PM)

Another pathetic offensive effort. Popkins needs to go.
Jax has been terrible of late.
Pen is and will continue to be their albatross.if

BisonFan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/13/2023 6:00:08 AM)

The offense for the team continues to struggle and Buxton is in a slump. I know it might be risky, but maybe let Buxton play in center for a few games too help him get going. The starting pitchers can only do so much.

It's like Ed said, Jax has fallen in love with his slider. It's not a pitch you throw 60% of the time, yet he does anyway. Alcala has been inconsistent in his return. It may take some time to get it back.

Trying to make Buxton a one dimensional power hitting DH is not working. He needs to be phased back into the OF. If they want to save on his legs, put him in the LF rotation.

The bats woke up today. Kirilloff with two dingers and Gallo with a 3 run shot.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/13/2023 5:00:28 PM)

The HR parade continued with Polanco and Correa getting in on the act. Ryan smoked the Cubs with 6 so innings and 10 K.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/14/2023 2:04:55 PM)

Lineup turning point 2023, Cubs series.
