Who trades Sonny Gray before the deadline?

I would but the Twins wont.

Who trades Sonny Gray before the deadline?

Absolutely not. This starting rotation is the only thing we have going for us. The Twins should be buyers at the deadline.

Get a bag of balls for Kepler

Get a bat weight for Popkins

Couple of trades I would make

Brent Rooker...We didn't need him!

We didn't need him, the Padres didn't need him, the Royals didn't need him. He finally figured it out at age 28.

Patience. I don't give up on HITTERS. I see talent. You do not. Sorry to break it to you.

That .209/.293/.380, 35% strikeout rate since the start of May would fit right in with the Twins.

Matt sure knows talent when he sees it.

What are you buying with? I'm hearing that the pipeline of talent is pretty depleted from the previously failed deadline deals.

I don't think this team is going anywhere and Gray is leaving at the end of the year. Maybe it's a chance to recoup some assets. I'm not saying I'm 100% for it, but it's worth exploring, especially if we don't play a lot better ball up to the deadline.

bstinger -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/13/2023 8:02:26 AM)

We are 9-1 against KC.

We are 36-45 against the rest of the league.

We only have 3 games remaining against KC.

Sonny has been hinting at retirement.....don't know if it is a contract ploy or not.

He has?

I just heard a clip from him last week where he said he was excited about being a free agent because he's never been one before, and he's 33 years old.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/13/2023 9:39:54 AM)

Retirement was in the context of after he signs one more contract.

INTERESTING: Although he still can shove at a high level, #MNTwins pitcher Sonny Gray wouldn't be surprised if he ends up retiring at the end of the season either... 😳🤔

Skor North posted it...

Also the interview that I read from MLB.COM

Feel like apologizing MDK and twinsfan?

David Levine -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/13/2023 11:36:33 AM)

I'd avoid the apologies. After reading the article, the 10 year retirement is just something that he's thought about from Day 1. Basically that he hoped to last 10 years because that's a huge milestone - and when your pension fully vests.

But nothing in the article points to him actually doing it. He says that he'd retire if he didn't have the fire or it got in the way of his family. And then he goes on about how much he still wants to play and win a ring and how much his kids love watching him play.

“The running joke with me was that I was always, ‘Oh, I'll play 10 years and I'm done. I'm out this mug,’” Gray said. “Everyone that knows me from back then, they give me [crap] now: ‘Oh, you still done?’”

I'm not apologizing. He is simply messing with the press and his remarks about his career are all over the place ranging from he might retire to he wants a 3 year contract in the amount of $20 million per year to its not about the money but his family.

I can guarantee one thing, he won't be playing for Rocco after 2023.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/13/2023 1:39:41 PM)

Funny all star game tidbit from StarTribune.

quote:

When Sonny Gray arrived at the mound Tuesday for his first appearance in an All-Star Game, Rangers catcher Jonah Heim asked him what pitches he threw, so they could figure out their signs.

"That's a different thing, you don't know the catchers and they don't know you," said Gray, who didn't pitch when he was selected to All-Star teams in 2015 and 2019. "He was using fingers too, so I said, two-seam, four-seam, curveball, slider, changeup and cutter."

Gray laughed as he remembered the look Heim gave him.

"Then I said, 'you know what, four-seam, curveball, slider, let's just stay with that today,' " Gray said.

Qualifying offer

Twins will attempt to make one...say they tried

and get another draft pick to waste.

I am impressed the Twins haven't figured out a way to lose during the break.

Zero

ZERO

change at the break despite putrid offensive numbers and guys that are broken and will not be any better in weeks to come.

Gives me ZERO reason to be optimistic. [8|]

They need to lose and lose big in the next couple of weeks. Fan and "media" unhappiness would be a good thing for those in the pretty Target Castle.

He's not a fit here. He'd take at bats away from our best hitter, Alex Kirilloff.

He can only play first and DH. Not flexible enough, position-wise.[&o]

Bring him in and rotate him between 1B & DH. Kirilloff 1B & RF. Buxton DH & OF. Kepler and Taylor move to the bench.
