Waiting for the line-up ....

Roster should have been announced at 10:00. Anything out there yet?

I freaked out for a second. Scanning both the Infielders and Outfielders over and over again. Willi Castro didn't make the roster???? Then I finally saw him under Utility. Whew!

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 10:40:20 AM)

Wonder if the plan was to have Funderburk over Keuchel all along?

I could see that happening - I just happened to be working R to L

Are you dyslexic? I have some relatives that are dyslexic - not a fun condition to deal with.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 11:17:25 AM)

Todays Lineup:

Where's Castro?

I guess the plan is to use him as a pinch-runner at some point, then put him at 3rd base and move Polanco to 2B to shore up the defense late in the game. Obviously the downside to this is Julien won't be hitting after about the 5th or 6th inning.

Julien's defense has improved....they won't pull him until the last inning.

Kuechel was put on the IL second to last day of the season. My guess is that was never the plan.

If Funderburk gets into a game, it will not be a good sign for the Twins.

How does a guy that's been playing defense his entire life suddenly improve in the matter of weeks? I don't buy it. We got a lucky bounce to the catcher on WP the other day, and Vazquez threw a virtually perfect bullet to 2B....predictably, Julien failed to glove it.

Nope. I have worked with a few bright people with dyslexia - I agree with your assessment

Simple, keep working on it. You don't have to buy it; Julien has improved as the season has gone on. Still more work to do---if I remember correctly he is a rookie.

I never remember you being this hard on a certain outfielder that currently plays for the Rangers.....[;)]

Simply remember this---if Julien wasn't called up to play 2b you wouldn't be watching a playoff game today; he has been that valuable. Basically a 1 for 1 replacement for Arreaz as a leadoff batter that has had 64 walks and has power.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 3:27:42 PM)

I’d like to see Castro in there too. He’s been a pleasant surprise.

But I ain’t complaining. I feel more confident in this team’s playoff chances than any team since 2002. And maybe even more than them.

Don’t care about records. In years past I entered playoffs with a feeling of dread. This year seems different.

Short series. Anything can happen. But my chance of Twins breaking the losing streak. 95%. Chance of advancing, 80%.

The reason I think we have a shot is that Julien, Polanco, Lewis, and Wallner are patient and will draw walks. Gausmann doesn't want to throw his split finger over the plate.

I see this as the best team they have put together since 91-92.....92 may have been a better squad than 91.

I still like that 2002 team with Koskie, Jacque Jones, Torii, and company. But this team has better pitching.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:00:49 PM)

Matt what do you think of your favorite 2b Julien getting on base for Lewis? Boom.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:13:08 PM)

Diving grab by Taylor. Genius move to start him instead of Castro.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:18:28 PM)

My reason #1 for no Joe Mauer HOF.

Royce Lewis has more HR and RBI than Joe Mauer in the playoffs after 1 at bat.

(Joe had 40 at bats and 10 playoff games---0HR and 1RBI)

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:21:39 PM)

Julien, Kirilloff, and Wallner all walks first time thru the order.....keep it going. They are true pirahnas with power. Gausmann likes to get them to swing at pitches outside the zone.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:36:40 PM)

I’m convinced Lewis will hit a HR in every post season AB. I’ll die on this hill.

David Levine -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:36:41 PM)

Lewis might not be human...

Move over G-Man! Royce Lewis does it again, a solo homer in the 3rd to put
@Twins
up 3-0 in game one vs. Toronto. #twinsradio call here. Royce joins Gary Gaetti as the only guys to homer in their first two postseason at-bats as a Twin. Lewis is incredble!

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (10/3/2023 4:58:00 PM)

More worried about Polanco at 3B than Julien at 2B.
