Main reason you trade for Big Leaguers with prospects:

Prospects traded from 2013-22 for Big Leaguers: 573

Prospects that became impact players: 17
3%

Prospects that became contributors or impact players: 62
10.8%

29% never play in the Big Leagues.

This is flawed logic.

Because teams don't trade their best prospects. So the prospects that are traded are not as likely to have an impact.

It's amazing how suckered people can be on some of this stuff. All it takes is 10 seconds to THINK ABOUT IT!

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/1/2023 10:13:31 PM)

Gallo has two hits in his past 25 at-bats, with 17 strikeouts. He is making Miguel Sano look like Tony Gwynn.

Don't even have enough sense to let go of Gallo. Like he's getting better??
Yeah standing pat with little to give up probably is the best thing. Still doesn't mean i have to like it. [8|]

I don't like it either Ed. Repeated bad drafts and poor player development left the Twins to where they had to part with Arraez to address starting pitching. They finally have the rotation of a legitimate contender, except for a lineup so poorly constructed that there just were just too many moves to make at the deadline to fx it.

Gallo does't get anywhere the bulk of my ire though. He was never going to be the key to the offense. Through June he was pretty well producing between strikeouts in line with career numbers. The guy who deserves to be ripped and seems to be getting a pass is Correa. This is the slash line he is producing for $32M: .226, .301, .394, .694. That's a bench player. That's Nick f***ing Punto! Byrun Buxton...the most talented player on the planet if only he could stay healthy....isn't much better. He strikes out almost as much as Gallo with about the same production.

Those two were supposed to be the heart and soul of the lineup. If they produced at close career levels, the Twins win more games are in position to make moves at the deadline. Throw in Christian Vazquez, signed to be our #1 catcher and his OPS in the .500's as a huge problem. At this point Gallo should be moved to make way for Wallner and Larnach, but he isn't even close to the biggest problem in this lineup.

Lots of top prospects were moved, so let's rank 'em
In total, 40 prospects were moved off or on Top 30 lists during this Trade Deadline season. Which ones could have the biggest impact on their new teams?

Only one thing I have to say to Matt today; he was invaded by a TR alien before his last post.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/2/2023 5:29:51 PM)

Buxton scratched for hamstring tightness.

Julien pregame ground balls at first base

The Polanco experiment at third base will be ending asap. I think/hope.

Polanco made the standout play of the game when he cut off the Wallner throw and took the out at 3B.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/2/2023 6:54:48 PM)

Joe Ryan has turned into a disaster. I'd send him down. Sucks that we lost Keuchel.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/2/2023 7:19:00 PM)

Homerun Derby for the Cardinals.
What a mess!!!

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/2/2023 7:36:49 PM)

Ryan is slipping. Thank God for Lopez, our best pitcher.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/2/2023 8:36:31 PM)

Kirilloff is getting Wally Pipped by Wallner and Larnach.

What's the over/under on Joey Gallo strikeouts today?

Buxton is a career .239 hitter. He's had one great (half) season at the plate in 2021. If he can no longer play the outfield, he has almost no value whatsoever. Buxton has been in the league since 2015 and only once played more than 92 games.

At $15-million this season..............are you kidding me?

Buxton is fools gold for sure. Way more hype than production. In an era of "slide rulers and geeks" running the show I have to assume ownership was leaning on management to sign him.

Pohalds are the problem, the rest of the organization just mumbles "yes Sir!!" and cashes the check.

Not as high as the amount of times you'll rant about Gallo's strikeouts today.

Who exactly is he targeting here? Did someone say something complimentary about Gallo in April now we must all suffer the rest of the season bc of it?

No. He's mad we traded Arraez and since the guy we got in trade Pablo is pitching well that it's hard to criticize he shifted to Gallo who everyone here already agrees sucks.

Larnach?

Kiriloff plays primarily 1B, Wallner and Larnach are OFs and Larnach is at AAA.

So I don't get how he's being Wally Pipp'd at all.

Id say Polanco may get Wally Pipp'd by Julien.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/3/2023 3:25:05 PM)

I'm hearing rumors that Dallas Kuechel is being added to the roster. Joe Ryan going on the IL.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (8/3/2023 4:46:53 PM)

Joe Ryan to IL and Dallas Keuchel contract selected by the Twins.
