It's time to start prepping Buxton to play in the field again. As solid as he is defensively, Michael A Taylor is tremendous liability in the batting order. His current slash line is .212, .257, .379, .636. You just can't keep writing that level of production in the batting order every day. We were better off using Kepler in CF.

I was at the game yesterday. There were two balls hit to CF that Buxton would have had...cost the team all three of their runs (although the Julien fielding play allowed the CF play fo happen). With good defense the score would have been 0-0.

Buxton needs to play CF...there are several guys in the minors who might be here if they had a place to play. Wallner, Miranda, Larnach before the injury, Julien before the call up...but since Buxton has to DH that's one less spot open.

Twins had a decent pen entering the season...nothing has panned out other than Duran.

Time to go to Plan B. Acquire two arms for the pen and soon. Lopez, Jax, Pagan, Alcala (hurt), Thielbar (hurt), Stewart....horrible.

Won't probably matter though...Twins make playoffs and lose both...0-20 here we come!

Twins are sputtering into June.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/29/2023 5:21:00 PM)

This Jorge Lopez clown is a complete joke. He's hit like 2 of his last 3 hitters. And he damn near gave a blowout game away on Saturday. Cut your losses with this guy.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/29/2023 6:08:49 PM)

Jeffers
Lewis

Why Brock Stewart after he threw so many pitches the other day?

Bringing in Brock Stewart with runners on base is dumb as ass. There's no room for the runners he always puts on base.

See? I'm not stupid.

I need everyone to come to grips with this: Royce Lewis is not going to be a great player.

Why not?

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 7:39:34 AM)

How has Kevin Tapani looked lately? Or Juan Berenguer? Or whoever the hell he was compared to? Keith Atherton? Mark Guthrie maybe?

3-3 with a 4.11 ERA

In looking at those numbers, his stats are the closest to Tom Edens on the '91 team, who went 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA.

In his last seven games, he's 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 7:50:08 AM)

Looky here, Joey Gallo is batting .200 now. If we can get eight more players just like him, I can effectively fall asleep in the third inning.

Arraez has 70 hits, which is more than Gallo and Buxton combined. Twins second basemen have 40 hits with a few errors on defense.

Did 91 have a team with good pitching or not? I compared 33 year old Sony Gray to 36 year old Jack Morris if you remember.

Somehow Brad forgets that Baseball is Pitching, Hitting, and Defense (the reason they won in 87 and 91).

Actually Areaz is replaced by Kirilloff, Gallo, Polanco, and Julien

Great, he could lead the team in "times left on base".

And we'd have scored even less runs.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 11:57:13 AM)

Don't look now, but Salvador Perez is chiseling his HOF plaque this season.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 12:16:04 PM)

Kirilloff has been left off the All-Star ballot.

Yet Buxton and Gallo have both produced more runs in fewer plate appearances than Arraez. The mighty Miami offensive juggernaut, led by Arraez, is holding steady at 28th out of 30 in runs.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 8:36:27 PM)

Donovan Solano's two-run single is the Twins' first bases-loaded hit since May 13 and first bases-loaded RBIs since May 15. Snapped an 0-for-15 drought and lifted them to .129 (6 for 47, all singles) this year.

And then a ground rule double by Jeffers.

The sarcasm on social media after this. Well deserved.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 9:05:09 PM)

Wallner had 3 more hits including a 105mph dinger today. Miranda also had 3 hits and a homer

Wallner in the minors and NOT sending Kepler out on a rehab assignment was brilliant.[&o]

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 9:08:48 PM)

Yunior Severino, same age as Lewis (23) may be moving into the depth picture. Playing 3rd at Wichita, has a dozen homers and is around .300

Superstar #1 pick Brooks Lee is hitting .269

20 year old Kala'i Rosario is hitting around .300 at Cedar Rapids

Cavaco homered today, his 3rd, and struggling while moved to first. .180

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/31/2023 10:02:43 PM)

Kirilloff was on base 11 times in the 3 game series.

The guy who made that call should be flipping burgers at White Castle.

Again, those stats mean almost nothing. There's eight other guys on the field and nine for the other team. Both are just one component.

Who would you rather have at the plate with the game on the line in the 9th inning?

Gallo is a classic pile-on guy. Hits home runs when it doesn't matter. If you need a hit he is nowhere to be seen. They don't have a stat for that.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/1/2023 6:09:52 AM)

The whole point of having a bat in your hands is to score runs. If you don't get that, you shouldn't be pontificating about hitting.

And you made that up about Gallo.

You know who hasn't been left off the ballot? Luis Arraez.
