ORIGINAL: TJSweens Im.going to take a.brief moment to bitch. Watching these 4 playoff games has convinced me that the electronic strike zone can't get here fast enough. Got that out of my system, now back to enjoying the playoffs ๐ I tend to agree. Umpiring has been awful and terribly inconsistent batter to batter. At least with the electronic system the strike zone would be consistent. Yes sir. The same pitch will be called the same in the 1st inning and 9th inning, no matter who throws it or who is in the box. Catchers can stop the annoying, pull every pitch back over the plate game. I attended the last Saints game of the year. I wasn't aware that AAA was testing a ball and strike challenge system. Each team starts the game with 3 challenges. If your challenge is correct, you retain the challenge. If not you lose it. I thought it worked fine. The key is, it was fast. There was no looking into a little box, no putting on headsets and waiting for a replay office to rule. None of that crap. They challenge immediately after the pitch, the scoreboard displays a computerized animation of the pitch and the strike zone, and the whole stadium finds out the result at the same time. It's all over in less than 10 seconds, and they play on. So expect it soon in the major leagues. Remember the pitch clock started in AAA last year. They are the beta testers for the majors.
