The first says what the writer would offer Berrios, not what Berrios asked for.

The second one is someone claiming Doogie said something. Doogie didn't know the specifics of any negotiations.

Berrios also didn't have any significant fall off after the trade that would have reduced his value. The Twins never go more than 4 years for a pitcher. My guess is if Berrios's agent said $20M, it was on a 4 year deal. The most likely scenario is that the Twins offered on a 4 year deal what Berrios was looking for on a 7 year deal.

The agent said that after he was traded. Berrios wanted Wheeler money and we wanted Wheeler (a true #1).

Phil, if you honestly believe the Twins offered Berrios anywhere in the neighborhood of 7 year - $131M, I'd like to send you my address, so you can ship me a couple of pounds of whatever your smoking.

Watch out for the White Sox. They are surging and Giolito is on his game. Threw a no-hitter last night vs Yankees.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 10:49:41 AM)

He must be using the sticky stuff again.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 6:03:35 PM)

Miranda warming up at AAA; can't imagine why.
Getting some actual coaching????

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 6:30:48 PM)

Kepler is safe. Has one of 2 hits.
If Tampa doesn't sweep the Twins, I will be as shocked as when I heard Gambling wa going on at Rick's in Casablanca.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 6:42:38 PM)

They can't fire Popkins soon enough

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 7:25:35 PM)

Hooray! Another solid starting pitching performance wasted.

It’s sad when the other team gets 1 run and I lose interest in the game.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 8:06:10 PM)

3 hits
Fire Popkins

I don't know that it's Merry Popkins. You can't expect him to take a pile of chicken manuer and turn it into chicken salad. The lack of hitting is the other side of the same coin for pitching development. The denomination of that coin is that Falvey and Levine suck at their jobs. They went all in on launch angle exit velocity players who strike out a lot. Other than Lewis, they haven't drafted anyone in the first round who even makes much contact.

Year 1: Brent Rooker - strike out machine, mega bust.
Year 2: Trevor Larnach - can't hit a breaking pitch to save his soul, Pedro Cerrano
Year 3: Keoni Cavacao - #13 overall pick, strike out machine. Was a bust in the Gulf Coast League.
Matt Wallner: Promising hitting prospect, but still a bit strike out prone.
Year 4: Aaron Sabato - If the back to back picks of Cavacao and Sabato didn't convince Falvine that Sean Johnson doesn't know what he is doing, nothing will.
Year 5: Twins drafted a pitcher and traded him to get Sonny Gray.
Year 6: Brooks Lee - TBD

Basically, Edouard Julien looks like the only real prospect in AAA who makes a lot of contact. I repeat, Falvey and Levine suck at their jobs.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 8:51:39 PM)

3 hits
9 K's

I really miss Arraez. At least we were guaranteed some professional at bats.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 9:04:29 PM)

Sad thing is Arraez wouldn’t make much difference. He’d get stranded on first a lot in this lineup.

Were they this terrible 2 years ago? Popkins took over and made them worse. THey've been going downhill even more this year.

So awesome at third base....

He's now at first in Cedar Rapids, hitting under .200

bstinger -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/7/2023 11:39:02 PM)

If Pohlad had half a brain, he'd fire Failvine, Rockhead, and Poopkins and bring in some actual baseball people. I'd start with Dougie Baseball as manager. He isn't some mamby pamby POS manager like Rockhead is. I detest that SOB.

I think we have a bunch of shitty hitters to begin with and Popkins isn't the guy to get the most out of them. My underlying point is that Falvey and Levine suck. They assembled this batting order. They hired Popkins. They think Rocco walks on water. They need to go yesterday.

When we drafted him, I called him Matt Moses II. Turns out I owe Matt Moses an apology.

Keep getting a free pass

Bad trades

So so on signings

Horrible on coaching

6/7 years? a couple of division titles Wheeeee

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/8/2023 7:30:23 AM)

Division titles in baseball's weakest division.
No post season wins.
18 losses and counting

Yes on all and I will keep emphasizing...in 6 years the draft has produced almost nothing. Weeee...7 years at the helm and the system has produced Bailey Ober.

ronhextall -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/8/2023 8:24:30 AM)

Correa and Buxton contracts will kill the Twins for the next several years. Pohlad's self imposed salary cap means they are done.

Franchise is a complete mess, their drafting sucks and so does their decisions.

Meanwhile Luis Arraez is batting over .400 and likely has more hits than several everyday players for the Twins combined.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (6/8/2023 8:36:36 AM)

.403 with a .947 OPS

Arraez has struck out just 11 times in 235 plate appearances. Arraez has 87 hits while Polanco and Julien have combined for 43. He's more than doubled our current second basemen.

And oh yea, ZERO errors in 237 chances.

How is Kevin Tapani looking these days? Or Steve Bedrosian? Or whatever the hell we are calling him.
