How slow do you have to be to not get an inside the park grand slam on that, Solano?

Solano hits a bases clearing triple to salt the game away and you're bitching. You faux fans make me sick.

You call that bitching?

It was an observation.

As soon as the guy misplayed it and I saw it slowly rolling to the wall, I jumped up yelling "that's gonna be an inside-the-park grand slam!"

I saw an error, not a triple

If he "misplayed it," would it not be an error instead of a triple?

However, after thinking about it, if he had to make the play he made to get an out, save run(s), even though in the process it cost them runs, would it be an error?

I still see an error.

You're wrong.

Maybe.

I'm not surprised they didn't give it an error. I'm aware, or believe, that in today's game they are much more lenient than they used to be in the past.

To me it's a single, E7 for runners advancing due to unsuccessfully fielding a short hop and keeping runners from advancing. However, I saw the play one time live and it followed the ball. An argument could be made that if he picks that clean he has a decent shot at the runner from 2nd, keeping it to one score and possibly an out. That would be similar to diving for a ball and not coming up with it. But I don't know what was going on with that runner.

The way they call errors interest me and I'm usually up for a debate about it. But not a fight.

Here's what I found on my first time ever looking up, "What's a fielding error in the MLB?":

A fielder is given an error if, in the judgment of the official scorer, he fails to convert an out on a play that an average fielder should have made. Fielders can also be given errors if they make a poor play that allows one or more runners to advance on the bases. A batter does not necessarily need to reach base for a fielder to be given an error. If he drops a foul ball that extends an at-bat, that fielder can also be assessed an error.

Kyle Gibson has a good chance of pitching meaningful games in the playoffs and possibly the World Series. That is shocking to me. I thought he would have been out of baseball about 3 years ago. Good for him, but I just did not see it.

Guardians lost to the Angels last night.

They look pretty foolish for picking up all those Angles castoffs.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/8/2023 9:51:42 PM)

Keuchel survived 5 innings. Stupid baserunning with terrible throws put MN up and Lewis/Kepler finished it off.

That throw from left field was D league slow pitch softball stuff.

Stevenson made 2 bad decisions but it paid off.

They (plural) made me laugh. Of course it wouldn't of been so ha ha funny if he gets picked at either spot.

Being as I am a NY resident I get to watch the FSNY broadcasts of these games. I missed yesterday's game but I am interested to hear the comments from Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling on some Twins players. I am heading across the street to watch the game with my buddy who is a huge Mets fan. He invited me over for some Moosehead, Omaha Steaks and some baseball. I will be wearing my ten year old Twins cap that I got when I met up with vanquished posters Mark (CPAMAN) and Bruce (Winger). My friend across the street doesn't miss an inning of the Mets and I am sure he will tell me about anything their broadcast team may have said about the Twins last night. I always find it interesting what out of market teams say about the Twins. We don't often get an honest take from our broadcast crew, in my opinion

Anyone believe Gallo is actually hurt?

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/9/2023 2:56:17 PM)

Freekin' Jeffers doesn't even touch the ball on a squeeze in the B6

History repeating itself(Sano). Twins would rather IL a guy than DFA him, out of some noble reason.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/9/2023 10:16:12 PM)

Angels 6-2. Bigger lead, smaller magic number.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/10/2023 9:46:11 AM)

The race is over. I'm calling it. 7.5 game lead with 20 games left, 19 for Cleveland.

Yes I know teams do go on 8 game winning streaks and losing streaks, but some reality: Let's say the Twins go in the tank go 5-15 the rest of the way. Total meltdown. The Guardians would still have to go 12-7 to catch the Twins. They won't.

MDK -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/10/2023 5:56:39 PM)

Fantastic pitching effort by Pablo Cruise Lopez wasted by a terrible offense that was offensive

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/11/2023 7:11:53 AM)

Lopez now has a 3.49 era, is 6th in innings pitched and 3rd in strikeouts. One of the few good moves Falvine made.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/11/2023 7:20:34 AM)

Haven't seen Brad H in a while in this thread. Maybe because Arreaz had to rest his achy knee for a game and his average is dropping?

Not to mention the guy he likes to compare him to now, Gallo, is on the IL.

Arraez had a terrible month of August. He seems to have bounced back in September.

Lopez has been great for the Twins

Arraez has been great for Miami

Both teams got what they needed. Both teams had positional depth to make up for what they gave up. Trade worked out for both teams.

Totally agree.

I never complained about that trade myself. I know you have to give something up to get something and we got a very ggod something and had others that could fill the void for what we lost.

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/11/2023 2:00:40 PM)

Im not upset about it. Sure is nice to have a more than decent starter for sure.
But I'm also old fashion and it's always fun to have a Twin that wins the batting title - and we've certainly had a few of 'em

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (9/11/2023 7:43:30 PM)

How in the world does a MLB player get doubled off 2nd like Jeffers just did is beyond me - good gawd!

Gleeman:

Royce Lewis has 14 homers through 62 career games, the second-most in #MNTwins  history.

4 — grand slams
3 — three-runs
2 — two-runs
5 — solos

Lewis also has the most RBIs (49) and second-most total bases (124) in Twins history through 62 career games.

I know analytics guys like to downplay the importance of RBI. And to a certain extent they're right. They don't tell the whole story. But when a guy just has a knack for clearing the bases there is something to it.

Analytics guys think WAR is a legitimate way to rank.players. i don't get their disdain for a guy swinging a bat and runs scoring. They seem more impressed by a guy drawing a walk with a runner on 3rd than they are with driving him in. I remember debating Paul Koopman about Torii Hunter's worth as a hitter. I pointed out Torii was driving in 90+ runs. He said that was just a by product of Hunter hitting 5th. I said by that logic Nick Punto could drive in 90 runs if they batted him 5th.

Amazing he is doing it after moving to 3b, missing the first 60 days, and coming off of his 2nd ACL....took me a few seconds to remember Miranda's name---there is a guy that has had a lost season.
