Thank God for Joey Gallo. Where would we be without him?

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/15/2023 7:37:13 AM)

Joey Gallo with a game winning HR in the 9th. The bullpen really came through after Kenta Maeda struggled mightily. The dynamic duo of Pagan and Moran even combined for 3 shutout innings.

True.

But seriously, second highest OPS on the team among qualified batters, behind only Solano.

This is where the Twins go with this.

the Just THINK

Just think what Gallo could do with more contact

and most of the time it's just disappointment, unfortunately.

Sweens, 3 innings out of those 2 is a gift. Rocco's left with no choice right now, so Balazovic is going to get more opportunities.

All-Star

Woof

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/15/2023 9:26:42 PM)

Offense bailed 'em out

Thanks Oakland

Gallo has been really good. I don't understand the complaints about him.

He's hitting .187. Ain't nothing good about that. Every now and then he runs into one. Thank you Oakland, Kansas City and Detroit. He's got five homers against them. He's batting about .170 against the rest of the league.

In short, he's a terrible hitter. These guys can make up all the nonsense they want. Keep telling themselves he's a valuable piece. He'll disappoint you about 80% of the time. If Gallo's the second or third best hitter you've got, you have serious offensive problems.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/16/2023 8:37:31 AM)

Luis Arraez went 4-for-5 last night. Anybody in here want to bet Joey Gallo won't have four hits in the next week?

Arraez has 13 more RBI than Gallo, 11 more runs-scored and a higher slugging %.

When your team is losing guys like Arraez and adding guys like Gallo, it should be of no surprise that the offense isn't worth a damned.

The Twins have the third best ERA in baseball. Yet, they are a .500 team. The two teams in front of them are Atlanta and Tampa, who are a combined 54 games above .500.

Agreed. if Gallo’s your second or third best hitter wouldn’t the 4th through 13th best hitters be more of a problem?

His on base % is about the same as the entire team. He leads the team in slugging % and is second in OPS.

I have no problem with that.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/16/2023 9:17:55 AM)

In the lead off position Correa is 16 for 44. .363.

Coincidence? Whatever it is, leave him there.

The 4th through 13th hitters don't make Gallo a good hitter. That's the other way of looking at it.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/16/2023 6:00:07 PM)

Rare road sweep at Oakland.
The bullpen is looking very tired though.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/16/2023 6:02:43 PM)

Pagan gets 4 outs and Duran saves a third straight day. Kirilloff big day.
Buxton hitting under .150 vs lefties for the season, now under .200 for the year. .160 each of the last 2 months
Mercy IL him. He is not helping

at all

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/16/2023 6:02:52 PM)

And Texas comes from behind to complete a sweep against Cleveland. Nice.

Looks terrible. So sad.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/17/2023 6:51:51 AM)

Well that was one of the ugliest series sweeps I've ever seen. All of our starters had trouble with the mighty A's lineup.

Agreed on Buxton. His season is in the toilet. They need to put him back in the field. He isn't cut out to DH.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/17/2023 7:40:48 AM)

Perhaps Rocco should stop batting Buxton #3 and Kirilloff #9. He should also stop pinch hitting for Kirilloff.

Could not agree more on Buxton.

We aren't paying this guy to flail away helplessly as the DH.

We need to get him fully healthy (if that's even possible) and get him ready to play CF every game in 2024.

We need to get him away from Poppykins....Enough of this try to hit everything from here to Canada.

If he's not healthy enough to throw a baseball, or play in CF and he's not contributing in a positive way at the plate other than the occasional ding dong, he shouldn't be playing at all. Right now he's basically Sano. and that is not good,

Time for a rest. and don't let him back until he can play CF everyday.

bstinger -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/17/2023 2:06:51 PM)

The days of Buxton being fully healthy seem to be in the rear view mirror. His knee issues are reportedly chronic.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/17/2023 11:41:28 PM)

Down to their last strike and Kepler gets them to 7-6 with a 3 run HR.

…and then Jeffers strikes out without swinging the bat once. Oof.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (7/18/2023 6:47:36 AM)

Guardians: thank God for Buxton.

What a mess.
