It's called a slump. All batters have them. Even Luus Arraez has them.

Gallo has a lot of them. In fact, more often than not he is in a slump.

Gallo is a career Mendoza line hitter. Nobody disputes that. He also draws enough walks (90 per year) to make his OBP a very respectable .325. On top of that he will hit 38 HR, drive in 83 and score 86 over the course of a full season. Whether you admit it or not, Joey Gallo is a productive major league hitter.

What I don't get is your insesant comparison of Gallo and Arraez. You get that Gallo was not signed to replace Arraez, right? Gallo is an outfielder. He is taking the AB that used to go to Trevor Larnach, Jake Cave and Kyle Garlick. Arraez was a utility infielder. His AB are being absorbed by Alex Kirilloff, Dovavan Solano and Kyle Farmer.

Joey Gallo equals UGLY baseball. I wouldn't spend a dime to watch that guy play the game.

More people pay to see homeruns than guys stranded on 1st base.

Unless you're in Minnesota, and Joe Mauer is playing.

Or, in general, Minnesota Twins fans. The average attendance right now is 21,144, which is down from 28,322 in 2019 and 39,798 in 2010 when Target Field opened. Only the pandemic season of 2021 had less fans in the past 22 years. Right now you have to go back to 2000 to find less people in the seats.

I'll just call it the "Gallo Effect".

Pablo Lopez
In one of the offseason’s most interesting moves, the Twins sent reigning batting champ Luis Arraez to the Marlins in exchange for Pablo Lopez. The logic was simple: the Twins have a surplus of productive hitters, but have struggled for years to complement their strong lineup with an equally productive pitching rotation. As a Marlin, Lopez established himself as a potential hidden ace—with the right tweaks, it was easy to imagine Lopez leveling up to become an elite hurler. Although his stats were always merely good rather than outstanding, he threw five distinct pitches, all of which boasted elite vertical movement.

So far, the Twins, like the Marlins, have not yet figured out how to unlock the best version of Lopez. He’s been solid, good even, just as he has been for years. His 4.11 ERA is inoffensive, albeit a skosh below his usual standard; his underlying metrics are superb, yet haven’t translated into superb actual results. What makes the Lopez especially frustrating, though, is that Arraez has absolutely raked in Florida, posting a MLB-best .376 batting average and .432 on base percentage.

This was prior to tonight's game.

3-3 with a 4.54 ERA

He's now David West (4-4, 4.54 in 1991)

On a positive note, he's back to tied for first in starts. I remember somebody in here thinking that was a great stat.

Are your attendance stats for 2019 and 2010 full year stats or through the end of May?

Something is definitely going on with Lopez. This is more than the Twins not being able to unlock the best version of him. He is regressing badly. Lopez is at his highest era since he was 23 and just establishing himself. I think he is one of the pitchers like Joe Ryan, who went to pitching camp to rework a couple of pitches. If so, he needs to go back to what he was doing before.

The Twins pitcher whisperer will turn things around just like the Twins hitter whisperer Popkins has done.

The Twins win an exciting one last night and it's still negative as ever around here.

Went to the game last night. It was an outstanding experience! One of my favorite wins of the last 10 years. The most fun win in that time period was probably the walk-off homer by Dozier when we went into the 9th inning down by 5 runs.

I'm can be both happy about the win and concerned with the direction Lopez is going.

The win was great. We beat a key in division rival and Lewis and Kirilloff continue to produce.

Another stupid Apple TV+ game tonight. Since Bally Sports was supposed to "carry all 162 games" this season, I'm not happy at all. Especially since the primary reason I still have cable is for Twins games. I should file a lawsuit.

Ober pulled after 6 shut out innings and only 78 pitches [sm=banghead.gif]

Some excellent pitching tonight.
Offense was able to score the 1 run we needed.
Love beating Cleveland!

1-0 wins are the sweetest!!!!!

I love this team!

Apologies to Rocco?

Pretty easy to "remember" when it doesn't work..............

Twins

As usual....

Most realistic bet for a Minnesota (non-Lynx team) to win a championship. I firmly believe they will bring us #3 before any of the others bring us one.

Absolutely not. Pulling a starting pitcher who is dominating and on a low pitch count is straight up stupid. Rocco put in Bugs Moran, who did his best to blow it, but got bailed out by Stewart. As a result, Duran pitched 1.2 to get the save and may not be available today.

Based on what? The Twins are working on the longest post season losing streak in baseball. At least the Vikings, Wild and Wolves have won first round games in recent history.

FYI - Twins on Fox

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/3/2023 6:40:23 PM)

Would you go with Varland or Lopez as Game 3 starter in a playoff game right now?

WTF! Gallo goes on the IL and they bring up Garlick instead of Wallner?

Not when it's an injury replacement. Perhaps you shoud follow your own advice.

Wrong. And you know it.

Popkins needs to go.
Another wasted pitching effort.
Kepler needs to go.
